Ken Levine Talks BioShock DLC

I can't help but feel that developers "cut" these extra features and content so they can charge for it later. I hope that I'm just being cynical, but such a shitty thing wouldn't surprise me.

I think I'd rather see new levels or areas, but that's just me.

I can't imagine they could have done anything BUT that. I mean, the story is completed and additional levels would never make any sense within the context of the game.

It wouldn't make sense in terms of story, true, but there are *definitely* parts of Rapture that are never explored.

If they really cut features just to charge for them later, aren't you glad they're minor stuff we don't care about instead of entire levels? :)

Give us a hardcore mode, Ken. No vita-chambers, much less Adam given so you can't buy every upgrade in the game, reduce the max available upgrade slots by half, fewer weapon upgrade stations so you can't max out all your weapons, limit you to carrying only half the weapons in the game at any one time, much less ammo/money/everything lying around, and make time pass when hacking.

Funny thing is, you could impose these restrictions upon yourself while playing.

What I don't get is.... what's the point? This sounds like cool DLC for people that haven't bought or played Bioshock yet, and would make good content for a GOTY Edition, but honestly how many people are going to replay Bioshock? It's a linear story-based FPS with two possible short endings. The experience was great but not something I would want to go through again anytime soon.

With no multiplayer component, no additional areas, quests or characters.... what good does "refining the combat experience" do for people that have already beaten the game once or more? That's a question I would like for them to answer. :P

Yeah, what's the point? If it were a few hours long I could probably play through it twice within the space of half a year or so... but it's book-length and I just can't see myself picking it up again this side of Autumn 2008. The combat was something I felt I had to endure in order to get more of the story anyway, so I doubt I'd pay money for stuff which caters to that aspect. Really, they should spend their time making more story, be it Bioshock 1 extra levels or just Bioshock 2.

Personally I'm more interested in seeing what they're developing next. New weapons or plasmids might not convince me to play through Bioshock again.

Yeah I really don't see Bioshock needing more plasmids. A multiplayer mode, though somewhat pointless, could be interesting. An all telekinesis battle sounds fun.

It's far more likely they were planned, but couldn't be finished before the publishing deadline.

More plasmids would be a great start. What I want the most is for them to 'unlock' the game and give me a proper sandbox - ideally, with improved A.I. Eliminate the rails and really make Rapture a living, breathing ecosystem.

NEW FROM RYAN INDUSTRIES!
Having concluded clinical trials on four new Genetic improvements, Ryan Industries is proud to announce the general release of their newest products:

Machine Buster
Vending Expert
Sonic Boom
EVE Saver

Wow! That sounds really....unexciting. EVE Saver sounds like something that makes plasmids use less EVE, Vending Expert sounds like something that would make vending machines easier to hack, and I'm assuming that Machine Buster is some kind of attack plasmid that destroys Turrents/Cameras/Etc, or maybe something that makes them take less damage to destroy. Whoop-di-doo, if you've already beat the game then who cares about any of that stuff. Sonic Boom might be decent, I'm going to guess that it does something like knock all enemies within a certain radius backwards or cause them to take damage. Still, I'm not exactly waiting on the edge of my seat for stuff like that, months after the game's come out.

Sonic Boom was actually in a few of the game's trailers. It's the plasmid that you very briefly see in them where you make a push gesture and it knocks everyone in front of you over.

I get that DLC is easy money, but this game isn't suited for DLC. It's not like you can add new areas for side missions, it's not that kind of game. Also, it's not multiplayer so it's not like they can make new map packs and game modes.

I think new plasmid DLC would be pretty boring and not worth the development time. They should get working on Bioshock 2 or some other "shock" game.

How about adding some damn variety to the game (less fetch quests/more enemies)? Or maybe making plasmids less useless.

Most of the plasmids are useful except for that stupid security tag one, unless you're talking about the tonics as well, which is about half and half. The quests didn't bother me at all, but there definitely should have been more and toughter Big Daddies. The only hard one for me was the first, and ever since I got the crossbow, they fall like flies. I'm nearly done th game on Hard, which is kind of sad really.

After the initial lovefest, I do start to see the unlimited respawns without penalty as being a bit detrimental to the experience. At the very least, enemies should heal over time, or you should have to have like $100 on you to pay the respawn fee.

again, whatever tangible elements they add to the game, i'd like them to add 250 more achievement points that encourage you to do things you wouldn't have done otherwise. i guess that's pretty stupid of me, but having some things like "make one big daddy kill another" etc. would really do a lot to push me toward replaying this asap

yeah actually I'm down for some more achievements

With the Vending Expert plasmid altering your EM signature, you can fool the pricing circuits at any vending machine. Known to our customers as "Circus Maximus," Vending Expert will pay for itself in no time!

Well...I for one want to see Arcadia and Fort Frolic again...

If by security tag one you mean the one that tells the cameras and turrets to shoot the baddies you tag, I used that all the time.

Probably one of the most useful plasmids. :)

Fix the horrendously choppy physics. I love this game to death but the physics are pretty...weird. Like they're running at 10 fps while the rest of the game is not.

My problem is textures. Everything looks smooth and blank till I stand right on top of things and wait 1.5 sec and then the textures load. It's really weird and kind of distracting. It seems to be getting worse too.

In today's automated environment, you may find yourself up against hostiles not made of flesh and blood. Machine Buster gives you the edge you've been looking for against metal-plated antagonists.
