Ok I just finished Chapter 5. The 'bonus' chapter. What a loooooooooonnnnnnnnnngggggggggg chapter! Much longer than I expected it to be. There is no game clock, but that had to have taken me around 8 hours to finish. Chapter started extremely slow and a little boring at first, but started to pick up steam and had a crazy finish! Perhaps a little long but you can never get too much Phoenix Wright! The scientific analysis tools taking advantage of the DS system is pretty damn sweet. Adds a little more to the structure of the game than just collecting evidence. I was pleaseantly surprised at how well the scientific analysis structure turned out for Chapter 5. A well done, fully featured 'extra' chapter. But I did miss the lack of Maya in the chapter! Ema turned out to be an ok replacment, but I need my spiritual help!
This game is about as different as anything I have played in the past, and I loved every second of it. I wasn't exactly sure to how I would take to such a text heavy game, but the experience has been great. The twisting and turning of the storyllines is what makes the game so fantastic. Chapter one is pretty straightforward, and this is how I expected the rest of the game to be like. Once you hit Chapter Two, Turnabout Sisters, the plot twists and turns start to get bigger and bigger with each case. By Chapter 5 some of the twists were starting to get a little ridiculous, but it was always awesome to see how the cases fold out. After finishing the game I would say Phoenix Wright needs to be put into the top 10 badasses of the year category! While he may not physically beat people up, he verbally gives people the beating of a lifetime!
Chapter 4 was my favorite chapter. Not surprisingly, it focuses around Edgeworth, who is definitely still a mysterious character! I just loved how the entire chapter unfolded from start to finish, and it gives you new light on Edgeworth's demeanor as well (Which then, adds on in Chapter 5 when he almost reaches PW levels of badassity).
The evidence hunt is sometimes a pain in the ass, because during investigations you always needed to find things in order to trigger the next event. Made for some unnecessary back and forth movement, but on a whole wasn't too horrible. The trials themselves are the meat of the game, and make up for the scavenger hunting you have to do! Just seeing the back and forth banter in the trials is worth the price of admission alone.
I found out the DS game is a port of the GBA game, but with the bonus 5th mission attached. I also see there are parts 2 and 3 available in Japan on GBA. Do we know if these games are coming over to the USA? Also, isn't Capcom working on a a 4th game right now strictly for DS? I want them all! Do we have any info to see if these versions will hit US shores?
Do what you can to find this game! Perhaps Capcom will print some more copies, but if they don't grab it while you still can! Best game to play on the DS!
Condensed GAF talk for those who don't want to read semi long post!
Phoenix Wright FTW
