I haven't liked too many of Keanu's movies, but I like him, and here's one reason why:
A couple years ago my friends and I went to see one of Eddie Izzard's one-night shows at the Coronet Theater in LA. As we were waiting in line, this guy goes up to the box office ahead and then starts walking to the back of the line with his tickets.
I thought, "Wow that kind of looks like Keanu Reeves." And of course, it was Keanu Reeves. Surprisingly, he's actually as tall as you would think he'd be (about 6' 2" or so) from watching him onscreen. Most film actors are much smaller than they're shot to appear.
He got in line a few people behind us, and this struck me as pretty unusual, because a star as big as Keanu Reeves does not have to wait in line with the normal people in this city. He could easily have said "I'm Keanu Reeves, can I sneak in early so I don't have to wait in line with nerds?" or something and been whisked to his seat.
My friends told me to go say hi, but I hate doing that to celebrities in general and really the only thing I could have said to him was "You were great in Bill & Ted, by the way is Alex Winter okay?" which seemed inappropriate.
When we got into the theater, he sat on the end of our row with a stunning woman who had showed up to meet him in line. Behind him was a shorter woman who couldn't see because Keanu was so tall, which he realized and so began slinking down further and further in his seat and asking "How about now?" until he was almost fully out of the chair and on the floor. Finally he switched seats with his date so she could see, and chatted with her a bit more.
I've met a lot of celebrities both in my job and just being in LA for years, and a star on Keanu's level does not need to, frankly, be that human or nice to anyone. He could have cleared out a small area for his private seating, he could have completely ignored the woman behind him, but he did not, and clearly just wanted to be a normal Eddie Izzard fan there for some laughs like everyone else. I don't see a lot of his movies these days, but from that brief encounter I think he's a pretty classy guy.
