Just tried Five Guys, does it get better than this?

Had Five Guys once 2 years ago. It was hands down the greatest fast food burger and fries I've ever had. Haven't gone back since though because I still feel guilty about eating there.

Not a fan of Five Guys. I have had it on two occasions, both times the hamburgers tasted mediocre and overly greasy. The fries tasted bland with not enough seasoning. Really not worth the ~$10 it cost for the meal.

After having it hyped up by some friends I tried 5 Guys and... the burger tasted just like Burger King to me. The bun, the patty, all of it... I was pretty disappointed and have never gone back.

Burger King is a staple for whenever I crave fast food. That coupon on the back of a receipt is the shit. End up getting a full size whopper, medium (32 oz) drink, and small fry for $2.83 after tax, or $3.27 after tax if you want to add cheese.. Hands down best deal in fast food.

Five Guys is basically fast food stockholm syndrome burger; decent, but overpriced and pointless unless you really need a burger and there's nothing else around.

Granted, I'm just in the NYC area. But I can't imagine their burgers being hard to top anywhere else in the general western world.

If you ever had Shake Shack (again, near NYC, can't tell how they are elsewhere), there's little reason to bother with the Five Guys of the world.

Bought some steak burgers from the butcher today, just fancied a good burger after reading this thread. Sadly no fries to go with it, just oven chips but they're nice ones at least.

Quoting myself, just made one and it was great. I have mine well done so I'm sure you all hate me but it was still lovely and juicy and the meat tasted great so I'm happy.

Shake Shack >>>> 5 Guys >>>>>>>>>>>>>> In and Out

No idea whats wrong with you cali folk, that stuff is trash tier. Any place that puts a slice of cheese on fries and then microwaves it, is crap.. Get it together

I've come to the point where if I want a burger, I'll go to a restaurant that serves it. Here in LA that's plenty, from a Stout or a Plan Check and so on. A little pricier, but I think I've become a burger snob. I haven't eaten Five Guys or In and Out in probably 5 or 6 years. I liked the hickory at Five Guys but the double double at In and Out more. I'd take a Stout Morning After burger over either, though.

Yeah, same here. If I am going to spend $10 on a fast food hamburger, I will just place an order for takeout at an actual restaurant. Price would roughly be the same, but would be much higher quality and I can have something other than greasy french fries as my side.

Well of course. I'll always prefer a medium rare burger at a pub or restaurant, but that's not fast food burgers.

Five Guys (UK) does tasty burgers but incredibly shit fries to go with them, which ultimately ends up ruining the experience. It's also insanely expensive for fast food, when for the same price you can get some far better (slow food) burgers in countless other establishments.

i buy a little hamburger with everything except mushrooms and split a regular fries.

after you order take a seat and eat a handful of peanuts while you wait. prepping your palete with those salty peanuts seems to really help bring out the taste of the burger.

Five guys, that's where they give you peanuts right? yeah, no thanks. Did not like those burgers. The best burger I've had has been at a place called Burgers and Brew in sacramento area. Have yet to find something as good.

Old ass quote but yeah B&B is the favorite here in Sac. I actually prefer Flaming Grill though. And I've actually had better burgers from Pangaea and this Spanish place called Tapa the World, but those aren't Burger places, really. B&B is dope, though. Can't get Pliny the Elder by the pitcher anywhere else in town I don't think.

As far as fast food is concerned. After eating nothing but McDonald's and the occasional Wendy's and Chick fill a, this shit is amazing.

When I moved to Illinois, people kept talking about Five Guys. "Five Guys Five Guys Five Guys." I got so tired of it I finally went to try one.

Blandest most tasteless burger I've ever had. Meat is literally tasteless. Bun is the blandest bread I've ever had, akin to wonderbread. On the positive side, the ingredients are fresh, moist, and the bread is fluffy. Damn expensive too.

Just a couple blocks down there's a Smash Burger. I went there a few weeks later. Fantastic burger. Tasty meat, nice thick buns, good toppings. Price wasn't any worse than Five Guys either.

I'll never go back to Five Guys. I will go back to Smash.

Bonus Round

In n Out - Fresh, tasty burgers at an insanely good price. Could eat every day.
Fat Burger - Thick, tasty, greasy burger. Great every once in awhile but not every day.
Culvers - A step up from Five Guys, but only one step. "Butter" gimmick is insubstantial.

This thread is depressing. Shake Shack puts these guys to shame.

Burger aficionados looking for a proper restaurant burger need to come out to April Bloomfield's Salvation Burger. LAWWWWD!

Ya'll are trippin. Anyone from Wisconsin (and some surrounding states) should know that Culver's trumps all:

I honestly don't know if I could choose 5 Guys or Culver's. Where I am they are spread pretty far from each other so I've never been confronted with actually choosing one before as it's always been whichever I was closer to at the time.

Culver's wins for best buns. Those things are like grease heaven. But everything else about a Culver's burger is only so-so.

Five Guys totally trumps the fast-food burger scene for its patties and fixins and fries. Both places totally trounce In-n-Out. In-n-Out is mediocre from top to bottom. Still haven't been to the Northeast to try a Shake Shack, though.

I had Culver's when I went to Wisconsin this past summer. The burger was pretty good but the fries and cheese curds there just tasted weird. I dunno if it was a bad batch or what, but it just tasted gross. I liked how fresh the burger tasted compared to most other places. If I had to pick between Culver's and Five Guys, it'd have to be Five Guys though. The bigger burger, the amazing fries, the customization options, and the Coke Freestyle machines just make Five Guys better in my eyes.

Am I the only one that thinks Five Guys tastes remarkably like Wendy's, burger-wise? I mean, the more condiments option is nice and all, but those prices...

Wendys is better, imo. At least they season their meat. It's also always fresh.

Wendy's is pretty top notch as far as the big burger chains go.

The patties, yes. But the fixins are totally different. And if you get everything on a Five Guys burger, it's a magic combination.

Five Guys is good but man way too expensive. Hate to bring out the meme tier stuff but In n Out is good and like 3x cheaper.

In-N-Out, Freddie's, Culver's are all better than Five Guys IMO.

You better be top tier if you charge as much as five guys, and they're not.

Raspberry Coke. You haven't lived until you've had Raspberry Coke. I never really thought about it, but I guess the Freestyle machines are a huge plus.

Funny to see I've already posted in this thread last year. Habit's always been my goto fast place here in SoCal.

ANYWAY.....Really excited to try the new Shake Shack this weekend that opened up in West Hollywood on Wednesday! The only one in California so far.

Any recommendations from regulars? I want something that'll clog the arteries.
