Jurassic World Official Trailer

I will say I loved Pratt's delivery of the "Evacuate the island" line. His tone on the word 'island' was different than you would expect to hear for that kind of line.

you have proof of this dude?

the most they revealed were arms and legs
Yeah, between Lego figures and more recent art, we know what it looks like. Someone posted a link to a drawing of it a few pages back

looked terrible. not a Pratt fan so hopefully this torpedo's his career.
Never understand this kind of reaction either. "I don't like an actor, hope his career is ruined. What? Other people might like that actor or his movies?"

looks slow as hell. like, my cousin on his scooter woulda passed Pratt and his motorcycle

and the kids again, fuck that

Found a interview that was apparently written in May of this year, and talks openly about what everyone is talking about from this trailer lol. I thought a lot of this was new info, but apparently not. A lot of these were brand new concepts to me, and to a ton of people in the thread too by the looks of it.

Some interesting excerpts from the director:

Two things came to the surface.

One was that money has been the gasoline in the engine of our biggest mistakes. If there are billions to be made, no one can resist them, even if they know things could end horribly.

The other was that our relationship with technology has become so woven into our daily lives, we’ve become numb to the scientific miracles around us. We take so much for granted.

Those two ideas felt like they could work together. What if, despite previous disasters, they built a new biological preserve where you could see dinosaurs walk the earth…and what if people were already kind of over it? We imagined a teenager texting his girlfriend with his back to a T-Rex behind protective glass. For us, that image captured the way much of the audience feels about the movies themselves.

Chris Pratt’s character is doing behavioral research on the raptors. They aren’t trained, they can’t do tricks. He’s just trying to figure out the limits of the relationship between these highly intelligent creatures and human beings. If people don’t think there’s potential in those ideas, maybe they won’t like this movie. But I ask them to give it a chance.

We were hoping audiences could discover this on their own, but yes, there will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists. The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.

Honestly, the biggest misconception on this movie is that there’s some massive conference room at the studio where all these cynical story decisions are made. There is no committee. Universal has given us the resources to tell the story we want to tell, on the scale we want to tell it. Will this one be different from the other movies? You bet it will. And I’m not going to pass the buck if it doesn’t work. This one’s on me.

This sort of makes me feel better. Sounds like he's speaking candidly and not trying to aggrandize his ideas and "sell" them to us.

I don't think the plan was ever to slap a pink tutu on a t-rex and make it ride a unicycle. The shamu-esque Mosasaurus and trained Raptors comes off as a tacky circus side show. Again it could be an interesting dynamic to explore going against Hammond's wishes.

It's also a park that is not run by Hammond's company. I believe inGEN was bought out by Masrani Corp.

hmm.. the leaked image im looking at right now looks pretty much like an allosaurus and i find that surprising because it doesn't look like anything special

The Mosasaurus feeding is no different than this.

I guess not, it's just an extreme version of the same goal. Still the goat is just feeding time to coax out the T-rex while the shark is there for the spectacle of the splash . It's not like they are recreating ancient flying great whites in their natural habitat.

And I'm fairly certain the trained Raptors aren't an attraction.
We'll see but I'll bet there is a scene of some Raptor show where they preform like a bunch of dolphins or chimps. Trainers rewarding them with food for preforming some laughable task that will make a perfect gif.

Chris Pratt must be the worst leading man I have ever seen. He actually has negative charisma. Every line he said in that trailer was delivered like he was reading off a script. How is this guy even given a single job?

I remember first seeing Pratt in Moneyball and The Five Year Engagement and thinking he most definitely had a stiff, awkward delivery. His improv/jokes in TFYE came off very amateur. I was pleasantly surprised with his performance in Zero Dark Thirty tho and his part in Guardians really turned me around on him.

Oh man, even all these years later, that T Rex jeep attack is still so damn good.

That scene is the definition of movie magic to me. I remember seeing it as a little kid, not having any knowledge of what was possible with computer generated effects at the time, and wondering how the hell they even pulled that off. I hadn't seen something fake look that real before and it blew my mind.

On topic, kind of feeling just so-so about the trailer. I don't know what I was expecting but a slasher film with a killer dinosaur set in Jurassic Park seems kind of lame. Still looking forward to seeing it eventually, if maybe with just a bit less hype.

So, the trailer decides to drop early while I'm on a film set? Cruel and unusual.

I'm not sure why I bothered reading this whole thread- not liking it is fine, but some of the complaints presented as fact baffle me ('bad writing'). The trailer certainly relies too heavily on one liners, but those are nothing new to Jurassic Park ('hold on to your butts', 'they should all be destroyed', etc). I do think the trailer should have used different VO's for better dramatic effect, but nothing I heard seemed bad at all.

Yeah, the CG, it's a bit too much in this trailer. But did you see that park set? It's only a small portion of a huge practical set, and they built plenty more locations. As well as filmed on location for a lot of scenes. The scene that bothers me is the dinosaurs at the riverside.. why have a nearly completely CG environment? That feels off. Which is a shame, because it's a beautiful shot.

Anyways, I liked the trailer. Fucking Jurassic Park 4. Hyped as fuck. I agree it was cut a little awkwardly, and fizzled out. But nothing made me go 'oh man this is gonna be bad'. Do you guys even remember Jurassic Park 3?

The premise of this film is amazing, and it seems like we're going to get a fucking crazy Dinosaur movie. Some of the shots looked really promising, I really dug Bryce with the flair, and Chris saying 'Evacuate the park..'. Something about those felt grim. Same goes for Pratt and Bryce checking out the busted Gyrosphere.

However, where the hell were BD Wong, Vincent D'Onofrio, Irrfan Khan and Omar Sy in this trailer? Should have teased more relied less heavily on swooping CG centric shots.

Thanks!

This is gonna be epic.

So, this is the Diabolus rex, right?
NYCzyEm.gif

Yeah, that's the Indominus Rex. Also, that CG looks particularly fantastic.

Nice thing to say. There are actors who I don't particularly care for either, but I don't go around hoping that their careers are ruined. What if that was you? Would you want someone hoping that your career derailed?

Interesting note, the lego figure D-Rex has small spikes along the spine.

If you pay attention to the shadow cast on the kid's face when he's hiding at the end, you can see spikes there as well (It's easier to see them in motion than the screen cap I included).

Im not a parent but I can't imagine sending my kids to dinosaur theme park without an adult going along with them. Most parents wouldn't even let their kids to go Disneyland alone.

Domesticated raptors is lame.

Pretty much every line from Pratt was cringe.

Looks like it will be JP3 level.

Wow, I was so disappointed for the first half of this trailer. So many awkwardly cut and straight up wack CGI shots. That great white shark bit should have been amazing and instead it looked like something out of Jackson's King Kong.

Then Pratt, and the D.Rex feet chasing him, and that raptor reveal. Holy shit, I giggled, literally giggled. It just felt so good and I thought it would be so dumb (it still sort of is).

My expectations are still tempered, it seems like a lot of the things that people enjoy the original for, like the natural beauty of the dinosaurs and setting are overwrought and too fake looking here but the setpieces and the action are looking good. Already looks like it should shit on JP3. Give me some raptor pack on D.Rex action with the finale being the T.Rex going in on the D.Rex.

I pray to God tho that they hide the D.Rex until the actual release of the movie and keep the T.Rex to the minimum as well. Come on Universal, give us something to look forward to in the movie theater!

Have you read The Lost World Jurassic Park?
It's the abilities of the Carnotaurus

I still really hope they include the googly eyed carnos from the TLW light gun game in a future sequel. Granted their coolest ability has been swiped now but they are still weird looking carnivores that can be included as some new additions.

Its meant to be a goofy mother teasing the shit out of her kid who is about to go see Dinosaurs. Not Oscar material
It doesn't make any sense as a joke. I have a goofy mother who used to say silly things and it still doesn't work as a joke. It feels unnatural because it's obvious trailer fodder.

But I'm sure the dialogue about how we are creating the amazing uberdino because science and progress and genetics will redeem the movie.

They spliced together a T-Re and Raptor didnt they? The CGI looks as good as it did 22 years ago...which isn't saying much in the year 2014...Maybe it's just me but CGI has really just developed into a crutch that when executed poorly has disastrous results. Is it really too much to ask for some good set pieces and building things the old fashioned way?

A lot of movies from before the rise of CG has aged really well. While more recent ones from as late as 2008 look old and out dated

Jesus this looks terrible.

edit: except for Chris Pratt, whose line delivery surprisingly sounds a lot unlike the usual Chris Pratt here.

I actually really like that last scene of the trailer with the raptors running beside the bike. Gives me TLW novel vibes.

Still puzzles me why the sequel strayed so far from the book.

Wow yeah those excerpts have completely changed my mind. I'm now warily excited.

Considering there was a dinosaur rampaging through San Diego, it makes sense in the movie's world

still hoping there's a twist to that scene and they turn around half-way give each other a look of acknowledgement and jump chris pratt.

would be hilarious.

It:
-
can camouflage itself
-
is as intelligent as a raptor
-
is poisonous

The first two bullet points sound interesting and can potentially lead to some Jurassic Park 1 worthy exciting action sequences....the last one is confusing as hell. Why would a genetic engineer do that, even one heavily influenced by corporate?...

This turned me off.....a lot....HEY GUYS REMEMBER THOSE SUPER SCARY RAPTORS? NOW THEY'RE BLOODHOUNDS...... grumble
Honestly, this is the least of the problems with the trailer. The JP raptors are animals, and it's nice to see them treated as animals instead of unstoppable super monsters.

Of course, all that goes out the window when they look like bipedal iguanas and run as fast as cheetahs and are as smart as chimpanzees.

The pet Raptors are dumb as hell. Someone mentioned it a few pages back but the whole point of JP1 was Hammond and crew realizing they cannot "play god" and control nature.

was really underwhelmed by the CG. looks cartoony as hell.

the first t-rex scene (that mixed CG with a robot dinosaur) in the first movie was far more real looking than any of this shit.

One was that money has been the gasoline in the engine of our biggest mistakes. If there are billions to be made, no one can resist them, even if they know things could end horribly.

sounds like a commentary on his own movie.

So this man made dinosaur backfires and escapes and goes on a rampage....

Why dont they create proper contingency plans for events like this?

They should implant a small explosive device in its brain or spine so that if it went crazy they could remotely kill it.

That is still the point of this movie considering the basic plotline we have. Even when you take Newman out of the picture and implement common sense security measures, eventually the hubris of man will lead us to overreach and get in over our heads.

I don't think the trained raptors thing means man can ultimately control nature. People have trained similar predators before anything in JP happened, and that didn't mean man can control nature either. Think of it as a testament to how smart raptors are, rather than how docile they are (Im sure they are still shown as being dangerous to handle). Despite circus and magic acts with trained tigers, I am still scared of tigers. I kind of like the idea of these raptors either as part a secret military research contract or a last ditch contingency to bring down a bigger dino in the park that is out of control.

It's not like there was ever a previous catastrophic dinosaur escape to learn from./s
Sweet. Which scenes was it used in? I'm guessing head close-ups.
