Just spent an hour playing F-Zero GX and...

How can some of you call yourself gamers... GX isn't that hard. One thing you must do is go into the options menu and calibrate your controller. Having your controller even slightly off can **** you up hard... i learnt this the hard way when trying to beat the level where you have to save the tranny in the burning tunnel.

Holy shit, the moron is pretty skilled, he just get the first in the last fraction of second, and why the hell does he do a spin attack in the final lap? :lol
the spin attack was because he was dead if anyone bumped him.

Wow, that's sad. I never understood why people let themselves get so angry at a game.

I dunno, whenever I had trouble in this game I'd just take a break. The next day I was usually able to beat it.

It was a bad night for me. I usually take a break, but it was a hot night and I had the window open (with no screen) and the curtain down. I just meant to toss it onto my bed and instead out the window it went. :lol

I can picture it. Walking outside, it's a nice day, when suddenly a WaveBird comes flying out of a second story window.

After I went out to the backyard to retrieve it, I tested it out and it worked fine. I still have it and use it to this day. :D

Probably the best arcade racer ever created. It's hard as hell, but, with the exception of Story Mode, it's a fair hard. And even Story Mode is doable if you know what you're doing.

Count me in as another who beat every chapter of Story mode on Very Hard without ever snaking. Hell I beat Chapter 7 on Very Hard without killing a single opponent. I just outraced every last one of those bastards, Black Shadow included.

This is a game that you lose simply because you're not good enough. Keep practicing, and you will get better, and then you will win. Even after months of not playing the game I can turn it on, pick a random cup and random machine on Master Class, and still easily be in the top 5 at the end and I can take 1st as often as not. You will be a better gamer after you take GX down.

Damn but I loved this game.

Thanks to this thread, I'm playing this game as soon as I get home.
Also, I'll probably eat the disc out of anger an hour later.

Yep, this thread has made me decide to pick this back up again. I don't think I completed the AX tracks on all the difficulties the first time around. I really loved this game, definietly my favorite out of all the F-Zero games.

In my opinion, GX was one of the best racers of the last generation. And this is coming from a guy that HATES racing games other than Mario Kart.

How can you determine that when you admittedly hate the genre?

It's easilly the best hover-thing racer I've played.

My only complaints involve the story mode universally cheating, the 'true' character endings are only reserved for Master difficulty, and the tube tracks are crap.

You stole my words.

Grand prix and story mode missions are too easy to finish even on the hardest difficulty setting once you learn to play. I can beat every cup on master and every mission on very hard even without trying. :)

Here's some basic techniques:

Dash Plates - hitting a dash plate on it's "edge" will actually give you "double boost" producing a higher top speed.

The Quick Turn (QT) - a type of turn routinely used in the max speed ladder. To turn hard right - tap the L trigger, then instantly hold right + the R trigger (while releasingL). The will allow fast and tight turns.

MT - Momentum Throttle
Release the accelerator when at high speed and you will experience a reduced rate of speed loss. This is essential for maintaining high speeds during a race. This technique is also of great benefit before ramps, loops, hills or edges. Boost before a jump and then release A for increased flight speed.

MT Boost When boosting you will notice after the peak of the boost your speeds will drop very quickly, MT boost prevents you from losing those speeds. Right before your boost dies out you want to release gas. You dont want to have gas off to short or too long. You should still see the back exaust lit up just before you resume gas, if your exaust flames are gone you've had gas off too long. If you let go of gas too early you will lose boost speed and you will probably try to resume gas and boost and not get a boost cause you mistimed it, this will slow you down a bit. You will be able to achieve greater boost speeds with this technique and its much better than button smashing the boost. This technique can be particularly useful for chapter 5 in story mode.

MD - Momentum Drift
Release the accelerator and perform the quick turn on banking or sharp turns to maintain speed.

MTS - Momentum Turbo Slide
This is a type of turn that will produce a significant acceleration and increase in speed while it is being performed. Take a turn to the right for example, lean the control stick right and hold L&R together but instantly release R and A. This should leave you holding right+L. For a left turn you should be left holding left+R.

MTRS - Momentum Turbo Rail Slide
This is a variation of the MTS move but is usually used as a very fast finishing move along the rail of the track down the finish straight. To perform this move, get very near a rail at the finish and MTS against the rail. Most top videos use this technique.

F-Zero GX is a deep game and that's why i love it. :)

Damn, we've been trying yto perform these stuff for about 15 minutes, but none of them seems to work :lol What's the problem with us? We've tried the quick turn, but it feels like a regular, we've tried to hit the boost panel on the edge, but it doesn't seem to boost more that taking it in the middle. And why the hell doesn't the game actually teach you how to do these technics, there should be some kind of tutorial mode or something.

Arrgh - I'm going to have to try playing this again - I never really got into it, and it always bugs me when everyone else seems to love a game that I just don't 'get'

My favorite thing about F-Zero GX (and the 64 one for that matter) is how in the 2 hardest modes, I can't seem to beat it with driving alone. You have to plan an unfortunate "accident" for your top rivals.
Yeah, that was a great mechanic. I can get really excited to see how F-zero performs with motion controls. No, we have a stick so I don't want to turn the Wiimote sideways unless it's leaps and bounds ahead of current controls. But the 'side bump' would be awesome if you can just shake the nunchuck. Or Wii mote for bump and nunchuck for spin. Wow, get on it Nintendo. It really added to the drama when you HAD to take out your rivals. That and the sign that showed you who your closest rival was. I loved trying to take those ****ers out on the first lap.

I still dont remember how I was able to finish story mode, I guess I just never gave up...still, it seems like a hazy dream to me, sometimes I dont believe I actually did it. :lol

GX is criminally underappreciated and underplayed. It looks amazing, it sounds amazing and it has depth and polish that games rarely possess.

it takes time to learn those techniques.
once you learn them you will be unstoppable

I Beat chapters 2 till 6 on very hard, never got around 1. I'm still trying to beat Chapter 7 on very hard but so far I haven't been succesfull and my skills aren't what they used to be. I did however unlock the AX tracks wich was a pain in the ass because I thought it was smart to win the AX racers first(with Story mode). I didn't expect the AX racers to actually show up in SP.. well I was wrong.
Did anyone ever beat the staff ghosts? Those guys are insane, now that's impossible, the rest of the game.. hard but certainly possible.

I prefer F-Zero X. Mainly because combat was way more entertaining. Also no BS story-mode. The later GBA games are shit-hard as well.

Great series and all but life is too short to sit around trying to master the games.(especially when they themselves are capable of shortening your life even more, like cigarettes or running headfirst into brick walls)

It wasn't that hard... Plenty of more frustrating game titles there. I think it's a game for people that like arcade racers over any other thing. I liked it.

Oh, I play them (mostly through rental), but I'm not their biggest fan. F-Zero, I liked because of the insane speed and level design.

I've always said that they need to get the GX dev team to make the next Sonic game.

Tried the boost panel stuff again in time trial with the ghost and all, but the gain seems to be very minimal :(

F-Zero X + Expansion Kit is better than GX by a mile.
the regular FZX is a tiny bit better. only if FZX could be remade with that graphic quality... :o
the glitches that screw up time attack killed it imo (not snaking btw. stuff like flying with side attacks and checkpoint skipping suck along AR-only custom parts)

(at least imo. don't pull those pitchforks people :p)

also, you haven't played a hard F-Zero if you haven't played in tracks like these:

also, here's another reason why i like FZX+EK a lot:

I know this would never happen, but could you imagine what it would be like if Nintendo set up the next F-Zero with an online mode that was hosted by a server, allowing 30 people to join at once, and the game running at 60fps? Nintendo would really have something.

I love this game.

Its announcement was the reason I finally bought a Gamecube back when, and it was everything I'd hoped it would be. It's such a rush when you can react and navigate those tracks at those speeds - really satisfying. And I absolutely LOVED the music.

And if/when the next F-Zero is announced, it will likely be the reason I finally buy a Wii (note I don't yet own any "next gen" systems).

I love these threads. Because I beat F-Zero GX on Master with every single car, and everything else in the game, too. I just feel like such a badass.

Of course, I can't beat Ninja Gaiden, so whatever. :lol

i barely beat story mode on normal and im only good with mighty typhoon ;l

still cant beat the blue and green cups on master

i own ninja gaiden up and down though :O

Hmm... I just bought this game about 6 months ago, played it a bit and haven't gone back, but now I want to play it. I'll have to pop it in tomorrow.
