Kill Mother F**king Depeche Mode

I do love KMFDM but I think it's hard to dispute that they've been coasting for quite a while now. That's not entirely bad, much like ACDC, you know what you're getting when you buy one of their later albums. Really, the entire industrial scene has gone so far up its own ass in the past decade that its a parody of itself.

My order of preference:

Nihil
Naive (both versions)
Angst
Symbols (the highs are super fucking HIGH, but the lows are low. Adios is the same way)
Xtort (Chris Connelly makes the album really. I love that its more experimental)
Money
Adios
UAIOE
WDYKD

Everything later

The stuff in the middle of the list could move up or down depending on how I'm feeling that day. They're still fantastic live.

And yeah, I love pretty much anything Ray does.

KMFDM is pretty safe these days but they still make some good stuff.

At least they haven't gone entirely awful like Skinny Puppy.

No love for Hau Ruck ? Free Your Hate and New American Century are amazing imo.

Otherwise, favourite tracks :
Anarchy
Inane
Disobedience
Sturm & Drang
Beast
WWIII

Sad but true....I miss the days of Dwayne, I think he really carried SP. Not to say cevin and ogre aren't good but you can hear the difference. Even in the side projects like early Download and Cyberaktif you get that darker vibe. Mark Heal ruined new age SP...

Then again most (if not all) industrial acts went to shit post 2000.

The thing is is you take some KMFDM material and some Earlier Depeche Mode work, the best structures are kinda similar in places...

And yes, Lucia sings a bit too much and they have explored into some odd territory, but overall the work is still solid and I saw then for the 25th anniversary tour and it was just amazing.

Pretty good track. It does remind me of the older stuff so that's pretty cool. It's been a while since they've done such a self-referential song, hasn't it? I always get a kick out of that.

I haven't heard the Depeche Mode thing in AGES. I can't believe they actually worked it into a song, haha. I remember during one of their tours they had a poster Depeche Mode poster up and someone had written in ways to kill each member of DM on it. "Falls off building", "goes over cliff in car", stuff like that.

I think the last few albums were good, but I got tired of them pretty fast just because they felt so samey. Well, that and the lack of Raymond Watts always hurts me.

Glad to see you guys are dropping some PIG knowledge. If anyone is into KMFDM and hasn't digged into some PIG yet, get Wrecked now.

Wow. Is any one else here from The Sick City?

Hey, Darren870 and jaekwon. Dunno if you guys remember me from TSC, but I was Schweinhund over there. Man, I miss those days when there was actually still a little life in the industrial scene and we actually had something to talk about.

Been a huge fan for a long time now (roughly 1992 era). They've just kept getting better and better as time's gone on. I'd love to take current KMFDM & pair them up with another Pig/KMFDM crossover. Mmmm...that would be delicious!

Throw in some Chris Connelly and I think I'd wet myself.

Sadly, I think Raymond finally burned his bridges with Sascha so I wouldn't hold my breath for another PIG crossover.

KMFDM doing it again.

I used to be a big fan but they sort of fell off my radar. I still listen to Naive from time to time. Lucia is pretty awesome.

Hadn't heard of any bad blood between the two camps. What're you talking about?

Just going by my spotty memory here, there was some stink around the time Raymond was releasing the Pigmartyr album with Eden. Sascha thought the album was going to be released under KMFDM Records before the whole Grand fiasco. I think Eden screwed him, or Raymond just didn't give a shit, but I know Sascha wasn't too happy about the whole thing and he's made comments about it.

Sascha also hasn't been too shy about his thoughts on Raymond's reluctance to commit to anything and from what I've read, it sounds like he's constantly reached out to Raymond without much luck and it sounded to me he was just tired of it after Pigmartyr. I don't know if Raymond releasing Pigmata on Metropolis along with KMFDM Records releases is a sign of anything, but I'd consider his absence from the last batch of KMFDM albums more telling than that. It's not like he was busy during that time with any PIG releases.

I can't really go into specific details beyond that because I don't actively follow KMFDM's news as rapidly as I used to and Raymond is as Internet shy as he's always been. Raymond probably wouldn't say anyway. As far as I know, he's never commented on his rift with Jim Thirlwell either.

cant wait to see these guys live again, saw them at a shitty club in seattle , it was over crowded and hot, but worth it.

"Sixteen rabbits on my neck
Uncle Sammy you can bet
No meat - No man!
No meat - No man!"

No Meat - No Man and Disgust were so awesome.

The older covers were so much better too. I wish Brute would go back to using less colours and ditch the gradients. WTF?!'s cover was a step in the right direction, but I'm not a fan of KUNST's cover.

Wow, this thread! It's been ten years since I've even spared a thought for these guys. Time to catch up! Keep the links coming, GAF.

I like how they have a song on every album that's about KMFDM. They've got a good sense of humor.

Start with Nihil and then go straight to Pig's catalogue. The rest of KMFDM will only disapoint.

I agree with starting with Nihil. Nihil, Angst and Naive are probably the top 3 for most fans.

Pig's Sinsation and Wrecked would be good choices after that.

Pre-Dwayne Skinny Puppy was still good. The post-reunion stuff has been pretty terrible though. At least they were good at some point unlike KMFDM!

How can industrial go to shit post 2000 when it was dead by the mid 80's?

I saw the thread title and immediately thought "KMFDM is still active?" and had fond memories of hearing them back when they were touring with Ministry and shit. Not seeing them in concert, because I lived in the middle of frozen nowhere, but first hearing about them during that era.

God I'm so old. Now I'm going to go youtube some Nitzer Ebb to make the nostalgia loop complete. ;)

Nitzer Ebb. Now there's a blast from the past. Off to youtube "Control I'm Here" and then some Front 242.

Also might ask aswell, but I've been looking for this pic, just wallpaper-sized... and google won't help, so it might not exist at all :p

If we're making likely suggestions, I'd recommend Foetus. Gash is an incredible industrial/swing band type album.

I used to be big fan. I felt like they started losing their touch after En Esch and GĂĽnter Schultz left, but once they picked up Lucia and the band split and Sasha and Skold did their stint as MDFMK I just started losing interest. The last album I picked up was Hau Ruck.

Nihil is my favorite, with the original mix of Naive being a close second.

Saw them play on the Symbols tour, back when GĂĽnter Schultz and En Esch were still in the band and Ogre on tour as a special guest. Great show. Saw them again for the Sturm & Drang tour with Pig as Sasha and Lucias backing band and was unimpressed. Also saw Slick Idiot probably around the same time as the Sturm & Drang tour and, though their album wasn't any better than KMFDMs at the time, at least the show was a lot more fun.

Ahh nice! Its a small (internet) world! Haha those were really good days. Except Sascha and the rest of the KMFDM threatening to sue me for making Pig bootleg dvds.

Yea Bites is still one of my favorite albums.
Fine post industrial...whatever you want to call original KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, Coil, FLA, and other related acts.

On a side note I used to love this site: http://www.darkdb.com/eklein/
Found so many cool bands through that site and side projects. All before the wikipedia days...

Haha, that sucked. All the hostility there was hilarious. Were you around for the time we all got banned from that irc chat during the live radio show?

This thread reminded me, I really need to catch up on my Skinny Puppy. I never really got into them at the time and mostly stuck with all their various side projects, so there's a lot of albums I don't have - including Bites.

I really like Handover (released last year), definitely worth listening to if you're into this sort of thing. I saw Skinny Puppy live two years ago and it was pretty awesome.

Actually, I like some of the stuff from Mythmaker too (Politikil especially). And yes, I've been listening to SP since 1988 or so.

I think KMFDM did a remix of (Rammstein's version, but still) Stripped, so jumping to the conclusion that they hate DM is pretty stupid.

Man, KMFDM. Loved their shit for years. I feel like I'm in the early 90's again.

Still loved the inclusion of Nihil in the Street Fighter II animated movie.

This new song is amazing, btw.

I sold all 30+ of my old KMFDM CDs a few years back. I think I got $4 on eBay for a lot of 10. It was disappointing. I think Naive and the MLWTTKK split were the only valuable ones.

They're a band that, for me, has zero staying power. I can't listen to it and take it seriously anymore (haven't heard anything since the symbols album).

Yea. And when Ray actually posted and people went in an up roar and he never came back.

There was an interview with him and he mentioned TSC and the whole bootleg dvds:

I posted on KMFDMDogma before Harvey got in trouble and the site kinda went downwards. Then went full time to TSC till it died.

Haha, honestly you can't blame him for his comments about the board. Some of those guys tried waaaay too hard to be edgy and aggressive. I posted on Dogma too, Harvey was a cool guy and that board birthed the legend that was CJ's Purse.

A couple of TSC guys post on the Swining board, but it's so dead you can check it every six months and you won't really miss anything so I never bothered to register. Man, I wish there was still an active community.

Yea, a lot of the guys went to theultraheavybeat (johnnyapathy, smackmaster, chris) but I never really liked that board. To much praise to sascha and new-age kmfdm and not enough about other industrial music. It was like the new age dogma.

KMFDM were actually playing 2 blocks from where I live in London last year. I couldn't be assed to go though, plus it started at 7pm... Maybe next time around. I'll even offer to buy Sasha a drink :-p
