I just got through the album. I liked Flashing Lights but the rest of the album is...

I agree. I love Flashing Lights as well as the singles Stronger and Can't Tell Me Nothing but the rest of the album does nothing for me.

Back to Pharoahe Monch....

Okay for real though... 2nd time through it now and I'm shocked at how bad this is. Common's album is better. There are only two songs on this thing that I like, Big Brother and Flashing Lights. Its like Kanye forgot why people liked him so much. I'm not anti-synth but most of this shit likes any soul at all. Drunk and Hot Girls COULD have been hot, instead it sounds like it was meant for a mixtape. Its a sorry version of Get Em High. But I'm pissed, this album had me hyped for half a year and now im feeling like someone just dragged me on the maury show.

I think this album is pretty damn good. Up to Kanye standards it could've been a little better (Common's new album is better by a little bit) but compared to every other rap CD that'll come out this year, Graduation is light years ahead.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Opinions are like assholes, etc., but that is just plain wrong. I think Graduation is okay, but I'll Sleep When You're Dead drops a duece on it from a great height. Strictly on production, even.

Maury Show? Wow... what the **** were you expecting from Ye - the next Illmatic or Blueprint?

Yes.

And for a good reason too. His first album was a classic and his second was very good despite having the typical sophomore slump. I figured he'd at least keep his consistency and make something worth keeping in my CD player. This right here... I'd rather by Sean Kingston's album than this shit. I still don't understand the love he gets for Stronger. What he did was not sampling, he just made a hip-hop remix to an already well defined song - he didn't do shit but throw on some drums and loop the same 45 seconds for a 5 minute song. Plus I get tired of him half-heartedly yelling "Oh!" over and over in the hook. Barry Bonds is soooo weak, its a damn shame when Wayne can't even save a track. Good Life is shit version of T.I's Good Life. Champion... man everytime I hear the song all I can think about is how he rushed this track like he was turning in late homework. I Wonder is okay, but the good majority of this is complete bullshit.

I'm taking what I said in another thread back, I really do hope that 50 out sells Kanye. Thats probably the only way that Kanye'll learn that he can't half ass projects and believe his shit smells like cotton candy.

"Drunk & Hot Girls"

I hope they cast either Paris Hilton or Linsday Lohan for the video :lol

Except that song is not good enough to be a Single or to have a Video made for it.

Drunk and Hot Girls is not even in the same league as say "Workout Plan" from his first album. Both songs try to achieve the same thing but workout plan succeeds on so many levels that Drunk and Hot Girls does not.

Listened to Through the Wire at the gym today on repeat for over an hour :lol.

I get in the car and put on the radio and Through the Wire came on! I was like,

"What the fuck....

This is awesome."

Favorite Kanye song by far.

Through the Wire might be my favorite Kanye song. So soulfulll

I just don't like how Kanye went from having 22 songs on his last album to only having 13. I mean, I love a good chunk of the songs on there, but this is just silly. I bet there is some other tracks on the final album that haven't been leaked yet. Otherwise, a no buy.

More does not always mean better.

Still, with only 13 tracks, I want an album on the Illmatic level of quality. This album as a whole is kind of "eh" and he like. I thought LR was well done, and College Dropout was really good. I hope that Kanye's Next album Alma Mater or whatever it is going to be called is going to be better.

I prefer All Falls Down myself.

Everything I am is a hot tune as well btw.

I would rather listen to this album than late registration.

This album is fucking blowing me away... although Lil Wayne on "Barry Bonds" was a bit of an eyesore for me, as well as that track featuring Mos Def.

Flashing Lights is definitely the centerpiece of the album.

Everyone will say on Big Brother that Kanye is a little too much on Jay's nutsack, but the fact is, Jay was just as much on Big's.

One thing that's just driving me a little nuts though, Kanye has been OBSESSED with using that "Long Red" drum break lately.

I watched entourage the other night,

do you say Kayne as

Con - yay ?

If so that's the most pretentious name since Abercrombie and fitch

I can forgive you for your dyslexicness since it's a common misspelling for some reason. Didn't you ever hear the original "Diamonds" track how he's talking about most of his plaques sill saying "Kayne"?

Don't tell him about None Shall Pass. I don't think he'd be able to handle the load.

At first listen, I wasn't overly fond of this CD, but while giving it a few spins en route to the beach this weekend I really started to appreciate it more.

Overall, I'd call this a really good album, with a few faltering moments that really hold it back from rising to the next level. The stripped down nature of this CD serves it well. I didn't miss the excessive skits or remixes at all, in fact this might be the first Kanye album that actually flows.

If I have one big issue with this disc, it's quality consistency. Kanye has never been the best rapper/lyricist, but on College Dropout, he was at consistently on beat and creative. Unfortunately there are more than a few instances of Kanye utilizing overly simplistic rhyme schemes, and slightly mismatched flows.

All and all, College Dropout is still his definitive album, but this easily tops Late Registration (which to me felt more like a transitional, inconsistent effort).

stop giving this man money.

When he makes a career that isnt based on rapping over everyone elses hits, let me know.

You have no idea what your talking about. Not even a good diss.

Yep. I'll Sleep When You're Dead is phenomenal both lyrically and production-wise. The same cannot be said for Graduation.

We should turn this into a DefJux appreciation thread. I'm loving None Shall Pass.

How alive? Too alive. How alive? Too alive.

Also, Graduation would receive an entire 2 point bump (on a scale of 10) for me if it was the remix of "Can't Tell Me Nothing." Jeezy's verses on that remix are great. "Fresh nine piece, yeah dem wings is caaaaaajun."

I am listening to "Flashing Lights" on youtube. I swear, it sounds like he's sampling "Anxious Heart" from FF7, even if all messed up by whatever kind of processing he applied to it.

I don't know why Glory and Home aren't getting enough love. He has some soulful beats in this, and they are all amazing. He even gave us what his new name will be (Yeezy)

I just listened to the leaked album, some of it was good but nothing on the album was something I'd want listen to for hours on end except Stronger. Holy shit, its like the best song ever.

I will pay 100 Million pesos to the man/shemale/woman who can provided me the song without Kanye's voice.

Was this inspired at all by the Clive Owen movie. I saw the title and immediately thought of it.

I don't mean to derail this thread any further, but as I listen to the beats on this album, I can't help but wonder what someone like Joe Budden would do with them. The laid back, soulful vibe is just perfect for him.

theres so many people trolling this album its kinda sad..... best rap album of the year, and the fact that he didnt sold out with a dance move is 10+ points.

god how rap has fallen. :(

Um, have you heard of Daft Punk?

I was kinda disappointed with this album....and I'm thinking that it was because I set the bar too high. Still, it's a decent album.

With that said, College Dropout (A) > Late Registration (A-) > Graduation (B)

Anyways, my favorite tracks:

"Stronger"
"Good Life"
"Can't Tell Me Nothing"
"Drunk and Hot Girls" <---interesting rhythm
"Big Brother" <---best lyrics (why couldn't ALL of the tracks be like this?)

Yeah, this is DEFINITELY much better than his last album, which was disappointing compared to College Dropout.

This is almost up there with CD, almost.

Not bad at all. It's good and will get millions of repeat listening, just not GREAT which I was expecting. It's kind of a new sound.

Anyway, Kanye is still at the head of the game, I just hope he interjects the stuff that made College Dropout great into the next one.

Ok, after giving it a few more listens, Graduation is overall a pretty disappointing release: Stronger, Flashing Lights, Good Life and Everything I Am are the only tracks I can really listen to. Big Brother has nice production, but I don't care to listen to him talk about his situation with Jay-Z.

Aesop's None Shall Pass, on the other hand, blew me away. I can listen to this album on repeat for hours on end. I love the production and Aesop's delivery - even though I don't understand much of what he's saying half the time :lol. Gonna give the El-P album a listen thanks to Lambtron's strong praise.

I'm waiting for 911 you pirating bastards!
actually I already downloaded my fair share of albums this year

If Ant says the album is good, most likely it's good. But I must say, after hearing 30 second snippets from each track I was a bit underwhelmed. Alas I said the same thing about Late Registration after hearing snippets, and I love that album.

Can't wait:D
