Kay Plays |OT|

I thought this should be posted to a new thread since we keep updating the old Dark Souls 2 thread. Fans of Demons Souls should watch this.

After Kay's great Dark Souls 1 & 2 playthrough, she has honored the pleadings of everyone and now tackles the game that started it all, Demon's Souls.

It's amazing to see how far she has come from the initial episodes of Dark Souls 1 to just waltzing around Mind Flayers and Shadowlurkers like it ain't no thing and piecing together all the meager bits of lore that the world has to offer. She chooses Royal and willingly ignores all magic. As a souls fan since importing the Demon's Souls HK version it's great to see someone who mastered the Dark games try Demon's and see if the game still holds up (hint: it does).

Blind? Like with blindfolds?! Cool!

No. Blind means playing with no hints or spoilers. Kay doesn't want to know anything that she can figure out herself. #keepthesecret Oh and I heard she also has a GAF account so please spoiler tag any spoiler discussion.

So who is this Kay and why do I care what she plays?

Kay plays games a little differently then most on YouTube. She plays without knowing anything about the game and goes into it with a strong sense of exploration. It's amazing how she takes in details and pieces the story together just by paying attention and respectfully appreciating the detail in the environment. Watching her play makes you learn new things about the game that you may have not realized before. Watching a blind play on the Souls game is really interesting since the games never hold your hand. You're going to fail, but given enough persistence you pull through. I love to see how she figures out how to proceed and defeat the challenges all on her own.

How is she the "Batman of Souls"?

Two ways:

1) Excellent detective skills learning about the world that she's in from the few tidbits that are doled out in item descriptions and character conversations. With her powers of deduction she discovers secrets that most people completely miss even after their second and third playthroughs like finding out Gwynevere's true nature in Dark Souls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEZRTwPqX8w&index=81&list=PLFPEDTXyQKoNbqs8NEkKbObhIGrVmRhxT

Oh and she also solved the Fez alphabet in the first episode.

2) She kicks ass.

She doesn't turtle either. Lately she's avoiding all range weapons/spells just to approach the enemies face to face and kick the crap out of them.

Yes, I have started watching her playthrough and it is great as usual. She seems to enjoy this more than DS2.

Also Kay = Waifu

The only let's play i watch (along with Jeff's that is... when he manages to).
I'm usually not into them, but her style of play is fun to watch.

She's pleasant to listen to. That made me want to play demons souls again but with my larger TV than before it looks like poop.

That rule is going to make figuring out World Tendency very challenging.

This^

I only understood WT after beating the game and went after the platium. It's really hard to understand alone.

Still working on her Dark Souls play through but super stoked she did this. Without a doubt one of my favorite players... then again, she's the only one I would listen to anyway as I mostly find the whole "Let's Play" thing a bit of a waste of time :P

I wasn't so smart. It took me getting the dragon bone smasher in one playthrough and being unable to get it and seeing a message saying something along the lines of 'tendancy required' in the next to realize that it has meaning. I still wasn't too sure what it was - even to this day. Hell I just looked it up now and if I read this right that means all I had to do was to defeat all bosses on the world to force a pure white tendancy which means all I had to do was just that insead of ending DBS playthroughs... ugh.

Will definitely watch this. I only watch her lets plays. Not even really into LPs usually but she is so intuitive when she plays with no hints or anything that it is a treat to watch someone actually figure out what is going on in these games on the fly.

Correct.
Beating all bosses, and not getting minus tendency in the process, will get you pure wt. You need to kill yourself in the nexus after every boss, as being killed in a world, while in body form, will detract from your tendency. You will also want to stay offline, so that no online events interfere.

After that you can kill yourself in body form 7 times in each world to attain pure black

I hated that system, so glad it's gone...

Interested to hear what her opinions of the three different games will be once she's finished Demon's. It's pretty clear that she shares a lot of the usual complaints that people tend to have with DS2, but I wonder if she'll prefer Dark 1 or Demon's.

I love her LPs. It's refreshing to find a YTer who isn't concerned with constantly being funny, over the top or loud. And she's just really good at figuring stuff out in these games. She's inspired me to take on the Dark Souls 2 DLC 100% blind no matter what and without using any sorcery, miracles, etc. And it's... hard.

She asked for suggestions for other games to play blind and I suggested Shadow of the Colossus. I think it'd be cool to watch her try to figure out the bosses by herself, so I hope she picks that one.

I had no idea you could game pure white like that.... or that it was based on
what form you were in.
. I thought it counted
every death - period. The fact that you can use the nexus to as a buffer is pretty interesting for people wanting to control their tendancy. I thought it was literally up to the knowledge and skill of the player to know what events they need to do to either raise or lower it.

God damn was this system obtuse.

As for Tendency
it would be fine if there was an easier way to get to a pure white character or world state. It's easy enough to get to black, but getting to white fan be difficult. Heaven forbid you decided to do Black first...

Yup. An ill-advised idea.

No way, I loved the tendency system. Who cares if it was obtuse at first... it added a lot depth, mystery and replayability. Figuring it all out and being able to manipulate it at will makes you feel a badass.

The tendency was a nice idea, in my opinion.
Just implemented poorly.

It's cool to think that world is rotting or vice-versa, depending on what happens in it, depending on your actions and those of others.
It's got that "haunted forest of suicides" vibe to it, that i like.

I didn't mind the Black/White world system but I'm not missing it. I get why people didn't like it but I didn't feel like it ruined the game.

To be honest I listen to Kay Plays while I'm busy doing little stuff in my room like cleaning, exercise, working at the computer etc. It's kinda like a gaming walkthrough podcast. Didn't watch/listen to all of her Dark Souls 2 playthrough since I plan on playing it but Dark Souls 1 was pretty interesting to listen to. A bit behind on Kay's Demons Souls though.

I think Kay is the only Let's Player I watch often just because she isn't about "look at this online persona I've created and attempts at being funny". It's actually one of the reasons listening to speedrunning(Cosmo, RunnerGuy, ZFG, FireDragon etc) is just as interesting because they're streaming gameplay for the game, not the person playing and trying to be funny. I can't think of any Let's Player on YouTube that's the same but am open to watching more.

Let's not post pics of Kay, kay?

Creepy fuckers.
She has one pic up on her account, so its not really a secret.
It's also nice to know how the person looks like when you listen to her for countless hours and watch her playing.

Don't want to hijack this thread or anything, but if you're interested in watching more people play the Souls games who aren't masquerading behind a fake persona, my girlfriend is currently making her way through Dark Souls for her first time. Here's one of the more recent episodes: http://youtu.be/m27KMZEyXA0?list=PLlIEOF8cuRfJVHG9nT-AbANYsv37tuRCh

She's good, I happened upon her on GAF and watched the beginning of her Dark Souls run and she got me to finally play Demon's Souls. She made it seem not so intimidating as the Souls games are want to do. The take it slow, be patient and aware approach made it seem not so hard, and it wasn't. Beat that and ordered Dark Souls straight away and am playing that at the moment. Just got to Anor Londo.

It kinda irks me she's comparing everything from Demon's to Dark 1 + 2 though as I haven't beat them yet! Also it's like the thing of, 'the Beatles sound like these guys' No, these guys sound like the Beatles.

I'm not quite sure why she's handicapping herself though, I guess she's played through enough Souls games she wants to try something new but not using a bow for the Storm Beasts is kinda just making it harder on yourself for 'reasons.'
