Kevin Smith secures financing for Clerks III

He's not the brigthest bulb when it comes to marketing or the concept of what makes stuff popular. I really don't understand why he cares so much though, why would he admittedly sell out like that? I always wonder if he's bitter about where Ben and others who got their start because of him, have absolutely soared past him.

I doubt it. He's wished Affleck nothing but the best, and they're still on very good terms.

Meh, he's always had a sort of "I love the guy... BUT" type thing about the stories he tells of everyone. I take most of what he says with a grain of salt given how sensitive he is. I love him, I really wish he could break out of the shell, but he has the same issue as Rivers Cuomo, two of my favorite writers in their given field, who never really got back to where they were on top.

Hell yes! I'm excited.

Mallrats and Chasing Amy are more part of Clerks 'Saga' than II was. They all center around Julie Dwyer's death at the YMCA pool. Clerks II felt distanced.

"Center around"? Maybe the first two, but in Chasing Amy, it's not really a major part of the story.

Kevin has absolute spiraled downward since chasing amy, the lofty expectations have just killed his confidence and has really tried to hard since then to find the magic. I'm still on board for this though, and hoping for the best!

I fucking hated Chasing Amy and loved Clerks 2, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Dogma I found interesting, but not particularly funny.

So yeah, I disagree. :P

Well that's unfortunate, as it will surely be awful. I've appreciated his recent efforts towards making movies like Red State and Tusk; Clerks doesn't need another shitty sequel. BUT, it will probably be more successful than anything else he's made lately, so if it ends up helping him make more weird/different stuff, then I guess that's the benefit.

Mother mother fuck, mother mother fuck fuck, mother fuck mother fuck noish noish. One, two, one two three four noish noish noish noish. Smokin weed smokin whizz doin coke drinkin beers drinkin beers beers beers. Rollin fatties, smokin blunts. Whos smokes blunts? We smoke blunts. Rollin blunts and smokin...

"Hey, lemmi get a nicklebag"

15 bucks little man. Put that shit in my hands. If that money dosent show me then you'll owe me owe me owe. My jungle love. Yea, owee owee owee ow. I think I wanna know ya know ya.

"What the hell are you singing?"

You dont know Jungle love? That shit is the MAD notes. Writen by god herself and handed down to the greatest band in the world. The mother fuckin time!

"You mean those guys in that Prince movie?" "Yea, Purple Rain. That shit is so gay. Fuckin 80's style"

That shit is the mad notes

To Julie Dwyer? Sure. But Clerks II was much more connected to them in the sense that the main characters are still main characters, as opposed to a cameo appearance and off-screen plot device.

I mean you get the impression that Clerks/Mallrats/Chasing Amy take place in a living setting with intertwined plots. Clerks II is kind of an anomaly in comparison.

Not really. It acknowledges the events of Clerks and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. If anything, the only anomaly is Dogma.

Not sure if you're aware but there's a pretty in-depth interview with him that was just released on the podcast WTF with Marc Maron. He's a lot more open than I expected him to be, goes through a lot of his past too. Give it a listen sometime if you're interested. http://www.wtfpod.com/podcast/episodes/episode_537_-_rivers_cuomo

I'm not expecting great things, I thought Clerks II was just okay, and very much not needing the dance segment. Also, for the love of god Smith stop casting your wife, I know you love her but she can't act for shit. I think it'd be kinda cool if he went back to a grainy B&W aesthetic for it to give it a raw feel like the original but I know that'd probably never happen.

Clerks 2 was fucking atrocious compared to 1, but maybe 3 will see a return to form

or maybe not, is more likely

I hope it's not as 'hey heres your old favourite aint that cool' as Clerks II. That was pretty tryhard hot garbage.

If he's going to be a hack, then he should go the whole way and bring the Mall Rats, Chasing Amy, Dogma world into the Clerks world. Call the movie Smithworld and he can podcast the whole event.

I'm glad he got it funded. Loved both Clerks movies.
Hate the fact he made Tusk though. The whole premise of it is too disgusting for my liking.

Not that it matters, but you're in the massive minority there.

I don't know why you got the impression I thought otherwise?

Because you said he got a lot of help to make Clerks 2 what it was... He didn't have his help in the first clerks, and he made a significantly better movie.

They actually made a Jay and Silent Bob movie... but it looks kind of terrible.

It's really terrible. I loved Kevin Smith movies growing up and still enjoy them enough to grab all the blu rays, but I couldn't make it past the 20 minute mark of that garbage.

His speeches are pretty great, one of my favorite bits was when he talks about an argument with Harvey Weinstein who wanted pillow pants to actually exist in Clerks 2.

I actually thought it kind of would have been great if there was a pillow pants in the movie just to see Randall's shocked face.
