Katamari Damacy - 10 years old!

Katamari Damacy is the Dark Souls of fad games.

I preferred when KD was the fad game du jour to Dark Souls.

Bought it pretty late back then... But i had a blast with this game. Only bought the first(NTSC)and second one(PAL). Never bothered with the others for vita, psp, 360 and ps3. Are they worth playing?

I heard the Vita one is solid, but I never played it. Stay away from the 360 and PSP versions.

The PS3 is a "best-of" kind of game, it combines the best levels from KD, WLK and BK on 360. I just hate how Namco slapped a poorly optimized cartoon shader on top of everything, I don't mind how it looks but it hurts the framerate really bad on some levels. That said, that's the one I would recommend if you're not going to play the PS2 games.

First game was so original, charming and insane, and it only cost 20 bucks new. Nothing else quite like it, the kind of under the radar gem you were dying to show folks to blow their minds. Easily one of the greatest soundtracks of all time as well - diverse, catchy and a perfect pairing to the madness on screen. going to go have a listen to some of my favorites now.

I love Katamari Damacy. I bought it on a whim at the store one day, without any idea of what it was. I took it home and fell in love. since then I've bought the sequels, the remakes, you name it.

Speaking of which, I need a new gen remake.

I miss this game so dang much. I really wish someone would publish a new one, or bring that one mobile version over here in the least.
Personally, with today's tech, it'd fit right at home on any console. I'd hand it to Nintendo, given the wacky premise. Wii U could be good (use gamepad to roll, see what you picked up) or 3DS (almost same thing, maybe some AR functions)

Wii U could be a good fit since it has symmetrical sticks in the primary positions. No need for touchscreen gimmicks when the original controls were logical.

Gimme a photo-realistic KD. I want to see the fear on peoples' faces as they go about their daily lives and then suddenly get rolled up into a giant sticky ball and shot into space.

Rated M for Mature.

Really wish We Love Katamari would come to PSN. If Namco were smart they'd release an HD collection of Keita's Katamaris with a bit of context material. You know, if they weren't Namco.

I kind of feel like this is what Katamari Forever is. I mean, it's not a direct port--the plot (lol) is different and I think it's missing a few levels from each game, plus the soundtrack is remixes of the first two soundtracks and not just the same songs, but it's basically Katamari Damacy/We Love Katamari HD.

Bought this game at a Japanese department store after seeing a single TV ad for it. Probably the only game I've ever bought with my own money under those conditions. I was so engrossed by this game I brought my PS2 and the game back with me to the US, hooked it up to a friend's TV and handed him the controller. I told him nothing about the game, only that it was controlled with the analog sticks alone. We had a blast. Such a refreshingly original game.

Katamari Vita is a bit of a lightweight but it's still a katamari game so it's not bad for katamari on the go.

Katamari Tribute/Forever had some incredible remixed tracks. Everlasting Love (in English!) + You works surprisingly well as a mashup.

This tune is seriously on my commute's music rotation and it never fails to cheer me up.

yeah... probably the lack of dual sticks on Nintendo's successful platforms in recent years, plus Namco being Namco I guess.

I think Keita Takahashi didn't like the Wiimote conceptually either. I remember reading something to that effect when it was initially announced.

One of my favorite series ever. I still pop it in every once in a while and still have the soundtrack(s) in regular rotation. Cheers!

I enjoyed the first game, though I think I got it like a year or so after it was first released, so I'd heard plenty -- probably too much -- about it already.

Was the PS3 game any good? I played the Beautiful Katamari demo on 360 a lot but never picked up the full game for whatever reason.

What unexpectedly awesome games those were. I didn't expect much, but once I finally gave it a shake, it entertained the hell out of me.

This is a series I've always wanted to try. Is the Vita game any good, or should I track down one of the older games?

The PS3 Katamari is by far the best one.

Touch my katamari on Vita is okay, but super duper short.
Like, 13 levels total. And there's only like 3 environments.

I absolutely love Katamari Damacy. It came out of nowhere, and out of pure grass roots word of mouth and fan outcry; it became successful enough that the creator crated "We Love Katamari" purely as a love letter to the fans. It's like the little game that could.

It completely defied any idea of what people thought a game could be at that time.

Incredible first two games, never really played much that came after. And uh... Noby Noby Boy was never as fun.

$20 for the gem of Katamari was amazing when it released. It brought my roommate and I endless hours of drunk enjoyment after parties during college.

One of my favorite games of all time.

God I am old. I recall searching all over metro Phoenix for this game after reading about it on Penny Arcade and I ended up driving 56 miles one way to pick it up at a gamestop that for some reason had a single copy and no freaking clue why they had it in the first place...

So many stupid drunken nights playing the hell out of this with my roommates, quite the amazing game.

One of the greatest games ever. And didn't they smartly decide to price it at $20?

I remember when I bought this + Shadow of the Colossus at nearly the same time... man, PS2 gaming nirvana.

Incredible first two games, never really played much that came after. And uh... Noby Noby Boy was never as fun.

Thats not exactly fair. Noby Noby Boy isnt a "game" so much as it is a bizarre sandbox full of nightmare toys. You cant win, which is almost liberating in a way. You just... mess around with it

The first two games are pretty much as close to a perfect complete experience as you can get in video gaming and left me completely satisfied. The only way I can think of bettering either of them is to do a direct remake in HD. Which is odd because all the other games that are on my "greatest games of all time" list have some flaw or downside to, or a way they could have been better. The only bad things about Katamari comes from the later games and that doesn't effect the first two in any way.

I also can't see why anyone would recommend the Vita one, especially to someone that hasn't played the first two. It was even worse then the psp one.

Loved the first two (Takahashi) games, but didn't care to play any of the ones after that he had no input in.
Though the PS3 one looks promising, if only because it's primarily Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari levels.

Played through the first one for the first time recently and really, really enjoyed myself. I've been trying to decide how much it's worth the effort tracking down We Love Katamari versus jumping right into Katamari Forever right now, honestly. Things would be so much easier if they would just put We Love Katamari up on PSN.
