Killer is Dead is selling quite badly in Japan

I'm on top of news/release dates generally and I didn't even know Killer is Dead was coming out this month. I thought that game was ages away for some reason.

This was in Japan? Damn.

Should we care? Grasshopper Suda games seem to bomb left and right but this guy keeps getting funding to make (IMO) awesome games.

Shadows of the Damned (one or two years ago) bombed badly, and Grasshopper goes on to release Lollipop Chainsaw next year.

Two different publishers though: EA and Kadokawa.

The result of Shadows of the Damned is that they will never ever work with EA again lol.

This game is also published by Kadokawa games.

So if they take the same response as EA did to their commercial flop there miiiiiiiiiiight be something to worry about for Grasshopper fans.

Is this some poor attempt at parody?

I thought it was pretty good, but feel free to disagree.

Anyway, Grasshopper's games have always done better in the West, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. I'm more concerned about the quality of the game. I know "lol Suda makes poop games," but this is essentially the same game as NMH/LC with a new skin. Is that all they can make?

Boneheaded decision to put this on the Wii. Everyone knows it would have done way better if all the real gamers on the PS3 and Xbox 360 had been able to purchase it.

reference to ps360 gamers complaints about No More Heroes acknowledged ;)

For reals tho, it would have been awesome if Suda made this game a Wii U exclusive instead. Maybe the NMH fans would've given it better sales.

Also, isn't NMH Suda's best selling game thus far?

His games never do too well in Japan. That NMH launch event years ago must have been sobering. I don't think Killer Is Dead will fair too hot here.

This made me laugh.

extremely well, 350k between retail and download.

Awesome, I had figured it would. I can't wait to pick up my copy tomorrow! :)

As for KiD, it's a shame Suda has another bomb but whatever, I'm still getting it. Not paying full price, but I'm getting it. SotD is so far the only game with his name on it that I haven't liked.

I don't think it would do well on any platform. Best selling has to be Lollipop Chainsaw, doesn't it? That's also one of Grasshopper's worst games, so that's wonderful and great.

People used to say "Suda 51 games dont sell on Wii".

Now is just "Suda 51 games dont sell"?

Lol! That´s what i was looking for :)

This game really needed to make it to a Nintendo platform. It feels like the majority of Suda's fans are on Nintendo systems simply due to the games he delivered there in the past. Suda worked to foster a community of fans inside the Nintendo ecosystem, then completely abandoned them for several mediocre games in a row. No wonder, people aren't rushing out to get this game.

Maybe now GHM can drop the mold set by No More Heroes and go back to small-scale and experimental adventure games. It's not like those would sell any worse.

Doesn't every Suda game have a pattern crap sales, but are great games? I have yet to run into a crap Suda game and have yet to see one that sales.

Marketers can't seem to figure these games out. Suda games really need to be played to get people interested in them I guess.

I remember the guy who would do PR for Shadows of the Damned made the game seem like a totally unironic bro shooter.
