Killing Floor: Red Orchestra devs bringing 6-player online co-op to Steam1

Rahk said:
There's an arrow in the top left of the HUD with the distance in metres to the trader. There's also a red trail, but that only appears after you kill each wave of zombies, so the first wave you have to survive with just your knife and pistol. You can only access the trader in between each wave for a limited time. Also, check in options in case you have turned it off.

Man, I feel like I'm going crazy. I honestly can't see anything new once I've killed each wave. Could you post a screenshot or something to show what it's meant to look like? I have it crossed in settings so it should be on, I'm just not seeing it.

very fun game.

fleshpounders are mean! i tried going toe to toe with them as chainsaw beserker but you dont stand a chance without help! even flamethrowing need help on those guys!

Damn, I have the same connection problems with this that I have with L4D. After trying a number of servers it eventually disconnects my internet completely for around 5 minutes.

The game is a whole lot of fun, well worth the $15. According to the devs on the Steam forums, there will be a patch going out today-ish that should address server browser and some connection issues. It'll also default the difficulty of new servers to Normal instead of Easy.

Defcon said:
Ugh, the patch totally fucked up the server browser even more. I can't find a single game that connects now.

I'm thinking it's because servers have to update too. Most of the servers are probably still using the old version of the game so you don't see them in the browser using the new version of the game.

man this game is pretty good fun, little rough around the edges but for 15 its awesome. Im leveling my medic, I feel like Dr. McCoy running around sticking people *kashushh* GAHH STOP IT! :lol

people keep "accidentally" closing doors on teammates then welding them shut :lol

Okay, I finally got the chance to try this out today, and I *LOVE* it. I own Left 4 Dead, but this feels completely different - it reminds me a lot of the old invasion mode from UT2004 (which was sadly lacking in UT3). It can be very hard when you don't have a good team, and its quite hard finding a game (I agree it is a little rough around the edges), but it is just so much pure fun, I can completely forgive all its little flaws :D

My favourite map so far has to be the London map - so much variety in where your team can decide to hold up. I love the welding mechanic for the doors, which is just great - trying to keep one entrance to a room blocked off while fending off zombies coming through the other is so much fun! It all just feels like the sort of game which seems to be lacking from the PC these days, and I think I will be playing this over my usual staple (TF2) for quite a while

Yeah, I ran towards the door since the Patriarch was trying to kill me and they had welded it shut so I was gunned down at the doorway :(

I was on a 232 player server earlier and the amount of enemies was just ridiculous :lol Lag was horrendous though, obviously. 20 man servers seems to work really well though.

The only thing ruining it for me is that damned gate exploit of the West London map. People get up there and then refuse to come down, so they can't die and waves go on forever.

Are the requirements to level up the same for every level? Kind of boring really if that's the case.

Having fun with this but someone needs to mod out the annoying trader voice. :lol

I hope someone tries to remake the L4D maps for this, it would be interesting to see if they worked in the same way.

Also, is the Medic Perk bugged? I choose it, heal someone but never get any points for it.

How the hell do you use Zed Time anyways? I haven't figured that out...
It's random whenever someone gets a nice shot, like a headshot or multi-kill. There's an algorithm so that it doesn't occur too often.

Yep and I agree. To get level 5 Sharpshooter I'm suspicious it's going to take 10,000 headshots. Level 4 is 2,500 and it seems each level it more than doubles.

Ikuu said:

the requirements are designed to reward proper use of each perk. adding more parameters would be gimmicky and pigeonhole players into doing needlessly specific tasks to get anywhere. if you don't want to go for headshots, don't be a Sharpshooter.

Baloonatic said:
Yeah, and at the moment it doesn't even count headshots from double handcannons.
Yeah, I only found that out yesterday. Single handcannon is fine though. Easier to aim for headshots anyway.

Put 10 hours into the game so far and still loving it. I've yet to see a server running a long game though. I'd like to get some more achievements unlocked.

Put about 4.5 hours into it yesterday, didn't even know where the time had gone.

I love being able to switch between blasting enemies, bunching them up with various welding arrangements, and healing whichever crazy guy is using the chainsaw. :lol

This really has the most satisfying shotgun blasts of anything I can think of.

I finished a couple of long games on normal but never unlocked the achievement. Sigh.

Long games are such a chore. The first 5 or so waves are so easy that it's boring, and then if you die on the patriarch it was all for nothing. Medium 7 wave games are the sweet spot. They should have just made the achievements for that.

I imagine on Hard difficulty the initial rounds wouldn't be quite as boring. At least there is some benefit to playing through longer games for perk farming. I wish they would have included a stat for how many games you've won and lost since there is no benefit to playing shorter rounds other than the time saved.

protips:

Save 1 zombie until youre near the trader location (you have 1 minute once the last zombie dies to buy stuff)
Dont shoot the flesh pounder untill your team is ready then its nade/heavy gun spam city
CROUCH at chokepoints
G- is throw grenades
b- is drop money
middle mouse is altfire (using altfire you can heal yourself with the medgun)
leave 1 door in a house open/unwelded and focus fire on that (rounds dont end untill all zombies are dead)
dont rush a siren as a berserker, let your team kill her at range (your head asplode!)

the "boomers" also have poop stains on their butt... (this is not a protip)

Lot of fun. The weapon feel is excellent, guns are powerful and enemies have locational damage.

It's obviously a lot rougher than L4D, but I could see myself playing this longer, with the perk system and spending money on guns and all that.

Anyone else have an issue with the blur effect when getting hit? I've been trying to go berserker but every time I get close, I am blinded by that blur effect from a stray hit as there are just so many of them.

Edit: Hah! Overlooked the advanced graphic options tab. There is a toggle for the motion blur. THANK YOU!

Another quip my friends and I find a bit annoying is the lack of control or option to turn off the slo-mo. Your mate lands a really good shot and everything slows down. The problem is that the mouse movements are slowed to a halt as well. It's neat for the first few times but after a while I found it to be kind of annoying.

Just minor things though, overall it's a pretty good game for $15 [well 20 now].

Yep. The screen effects really suck. You can't see shit when you are getting hit but I suppose that's the point and adds to the challenge.

I'm really hoping they add a toggle for slo-mo in an upcoming patch. It was cool maybe the first couple of times but is absolutely unnecessary to the core gameplay.

What? You can aim just as fast as normal.

I really like ZED time, it gives you a chance to aim for the next headshot, or get off a couple of shots with the pistol. Even if you are reloading or something, it gives you a chance to spin around 360 and check the situation around you. Plus it looks fucking awesome, especially when you get it with a point blank shotgun and see them fly back a few metres.

For some reason I put off pre-purchasing it at $15 even though I was pretty interested in it. But the response in this thread is so overwhelmingly positive I might have to drop $20 on it.

For anyone having trouble with Flesh Pounders, I've found this to be the best way to kill them:

On a medium wave game, by the time you get to the 5th or 6th wave, at least 2 people should be using the supporter perk with hunting shotguns.

When a FP shows up, you can safely throw one grenade at it at a time and it won't rage. Just make sure no one else is shooting at it. Hit it with a few grenades and then the 2 people with hunting shotguns should shoot it point blank in the head with alt fire. If that doesn't kill it, it will turn red and rage, so run backwards while reloading and you should be able to get another shot in before it attacks you. That should be enough to kill it. It's not the safest method, but probably the quickest without wasting a lot of ammo.

We killed a lot of them with this method on Skilled (in between normal and hard difficulty) without anyone dying, but the same method should work on hard. Might just take more grenades or more shots with the Hunting Shotgun.

The alt fire with the Hunting Shotgun can also take out Scrakes with 1 headshot.

grenades take down Flesh Pounds like nothing. i regularly handle them by myself on normal (hunting shotty in hand, of course).
When I was playing on skilled they never went down even after 3 or 4 grenades. Maybe they weren't direct hits though, if that matters.

Yeah, Killing Floor > L4D, far as I'm concerned. Better shooting by far, character persistence, money system rewards skill. Only concern right now is the exploits some people use to get where they're not supposed to on some levels.

yuck, no way. I played a couple hours of each game yesterday and Left 4 Dead is still the far superior game. Killing Floor is fun, but the classes still have a long way to go balance-wise, some of the weapons like the crossbow and rifle are nearly useless, and there's just not much variety in gameplay.

There is especially nothing in KF that comes close to matching L4D's Versus mode.

Post your stats, mine are:

Medic - lvl.3
Support - lvl 2
Sharp Shooter - lvl. 2
Commando - lvl. 1
Berserker - lvl. 1
Firebug - lvl. 1

I haven't played KF yet, but the shooting in L4D is perfect. I think you're crazy. Crazy.

The shooting in KF loses major points due to the enemies not reacting to your shots. You put bullets into some in L4D and you know it, in KF they don't even twitch until they die.
