Killzone 3 "open beta" February 3rd to 15

Best way to tell is if they do not show up on the minimap as a friendly. Actually really easy to tell if you just keep an eye out on your minimap...almost feel sad when I melee them cause they think they are being sneaky.

My biggest complain, which was already mentioned but I want to echo is the fact that I cannot revive anyone. I have EVERYTHING unlocked for the medic and go out of my way to attempt to revive someone, and the worst thing is when I hit the revive button and then they tap out. My revive ability then has to re-charge, which is garbage since the dude tapped out.

Being a medic is pretty badass though, being able to self revive has gotten me so many kills and points its awesome. Oh and the last weapon, A28 with scope and silencer is badass, destroy cats with it.

Just hitting them with the butt of your weapon is a one hit kill and it isn't a long animation, which looks kind of ridiculous. I wouldn't mind the brutal melees if they were restricted to stealth kills.

In KZ2, they were always the Basic class looking skin, without the lights

ISA no blue light, Hellgy no red light

Now in KZ3 they switch skins regularly, they sometime look like medics/engineers/etc.
The flickering is so random, it just doesn't feel right

In KZ2 you can spot ISA/HGH from halfway across the map due to the lights, and if Sab tried to cheat and run across, he got owned due to it

In KZ3, player reaction has to be so fast, that you cant adjust to all shit happening and figure everything out

Thats why i feel sab works alot better now. Once you figured out the light trick of the sab, they didn't work all that great.

The melee striking range is too high which allows players to teleport a good 6 feet or more into the brutal kill animation. An infiltrator will also often get a single swipe melee hit that is very fast, kills instantly and does not stop forward momentum.

KZ2s melee system is similar to Halos where you are supposed to soften them up and then finish them off up close (but suffered from awkward controls at close range). The same should be the case for KZ3. A melee againt a wounded player (less than 75% health) can be a one hit, but above that it should be a severe wounding that requires a follow up attack. If anything this would require that cloaked marksmen and disguised infiltrators would have to open fire first.

There is zero way to tell them apart (save the radar, which gets jammed alot). Chances are, if they're on your radar, you're already dead. You should be able to tell the difference if you play the game a lot/know what to look for. It shouldn't be obvious, so less experienced players would still get fooled. KZ2's way with no lights worked well, but they should rotate classes for better protection.
 
Are there any Officers on here for the GAF Beta clan? Is there even one yet or is everyone just going to wait until the full release?

Why would everyone else adopt a shitty system like that? Whats the point of unlocking more weapons when you start off with the best? Doesnt that defeat the purpose of leveling up?

I remember in MW2 I kept unlocking all of these weapons looking forward to finally using them. Then I would grow disappointed and go back to the FAMAS. Whats the point of an unlock system when you dont even use the guns you unlock?

While the whole unlocking idea seems shallow and unimaginative (restrict access to content and then dole it out here or there to keep people hooked), the idea behind the system should be that a person who has unlocked everything is not significantly better off than someone who has unlocked nothing.

So far I have not seen a game where this is the case. In KZ3s case the udpates to abilities make players substantially better off than people of lower rank and the game will only really be balanced (within its own framework) when everyone is level 0 and when they are all max level (or at least have maxed out their one specific class).

I am not sure if they changed anything since the closed beta, but I hated the unlock progression then. You could max out 2-3 classes relatively quickly but the last 3 you'll need to grind. So for me I had to think hard which classes to specialize in first because the latter 3 will be a much, much longer time to unlock everything.

Think it's a pretty shitty system, unless I am missing something.

How does TF2 handle unlocks?

It still seems to be the same. They should have incorporated a respec option.

Probably due to bad experiences in Killzone 2 by respawning with no ammo and dying again seconds later.

How are you supposed to know if there are Medic's nearby when you can't even move the camera to look?

I wish I could move the camera around when I'm downed and see if that's a Medic behind me. Or on the Mini-Map it shows Medic's as crosses, or the game actually telling you if there are Medic's in your area, etc (like it does in Brink). KZ3 does none of that.

Thought if a medic was close by the cam would follow in on him?

Yep, pretty much. You cant do anything while down, and I have no idea if there are any medics around me, so I just say fuck it and respawn. Better than waiting 10 seconds, not getting revived, and respawning.

I know I know, beta. But this is a major developer owned by Sony. How long does it take to get a server up?

I was able to connect with no problems all day.

I have to delete my KZ3 saves to be able to connect. Stupid.

I'm probably only gonna be playing an hour or 2 a day, but it would be nice to have more people to play with.
 
Well, the game managed to hold my attention for an hour. There's absolutely nothing rewarding about the gunplay to keep me interested.

I hate this game. I can't believe they screwed this up so badly.

Btw, why the hell are there so many SMGs? So much pray and spray. I liked it more when most people ran around with the default ISA rifle and actually had to aim.

Why unlock weapons in the first place? I like what UC2 does, just unlocks bonus abilities. I feel like I'm at way too much at a disadvantage in KZ3 compared to the crazies that have already unlocked everything. I just feel that it's a horribly unbalanced game.

I remember getting KZ2, and after playing low level games for a while, I joined a gaf game and I went "HOLY SHIT. CLUSTERFUCKS EVERYWHERE"

UC2 has a good system, but random power weapons spawns would be even better.
 
Seriously, this game is garbage. The more I play, the more and more I realize how imbalanced and ridiculous this game is. Melee is completely broken, especially when using the Infiltrator. Get anywhere near an enemy (shouldn't be too hard, considering this class is broken as fuck), mash L1, and watch as your character model suddenly leaps forward and magnetically attaches itself to an enemy.

In Operations, as an ISA Tactician during the end of the second phase, wait as close to the smoke as you can. When you unlock the last part of the map, run like hell towards the "tactical" spawn DIRECTLY underneath the center objective (whose idea was this at Guerrilla? Clowns). You'll get there faster than any enemy since you had a head start, and from there is easy to simply overwhelm the Helghast for an easy victory. Just keep throwing yourself into the fray, fuck tactics or strategy.

Some other stupid shit: why can't I look around after I've been downed? Why don't friendly medics show up on my radar? Also, why can't I clip through downed bodies? Too many times I've been caught up on dying teammates/enemies ("UUGGGGHHHHH") in the middle of doorways. And the ability to spawn on a capture point BEING CAPTURED is, quite frankly, embarrassing.

Fuck, even the BASE spawns are horrible. In Warzone, the Helghast spawn fucking miles away from the action, while the ISA can easily take the three tactical spawns next to their base. In Operations phase three, the Helghast spawn on either side of the objective they need to defend, making them a cakewalk to defend (unless the ISA capture the ridiculous center spawn as I already mentioned). In Operations, there are initially only TWO ways for the ISA to cross the bridge, and the Helghast spawn on one of these ways.

I've already mentioned the stupidity of the tiered unlocks, so I won't beat that drum again (even though it deserves it). The game looks gorgeous, but the design decisions are fucking bush league. I seriously can't comprehend how people enjoy this P.O.S. when there's the VASTLY superior CODs, Halo, and Battlefield games all available on consoles.

I'll probably be back with more negative impressions later. I can't wait to find out what else is wrong. God I wish we still had the laughing smilies.
 
Can someone please explain to me why you are not able to spawn on a capped Capture and Hold site like KZ2? Please explain this horrible decision to me, please.

Also, Warzone is a great idea in theory but I feel like most of the gametypes end way too soon for any real battlefield ebb and flow to take place.

I can't believe they still didn't fix the controls. Feels like you're running in quicksand. I think most people are gonna play this beta for about an hour or two, then go back to Black Ops for the Double XP weekend :-/
