Kid Link vs. Adult Link

Adult Link was something of a revelation, like a "he grew up with me" moment. But Windwaker link is a kid, so gotta go Kid link.

The whole appeal of the character is that he's someone younger, in my opinion. Ocarina of Time was clearly meant to be a one-time thing were it not for fan opinion.
OoT Link was 17 years old. Zelda II Link was 16 years old. Most non-toon Links are probably between 13 and 17. If anything, Young and Toon Link being 10 is the exception.

OoT had a perfect starting point in Kokiri Forest. Link surrounded by childlike people made age seem far less important.

"Adult" Link of Ocarina of Time is roughly the same age as Link was in Zelda II. Neither representation of Link is more correct than the other.

Majora's Mask prequel, play as the Fierce Deity and fight Majora himself.

action game by Platinum Games

Or Fierce Deity Link is Hylia's first hero and you can fight Demise and Majora in a game set before Skyward Sword. All God throwdown.

EDIT: As to the question, I kind of prefer "Adult" Link, but I love Wind Waker. Hasn't been a design in a game that wasn't for the CDi that I haven't liked yet.

Kid Link makes you feel like a giant, adult Link is generic Legolas #344826.

The best Zelda games having kid Link is no coincidence.

Wind Waker Link is the only Link that actually gesticulates and has any body language. Consider also how balls of steel he is, to the point of becoming an hero out of his own will power and for his sister's sake even though he wasn't any sort of "chosen one" or "hero of legend", and it's clear he's the best.

Tell me more about this illustration. It's obviously not official art, but it looks like it's out of the '80s based on the design of Zelda and the art style. Manga or something?

I'm pretty sure that is official art for Zelda 2.

Edit: I'm wrong on close to three accounts, they're done by Mikimoto of Macross fame for a really old issue of Newtype magazine which featured a guide for the NES game.

Adult Link works best when you're looking for an actual hero figure in a story with a dark or dramatic tone. Kid Link works better when the tone is more comical, and (for a lack of better terminology) the world is less 'grimdark'. The Zelda series usually strays away from darkness and realism, so Kid Link is perfect but in a game like Twilight Princess I think Kid Link would feel very out of place.

fool. Adult Link hit the screen before Orlando Bloom.

Bringing down Ganon's Tower also gave us the destruction of Sauron before Return of the King.

Miyamoto/Aonuma >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Peter Jackson 4 Reals

Got to go with Adult/Teen Link, he has the superior grunts and gasping expressions of the two in OoT with his perma-stern face in all its pointy nosed glory.
Wind Waker's young Link is great and all but my Link is the one that rocks the Red/Goron Tunic, Mirror Shield and Biggoron Sword.

I really like WInd Waker Link the most (see avatar), but I appreciate Adult Link from Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword as well.

RED TUNIC BIGGORON SWORD COMBO BROS.

Adult Link for home consoles.
Kid Link for handhelds.

Though overall I like adult Link better.

I'd love to play as a kid again on consoles.

Depends. I think TP works well with an older Link but MM is also pretty dark (relatively) and features Kid Link.

I've always liked Link as kid better, it makes the world around him that much more imposing. It's this sort of against all odds feeling, that extra step of courage that's needed that I find endearing.

the amoun of people who like and prefer kid/toon link disturbs me
he is overused and no, he is not in the best games.
OOT and TP were my favorite followed by MM (kid but not toon link).
Toon link is in what 2 good games? (ALBW and WW)
and in many lame ones (phantom, spirit tracks)
they tried to mix them in SS and blew it again.

I know many Zelda fans started when they were kids but a 10 year old kid fighting monsters that destroy armies is ridiculous, in OOT kid link isn't even strong enough to use most of the adult equipment never mind fighting the adult monsters.

Adult Link. Those battle cries though.

HUP!

TIYAH!!
