It's so great to see the Jurassic Park franchise doing so well again. I personally had a blast with the film, so this puts a huge smile on my face.

....Ummmm yeahhh, we're never gonna see feathers on any JP sequels, ever.

Well, don't be so certain.

A meaningless feat considering inflation and WW audiences expansion. Boxoffice numbers will remain contextual until somebody decides to report tickets sold rather than dollar grosses.

Tell that to all the big films that don't hit these numbers so fast. I'm not denying inflation, nor am I asserting the money means quality (though I did greatly enjoy it), but meaningless? :lol

if they do ANYTHING with that whole "using dinosaurs in the military" I refuse to see the movie on principal unless it gets rave reviews. That whole aspect of the story was the worst part about the overall pretty dumb script.

Yeah, I was glad dude that was pushing that got eaten. I definitely don't want that storyline pushed. Though now that its this big, its pretty much inevitable.

"Raptors vs Terrorists!"

Wouldn't this be pretty easy to figure out if you just calculated the average ticket price for every year?

But I want my military squad Raptor pack wielding guns and lasers and going "OORAH" :(

Everyone keeps saying this is a good indicator for Star Wars. But dinosaurs have a more universal(heh) appeal than space cops. So the new Star Wars might do a little better than episode three, but that's about it.

Doesn't prove much.

Why? Like many people I went to the cinema (and even made my girlfriend go with me). We paid for the tickets, supported JW with our money and yet we both think the movie sucked. In a way I'm a part of the problem, because I've went to see it only because Jurassic Park was the movie of my childhood.

What I want to say is that those two topics are not mutually exclusive. A movie can gross tons of money and suck at the same time.

Yup. This ain't the damn prequels - you're going to be seeing the Big 3 and Co. in their marquee roles so that makes up for the winter release

In terms of box office gross, I think Star Wars will surprise a good number of people on this forum, but maybe not in the way they were expecting.

SW will break the box offices.

Cinema is dead to me. I hated this as much as the big bang theory OR transformers. Dumb characters, dumb humor, dumb plot and even worse acting.

And I loved jp :-(

The film was slightly entertaining, but good? Mad Max: Fury Road was good - nay, it was amazing - and it just about recouped its budget. Sure, Jurassic Park has a much wider appeal as a franchise, but I am still saddened by this.

Mad Max was also rated R, which people often tend to forget. R-rated films simply don't pull numbers like these. (As much as I loved Max Max.)

I'm not really bitter or anything, I just have to say "HOW". This is so weird, since I know nobody who wants to see this.

This is my thought for every comic book movie that comes out. I don't know anyone who likes those. I don't get the appeal I'm the slightest.

Jurassic Park was an incredibly beloved movie and unlike the other sequels, the consensus (both critical and regular audience) is that this one is very good. It also generates a lot of nostalgic feelings because the last good one came out 22 years ago, and most people under 40 years old were likely passionate about the original and blown away by it when they were kids.

Nothing to do with quality when marketing and franchise recognition are this high

That's incorrect. A total this high and this fast indicates multiple repeat viewings, which doesn't happen if someone didn't like the movie. I wouldn't put it on my Best Films list but it's a great time at the movies, and it's a great time at a Jurassic Park movie, which hasn't happened in 22 years.

FTFY. There continues to be a large, untapped market of people who want to see summer blockbuster movies, but couldn't care less about comic book super heroes.

Such nonsense. The moviegoing public just isn't that large. There is a vast overlap between the people going to see JW and Mad Max and the people who see Marvel movies. This indicates nothing of the sort.

Not sure how this correlates with topic, but ok.

If the public truly wanted fewer Marvel produced films they should stop watching the movies each year, but that clearly is not the case.

Sitting in the theater with my 2 kids right now waiting for it to begin. Tack on another 25 bucks.

You can't cherry pick inflation and audience expansion while ignoring all other factors and then argue context.

Inflation is the absolute dumbest argument to come up in every box office thread.

So, how profitable is this film now? I imagine any money being made now is going straight to the bank?

Hahahahahaha

Universal will claim they lost money on this. They'll lose so much money they are barely keeping the studio afloat.
