Yeah, she is talented and all, but she is wasting it on bland jazz fusion.

Yes, I love jazz and funk, but that is just the most uninteresting music ever.

Hell yeah, Hiromi Uehara is great. Been a fan of hers for years. You cannot compare her talent with Lady Gaga. Nowhere near the same class of talent. Hiromi is just so much better.

Edit: I would have posted Kung Fu World Champion though. It would probably please the jazz haters a bit more. There's a lot of diversity and varying style in that track. Not her best, but probably easier for those with less refined taste to swallow.

Edit2: Or Return of Kung Fu World Champion.

Gaga could be a good artist if she had tried to go down that road, although it's not certain that she would have made it big. Her early videos when she was more serious about the artistic side of her craft are fairly impressive. She's a decent piano player, no Elton John or anything, but decent.

Uggg. Everyone in this thread is friggin dreadful.

I love the people thinking that 80's pop music was somehow superior to current pop music. :lol

Hey kids. Listen to whatever you fucking want to. Take it from someone old enough to realize this shit does NOT matter and in 20 years this board will be filled with self righteous pricks romanticizing the year 2010.

Only advice I can give you is to start a fucking band!. Nothing is more fun than making music.

I can't believe that people used to have The Rolling Stones as the pop music and now we have fucking Lady Gaga and Rihanna, UGH.

Good.

Also you must be forgetting some of the terrible pop music that glurged out during the 60's

No, this is music(and jazz):
Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Max Roach "Fleurette Africaine"

Satoko Fujii is the best Japanese female jazz pianist and bandleader:

And now a variety of fusion that doesn't suck:

Herbie Hancock - Chameleon
Miles Davis - What I Say
Miles Davis - Theme from Jack Johnson
Weather Report - Second Sunday in August
Al Di Meola - The Wizard

If the track in the OP is any indication Hiromi Uehara deserves to be called a jazz hater much more than any of her critics here.

I'm sure it'll make somebody happy to know I've been listening to Hiromi stuff on youtube all day because of this thread.

While that is music, I find it a little inappropriate to blatantly tell children to screw lady gaga.
:lol

The fact that everyone finds it necessary to compare everyone to Lady Gaga shows how popular she is. You're not changing anyone's opinion, unfortunately XD

I don't understand why this is the case.

I get that she can actually play an instrument, but she's not any better at it than someone like Alicia Keys or Regina Spektor. Is it because kids aren't used to seeing pop stars who can make dance music and who are also somewhat decent musicians?

It's because Bad Romance is better than anything Alicia Keys has ever dreamed of and Telephone destroys Ragina Spektor's back catalogue, even with Beyonce.

Damn. :lol

I don't really see any difference in talent/skill between the three, but I'm not really into pop music either.

I just listened to Bad Romance again, and... it's really not that good. It's better than Britney Spears I guess. It's probably around the same level as a good Gwen Stefani single. Can't see any elements that would elevate it above that. It's nowhere near a good Goldfrapp song, for instance, a group who combined electronica and pop far better, IMO.

Huh. I thought Goldfrapp was a band they made up for the movie Hard Candy. Learn something everyday.

No. Listen to Felt Mountain and Black Cherry.

Edit: on another listen, Bad Romance is better than a Gwen Stefani single. But nothing earth-shattering.

Sometimes hype is just inexplicable.

Well, it's undeniable that Alicia Keys is talented, but I'm very indifferent (lol) to her music.

I think so. Gaga is an all rounder; she's 'decent' in every field and manages to appeal to the masses. Her fans (Including GaGaf) exaggerate this to make her sound like the next David Bowie but I just see her as good at what she does (Didn't like her at all before), and not some kind of musical goddess.

Agreed. I'm not a Gaga hater, but there are other people around making better music in a somewhat similar style.

Quoting for justice... But you're all gonna ignore this and keep posting your "favorite" track to listen to... :-/

Well people stop with this shit. If you don't like jazz just say so. This whole " I like jazz but don't like jazz fusion" excuse is dumb as hell
