Chrichton took a fuckload of liberties with the creatures.
IIRC, the Diloposaurus in the book wasn't described as tiny like the movie version. Nedry also didn't fool around with it nearly as much.

Didn't even think of that! Continuity... Can they erase 3 like it never happened?

As long as they don't acknowledge it, and I haven't seen or read anything so far that has. And there's really no reason to, it was a bunch of idiots acting on their own, so nothing of note was impacted as far as the canon goes. I personally do not acknowledge it as something that actually happened :P The whole thing was Grant's nightmare; yes, even his raptors-on-a-plane dream. That would also easily explain the incredibly poor characters and talentless directing.

If that's the biggest disappointment then you're in a good place because that aspect has zero bearing on whether or not the film will be well-made :D

I don't have a horse in the race on the topic other than the film can do as it feels appropriate. If having 6 spikes stick out of a Velociraptor's head to vaguely resemble feathers is what the director wanted to do, sure, why not. They could all start growing fur if that's what paleontology declares. But I do think that film continuity is a perfectly valid reason to keep the same aesthetic from the previous JP movies, since it's in the same universe.

I would assume Nedry has next to zero dinosaur knowledge (aside from knowing better than to shut power from the raptor pen), so he's talking about "big brothers" as in raptors and t-rex. He tried to make it fetch a stick for goodness sake lol.

The Dilophasaur shown in JP being a smaller adolescent can be a valid excuse, though when they show the Dilophosaur area earlier in the film when the jeeps roll by it, the fence looked quite flimsy and the fence height was low.

Well the dino was a little taller than man but it probably couldn't/wouldn't jump an electrified fence.

And if we're going to point out fences, the damn thing could spit acid so I wouldn't use fencology to defend this one.

Yea I'm rewatching JP1 right now on bluray and anyone who thinks JW's CG looks worse is out of their goddamn mind lol.

Brachiosaurus scene looks so bad today.

Yup. The DVD releases helped mask some of it but blu ray always exposes weak CG (just watch Spiderman 1 or 2 again on blu ray)

It was impressive for the time and still holds up quite well but the level of detail in the new one is still far beyond it.

The T Rex during the jeep attack scene and the raptors in the visitor center still look good IMO, but the raptors in the kitchen and most of the other dino CGI doesn't hold up.

If you're gonna compare JPark CG to JWorld CG, you gotta compare daytime shots. JWorld isn't even finished yet and already looks better.

I still wouldn't count on a barely 4 foot tall fence on a 6 foot creature that evidently likes to jump like its shown in the movie, esp if there's possible variation in height -- but enough speculatory JP minutia, time to talk about the now! Like these really important facts about Jurassic World!

Oh yeah. I was kinda shocked when I saw the Blu-Ray this week. It's all about the night time shots.

The raptors didnt age well either. Especially in the kitchen scene.

William H Macy seems like such a laid back person off the cam. With his long hair and that hippy aura around him. But the character he played in 3 was sooooo bad.

Yesterday I watched the documentary "Return to Jurassic Park 3" and I nearly cried a lil when Sam O Neill said that his Grand performance in 3 was better than in 1.

: (

No, Sam. No.

No, Sam. No.

Don't you remember when he said

"YOU CANNOT LAND ON THIS ISLAND!"

"This is T-Rex pee?"

"Charlie, take the phone to mommy now! Take the phone to mommy! It's the DINOSAUR MAN!"

How could you disagree?

Yeah, the dialogue was terrible. But apparently the whole production was chaotic. In that documentary Joe Johnston said that they changed the entire script 5 weeks before shooting :lol

And the best thing is: He made it sound like it was no biggie. Yet I'm sure everyone pooped their pants when that happened. It's Hollywood after all. And the final product wasn't great either.

Fucking Billy man. Gets stabbed by the Dinosaurs but in the end it's like : "Heeeey, I'm still here. They found me." (even though the military just arrived????)

:lol

For fucks sake.

18 cows per year seems a little low for a beast like T-rex...

My god man, Sam Neil's performance in Event Horizon was MILES better than what he turned out for JP3. And William H Macy is barely a shred of his glory compared to what he did in Fargo.

The whole production does sound like a mess. Seriously changing the script just weeks before filming? I guess scripts have been changed during filming before so that can't be too bad right? lol

It just seems so bad. I mean really, the best idea they could come up with to get Grant back on the (other) island was to use a stupid family and rescue a kid scenario? And then you get his buddy who steals Raptor eggs for being stupid and gets killed....but wait...he lives at the very end! Yeah there are some neat sequences like the Bird Cage but otherwise it just all seems like such a huge waste. As a viewer you're not invested in much of anything, certainly not the characters.

Oh and yeah, anyone who says the CG (not animatronics) were "better" (technically) in JP1 than what's been shown so far in JW is crazy. First of all, the "enduring" graphics which still wow us are the T-Rex scenes which is a combination of both using the real animatronics for the close-up head shots, and CG that is masked quite a bit by the night time. But all the daylight scenes are quite dated.

And according to the Director we haven't seen the actual animatronics and models yet so there's that as well

Pretty sure the plot is hybrid dino goes killer on the park. Panic ensues. Pratt hunts dino. Kids do stuff.

Wow you figured out the whole "plot"
psssst. That's still a premise
. I would have guessed you were describing random, isolated scenes that were shown in a trailer. And how is any of that terrible again?

Yea some of the scenes that was purely cg looks horribly dated, but a lot of the animatronic stuff still looks great today.

I haven't actually seen the blurry, and its been a while since I seen the film so my memory may be lying.

A lot of the raptors in the kitchen scene was puppets and men in suits. I think only full-body stuff like when it runs into Tim's reflection and jumps onto the worktop was CG.
