Just tried Five Guys, does it get better than this?

So within walking distance from my office at my new job is a Five Guys, an In and Out, and The Habit. Never been to the Habit before, went a week ago and was blown away. Awesome burger, great fries too. And there's a good amount of variety on the menu so I'm excited to try more. Went to Five Guys today. Been there once before, didn't really remember one way or the other. Hooooly crap this was overpriced and not that good. Like just middle of the road compared to every other fast casual burger, but it costs 50% more and it took half a fucking hour to make. Fries are better than In n Out at least. Haven't had In n Out in a couple years, I'll try that sometime soon to do the full comparison. From memory right now I would say

Burger:
1. Habit
2. In n Out
3. Smashburger
4. Five Guys

Fries:
1. Habit
2. Five Guys
3. Smashburger
4. In n Out
 
I don't know how large the chain is, but I have always found Backyard Burgers to be the absolute winner when it comes to fast food burgers.

Five Guys is still really good though.
 
How do you even begin to compare Five Guys to the likes of McDonalds, BK ect...

Not talking about quality here.

My first trip to Five Guys I ordered a Cheeseburger, Frys, and a Drink.

It was $13 dollars...this is twice the price of almost any combo from McD's/BK/Wendys.

Are you in El Segundo by any chance? Because those three places are practically next door to each other in the area at Sepulveda Blvd., with In-n-Out opening earlier this year to maybe help offset the chaos of the other In-n-Out on the other side of LAX lol.
This being GAF Square-Enix's offices are just a block away too.
 
For my birthday I got a bunch of gift cards to various local burger places. Five guys was included which I'm already familiar with, but a bunch of new names are on there. I'll give rankings if this thread comes up again.

Konami is close too. As well as my house.

5 guys is god tier.

About 6 or so years ago, they had a franchise in Austin that had no customers and a few exclusive menu items.

I vaguely recall trying an amazing chili bison burger with the crispy wedge fries and the best cookies ever. Probably the best burger experience I've had with the Real Shake Shack being second.

Could be nostalgy, but the franchised Shake Shacks and Hopdoddy didn't seem like they were in the same league as those two. Not that I'm a burger connoisseur, but I have no idea how Hopdoddy became a big deal in ATX.

Konami is on Rosecrans and there are a ton of restaurants nearby to go to on that street...Hopdoddy just opened but that's more of a gourmet sit-down-style restaurant burger. So is Islands. And the Flemings burger during Happy Hour. Good times.

Mayyybe you're right. Hah yeah I bet there aren't too many other places with all three of those burger shops so close. So far I like working in El Segundo a lot better than DTLA.
 
I went to Habit as an alternative to In-n-Out b/c I knew it wouldn't be as crowded.

But it was crowded, so it wasn't worth it.
 
It's a good joint but I honestly prefer culvers despite feeling that might be offensive. Five guys never blew me away though especially for that price.

I tried Five Guys for the first time just last week. I was driving my friend home and we both wanted something for the road.

Anyway, I just went with the regular hamburger. Pickles, grilled onions, lettuce, mustard. Basic stuff.

It was tasty. One of the better fast food burgers I've had. Probably not $6 good but I'm sure that's a common opinion. Shave a buck off and no complaints. I will say I enjoyed that all toppings are free, at least. If I went back I'd probably go a little more crazy with it.

Lol, bro, a Big Mac is $5 nowadays. Decent burgers (something not off the dollar menu) are always $5-$7 these days.
 
Had Bernie's Burger Bus in Houston this past weekend and that was pretty amazing. For chains I think both Fuddruckers and Red Robin are both better than Five Guys.
 
The issue with Smashburger is their fries are awful. So stringy and just meh overall, even the buffalo kind, meanwhile the Five Guys cajun fries are god tier and you get a shitload of them.

Their burgers are totally different, so if I want traditional I'll go Five Guys or if I want something different I'll go Smashburger. We had a great local diner (Deerman's) that had the best burgers ever but it burned down in February.

Yeah, it's not a complaint from me, really. I do think it's a reasonable price. Not ridiculously high or anything. Though a better value than a Big Mac, I'd say.

Two weeks ago I was willing to try a $19 burger at a restaurant. The verdict?
There's no such thing as a burger worth $19. lol
 
Those fries kinda bother me. Watching them overfill the bag with that super-greasy stuff makes me a little queasy. I know it's not good for me per se, but that's overkill. The burger is A-OK just fine, though. Far worse out there...
