Yeah, someone (BobbyRoberts? CFK?) mentioned this in another thread and it seems pretty unlikely SW will break this, just because attendance, as a whole, is down vs the summer.
Though if any movie were to buck that trend, Star Wars would be the one.

....Ummmm yeahhh, we're never gonna see feathers on any JP sequels, ever.
A meaningless feat considering inflation and WW audiences expansion. Boxoffice numbers will remain contextual until somebody decides to report tickets sold rather than dollar grosses.
if they do ANYTHING with that whole "using dinosaurs in the military" I refuse to see the movie on principal unless it gets rave reviews. That whole aspect of the story was the worst part about the overall pretty dumb script.
Will Star Wars hit $1 billion?
Good. Great film. Me and everyone I know enjoyed it greatly.

But I want my military squad Raptor pack wielding guns and lasers and going "OORAH"if they do ANYTHING with that whole "using dinosaurs in the military" I refuse to see the movie on principal unless it gets rave reviews. Will people ever stop doubting that it will?

Doesn't prove much.
Why? Like many people I went to the cinema (and even made my girlfriend go with me). We paid for the tickets, supported JW with our money and yet we both think the movie sucked. In a way I'm a part of the problem, because I've went to see it only because Jurassic Park was the movie of my childhood.
What I want to say is that those two topics are not mutually exclusive. A movie can gross tons of money and suck at the same time.
Hollywood would have to collapse for that not to happen. Will Star Wars hit $1 billion?
Nervous Mr. Cameron?
Imagine how much it could have made if it were actually a good movie.
Yup. This ain't the damn prequels - you're going to be seeing the Big 3 and Co. in their marquee roles so that makes up for the winter release
Everyone keeps saying this is a good indicator for Star Wars. But dinosaurs have a more universal(heh) appeal than space cops. So the new Star Wars might do a little better than episode three, but that's about it.
He's the anti-Taylor Kitsch
Mad Max was also rated R, which people often tend to forget. R-rated films simply don't pull numbers like these. (As much as I loved Max Max.)LĂ© Blade Runner;169432598 said:The film was slightly entertaining, but good? Mad Max: Fury Road was good - nay, it was amazing - and it just about recouped its budget. Sure, Jurassic Park has a much wider appeal as a franchise, but I am still saddened by this.
I'm not really bitter or anything, I just have to say "HOW". This is so weird, since I know nobody who wants to see this.
Maybe Hollywood should take that as a clue the public wants fewer super hero films.
Preferably without Marvel.
I'd like to see it adjusted to inflation.
Nothing to do with quality when marketing and franchise recognition are this high
FTFY. There continues to be a large, untapped market of people who want to see summer blockbuster movies, but couldn't care less about comic book super heroes.
So, how profitable is this film now? I imagine any money being made now is going straight to the bank?

You can't cherry pick inflation and audience expansion while ignoring all other factors and then argue context.A meaningless feat considering inflation and WW audiences expansion. Boxoffice numbers will remain contextual until somebody decides to report tickets sold rather than dollar grosses.
