So I've never played these games (Legend, Anniversary, Underworld). Which ones are meant to be played before the other?

Just bought the Tomb Raider trilogy, which do I play first?

Anniversary is a remake of the original Tomb Raider and is not connected to the others.
Underworld is a sequel to Legend so you should play Legend first.
Point is that Underworld is not a really good game.
EDIT: Actually there is a certain return in Underworld so you might want to play Anniversary before Underworld.
You can either play it Anniversary-Legend-Underworld or Legend-Anniversary-Underworld.

Ok cool. I read Anniversary is a remake of the first Tomb Raider, so I thought maybe it would be better to play that first, but I'll play Legend first. Thanks!

I was asking because I wasn't sure which was supposed to be played first. I wasn't aware of which came first, since they're all in the same package.

Mechanically, Anniversary and Legend are close enough that you could swing playing Anniversary first and it wouldn't disrupt the flow of Legend's gameplay.
Chronologically it's Anniversary -> Legend (with very minor pre-Anniversary flashbacks) -> Underworld.

Anniversary is the best Tomb Raider game ever.... The atmosphere & levels design and the puzzles are the greatest in the franchise history.
And yes, play them by the order of the release.

Legend and Anniversary are both really short once you know where to go and how to solve the puzzles.
OP if you want to platinum them all, start on Hard. The only thing that it impacts is the shooting which is minimal. There are a couple of boss fights which will be a pain in the ass especially in Legend but that's about it.

Serious question though, what game series out there isn't best played in order of release?
I don't know. I prefer TR1-3, Legend and the Reboot personally. I think the fact that some levels were severely cut and some removed completely hurt my enjoyment. That and the finicky pillar balancing in Egypt, annoying combat mechanics and arena boss fights. Saint Francis Folley and Sactuary of the Scion were incredible though. As was the rest of Egypt.
