Killing Floor: Red Orchestra devs bringing 6-player online co-op to Steam1

crap, I'm getting my debit card/checking account today, but it'll be after the sale. Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be.

new GAF server IP

***NEW*** GAF KF Server
208.116.25.14:7707

**NEW IP ADDRESS**

password protected with the usual GAF password. I believe you can figure that out. Message someone if you need it. I believe they will be happy to help you.

The GAF server typically doesn't have anyone playing. We usually just send out a message through the group page when we want to fire a game up, or, message other people on your friends list to play there. It's just nice to have a place to play where we don't have to worry about random asshats.

We're very casual when we do play. Killing Floor isn't the type of game that you would need to worry about your skills anyhow. It's basically just slaughtering zombies with no real tasks involved. Just huge weapons and lots of death.

I just bought this new server and I believe it is in New Jersey.

Well I'm from the UK, so having a good ping is doubtful, but I'll connect tonight to see :)

Just had my first few matches. I was expecting a L4D sorta thing, not a horde style gameplay, but I had a lot of fun.

It's a bit confusing though... not much help when you first start playing. You just sorta get dumped in a game with no perks. :lol I understand now though and I really like the Counter-Strike economy system.

The only real thing I can say against it is it's extremely rough around the edges in terms of UI etc. But I'm assuming it was a low budget game so whatever.

I'll definitely play more tonight. :)

Low budget and also a cheap to buy game. It never had any marketing or release outside of dd pretty much, it actually caught a decent following for such a low key game.

The game is HARD for newer players, you really need to level up your characters and get experience with the game before you can really get it's flow.

Yeah all these other players had kick ass guns and I was just running around with my 9mm mostly. :lol But I'm a big COD player so the perk system is quite a familiar thing. :)

It's more of a class based game with leveling up your characters so they have better stats/abilities. Mix with a counterstrike like system of earning gear/weapons.

When I was starting out I had lot of trouble with high level people kicking me for being too low level and being the suck :lol

It also has lots of custom maps and some of them are really good. They have map contests and the winners get included with the base game now.

Yeah, and stick with the 9mm for a few rounds and save up cash. Then buy a bigger gun. Then some armor a round ro two later.

The key is (this will sound obvious) to stay alive to keep your weapons and cash. So if you're new, stick back a bit and get kills from behind the better players until you have the firepower and skill to live through rounds.

I gotta get back into this game.

When I first started playing the had added Steam achievements (maybe always had them?) Anyway, I got some random one for killing a particular monster with the rocket launcher. Thought nothing of it, until I setup an account on Giant Bomb, and saw that it was one of the purple ranked achievements that like less than 1% of all GB users had.

KF noobs be warned: this game is all about the headshots, I can't stress that enough. Not so much for the shotguns & crossbow, but for all the other weapons, it is absolutely critical for survival through each wave.

Generally speaking, you'll want to have an exit while defending any position, don't back yourself into a corner with no way out. The hordes will just keep on a comin'. This only comes after experience with the maps obviously.

Add me on Steam if you guys wanna play. Steam name is the same as my GAF name.

I joined a 12 man server just to see the chaos and over half of the people were level 0 like myself, so I've not been at too much of a disadvantage at the moment. :D

Make sure your kills count on those 12 man servers. I'm not sure if those >6 players mods are whitelisted.

Nope. Servers that go past 6 players aren't white listed. Your stats don't go up, but you can use your current stats on them. But those are my most played servers as it is. Nothing like 800 mobs and a rush of some 15 Flesh pounders that take a few hundred bullets to put down a single one. I don't care for leveling up my stats too much. I already got the ones that matter capped(Demo+Sharpshooter). Pryo is also capped, with Medic and Shotty at about 5. Berserker and the useless one with the sub machine guns I don't care for :lol

When it doubt, Sharpshooter. M14 and Crossbow are the two best weapons in the game(Crossbow being the best). Headshots with the Xbow do a ridiculous amount of damage and once you get the levels up. One shotting everything but the Patraich in which case, they still absolutely destroy his ass. M14 is better for smaller stuff and up to the scrake, but Flesh Pounders are were they are weak at. With Crossbow, You buy more since they are cheap and come with full 40 rounds. Lay them all over the place so you are always near one <3.

Medic and Demo are two good classes two. Pipe bombs deal a lot of AE damage and efficient against anything. Gl's great for anything but Scrakes and FP's too. Probably kill yourself a lot though. And Medic is the kiting class, but not till you rank up to at least 5.

KF-Doom2, Got re-whitelisted again. Basically it is the best leveling up level. So if you are looking to pump out some perks. Find a server with that going.

New Update.

Killing Floor Update Released
Product Update - Valve
Updates to Killing Floor have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Fixed clients hanging during map change
Fixed an exploit found in the Perks system
Fixed a glitch and memory leak in the Audio system
Fixed downloaded files in the Cache folder causing Perks to disable

Mac Specific
Audio effects should be more correct (footsteps should be audible, player's own gunshots should be louder, etc).
Fixed MP7 Shoot sound not working properly
Dedicated server should work now.
Motion blur, windowed mode, and crossbow scope should work on all ATI GPUs, now.
No longer forces crossbow scope to "Textured" mode at startup.
Other minor fixes.

Highlighted fix is welcome, happened to me a couple times.

27.5MB apparently.

BTW my Steam ID for anyone wanting to play:

I've been playing this the last couple of days and it's incredibly addictive. Most of the time I've been playing on 32 or 64 player servers and actually find that I don't really care about increasing my stats that much.

The most fun I've had is on a 64 player server where they have max level perks enabled. In that, I go Berserker, buy a katana and then run around the map as a one man killing machine. I usually get a few hundred kills in a few rounds by doing this.

It's a shame to see the GAF server always empty though, I played it once a couple of days ago but haven't seen anyone on it since.

I bought it when it was on sale the 2nd time and so glad that I did, the guns feel great and it's a good mix of playing well and getting owned without feeling like you were cheated out by the computer, it's rather challenging too and I still need to level up my perks.

I am also quite impressed that the unreal 2.5 engine can do all these effects like bloom and motion blur, since epic never used it in their 2.x games I just presumed that the engine was unable to use such techniques. It also runs super smooth on my pc.

Any gaffers around playing this afternoon? Friend and I picking this up for the first time today

edit: this game is awesome

Tripwire just released their latest free content pack for Killing Floor, containing 4 maps and a new weapon for the Firebug (MAC-10, firing incendiary bullets). They also released a new DLC Character Pac called "PostMortem". And to top if off Killing Floor and all associated DLC is 50% off this weekend on Steam.

If anyone wants to do some suicidal runs (or just play on normal/hard), hit me up on Steam.

Hold on hold on...did you say 64 PLAYER server? How is that even....possible? I thought the max players this game supported was 6?

Yeah there are server mods that allow for huge #s of players.

Are you serious?

The default is six, it's not surprising someone might not know there were larger servers depending on how they filter the server list.

Well, given I haven't played the game before and didn't know about these modded servers, I'd say yes, I'm quite serious.

Just saw that Tripwire added a bunch of new Steam Achievements to Killing Floor (in preparation for the Steam Treasure Hunt maybe?). Looks like special christmas specimen and maps (Santa's Evil Lair) for the holidays. :D

Installing? I haven't uninstalled!

Anyways, another community content patched. Looks like it will be another 7 maps getting official. And the biggest most important part.... NEW DIFFICULTY! For those like me who have mastered the suicidal!

Didn't see that at first, but you're right. The new difficulty level is gonna be Hell on Earth. There will probably be some balancing adjustment to the perks, but I wonder if Tripwire will increase the official cap, too.

I tried suicidal before but unless you have everyone working together you are dead and there is always SOMEONE who thinks they are rambo.

Hard is becoming far too easy but suicidal feels like too big of a bump in difficulty over it.

Oh god.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/12/08/t...ing-floors-gas-mask-comes-to-team-fortress-2/

Christmas promotion madness. Arena-based co-op zombie shooter Killing Floor is adding a Pyro character for anyone who also owns TF2, and TF2 is adding a new gas mask for the Pyro for anyone who owns Killing Floor – or buys it before January the 4th. It’s part of Killing Floor’s Twisted Christmas festivities, which also add a Santa’s Evil Lair map, a Baddest Santa character skin, and Christmas-themed zombies including undead reindeer.

Killing Floor is an office favourite at PC Gamer, and this is an impressive amount of weaponised festive cheer. See their Christmas update page for the rest of the disgusting details.
