Killzone 3 "open beta" February 3rd to 15

The player health actually isn't as bad as I thought it was, though I think it might be lag. I based my initial impressions of player health on botzone but botzone has no lag and the AI has laser beam aim. It's not all that much lower than KZ2

I don't think so. I haven't seen any blue markers when I run as something other than Tact.

Also, posting on the KZ3 boards, one of the mods said that that the Jammer ability negates the S&M ability. I can't be certain, but I think the S&M may also negate the Jammer.
 
Can people please not include the spawn system in KZ2 as a plus when comparing games?

It was fucking disgusting and downright horrendous!

The only reason you would "like" the spawn fuck grenades is to spawn fuck the other team into quitting the server.................good times Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

is it just me or is the silenced weapons a major disadvantage when compared to the fully automatic counterparts?

I dont get it. why are they only burst fire?

cloak/disguise doesn't lift if you kill someone with it.

While it is a bit lower, I think that the increase in overall speed is the issue most people are experiencing. It is easier to get your sights on people and keep it there so it seems easier to take them down. Plus the guns are generally more accurate in KZ3 so more of your bullets are hitting their targets. Increasing health isn't really a requirement, though decreasing the accuracy of some of the guns may balance things some.

It is hard to use Botzone as a measure as bots only ever seem to use tier 1 primary weapons and never use their secondaries. So we will probably have to wait until people have leveled up at least one class before we see where the imbalances are. This may take some time though as people may switch their primary class after they have already put points into a different class.

Yeah, shotties in these types of games always seem to go through multiple nerfs and buffs. The shotgun in KZ2 is still horribly op'd. If they add a bit more spread and perhaps reduce the time between shots a bit then it should be o.k. I imagine a real shotgun is leathal from 15 feet, but it shouldn't be a one-hit kill if it only hits you in the arm.

Spawn grenades aren't really the answer, no. But the current spawn system is not without its own issues. I was thinking that C&H points should be the spawn points for each map, and people should be able to spawn on squad leaders. The spawn on leader system gets people into squads and encourages people to play as a team, and the C&H points are generally in neutral locations (but still high traffic, map controlling locations) making them optimal as stationary spawns.

I was further thinking that it might be interesting if C&H was removed from Warzone as a single mission type and was instead a Warzone long mission objective. Holding a zone would build up an asset deployment bar that would give your team access to mortars, or exos or some other power weapon. This would make controlling these zones of great benefit to both teams and would give people another place to spawn.

Ultimately though, everyone should be able to see the current status of a spawn point and everyone should be able to capture the spawn point. Non-tacts would capture at a slower rate obviously.
 
Yea I really don't get why you can't spawn on a capped cap and hold location, makes no sense. And I agree that anyone should be able to cap a spawn point but it should take longer

I also would really like it for players to be able to spawn on their Squad Leader. As you said, it would encourage people to be in the same squad.

What is the advantage of being in a squad now?

In the closed beta, the squad would share abilities (i.e. the Tactician's S&M would be displayed to all squad members). It's not communication, because unless I am wrong regardless if you are in a squad or not, you can still hear and talk to everyone. No more proximity chat for the rest of the team (or enemy team).

And I still think it's weird that parties/squads are 8 players but there's only a max of 12 players per team. Squads/parties should be 6 players to allow for 2 full squads to join together, and I assume would make the matchmaking more efficient.

You can only play when in a squad (even by yourself). If you mean clans, you can make your own, or join others'.

I mean, like in KZ2, there was a list of players in the match that were in squads, and you could join them. I don't see that anywhere in this game.

You have to go to the Squad Lobby, which I believe is when you press Start during a game. There's a list of people on your team that you can invite (via PSN) to join your squad.

Also, I assume they took out the squad member indicators on the top of the screen to save screen real estate but I have no idea how many people are in my squad now, what class they are, etc.

Ohhh....it works like that now? Not like the old KZ2 way? Why did they remove that? I liked joining squads, even if it was with randoms.

Yeah I don't like how they changed that either. Another "if it's not broke, don't fix it" but GG had to change that system as well.

And inviting people to join your squad creates a party too. So those randoms that you COULD realistically invite will be in your party when you move to another mode, etc.

I just don't see any reason to invite randoms into a squad .. unless I am missing something creating in-game squads don't provide any benefits.
 
Let me join in the chorus of criticism the health is too low for this game in its current state. It seems like everyone has unlocked the 3rd tier weapons. These weapons can put you down in 1 burst. No chance to react. A tactical team-based class multiplayer game needs to allow either squad spawns or higher health for gun battles to take form. It was a lot more fun at the beginning of the open beta when you had these gun battles with the level one guns.

KZ2 players, I think you are right. This game just doesn't work right now. The Frozen Dam spawn locations are too far apart. The underdeveloped Medic class adds more to the problem.

I'm strictly talking about Warzone.

I agree. I mean if they fix some of these things' it'll be good. And please, I love being the medic. I like helping people and my team, but in it's current state, even though I am trying my best, I simply cannot help as much as I could because I can't heal at a range. Hell I'd take it if they would allow us to heal from 10 feet away.

I think the health is fine, in terms of spawn locations, I think those can be tweaked some.

Overall, I had a lot of fun with it, and I liked KZ2. However, this has gotten my wife interested in the game, and she didn't like 2, so mission accomplished from GG.

Still playing an Engineer though--way too fun.

I will say that the Objectives mode is pretty difficult for non-Helghast. Way too easy to just place a few turrets and wait for people to run into bullets.
 
One of the Devs on the official beta forums have confirmed that the Medic Gun heal range is going to be increased a lot in a patch.

They said around 20 meters .. which is about 20 meters more than we have currently. Lol.

Also, they said that the Triage healing coming off the Medic's body is the same range as the Medic Gun right now (nothing), so possibly this means that the healing will be in 20m radius for Medic's as well.
 
Hey guys, don't forget to log into Home and do that Killzone defense game. If you beat it and the challenges, you get 3 unlock points. 3 unlock points early on is worthless, but if you save them for later levels, it really helps.

Finished them right now. The "game" is pathetic. Seriously, glitchiest, ugliest game I've seen in a while. I was embarrassed that I was playing it. I promptly deleted Home after I was done and got the code.

The infiltrator class is fun to play, but overpowered, especially with the shotgun. I took out 4 guys in around 3 seconds just sliding from enemy to enemy hitting them with one shot and moving on. Couple close range 1 hit kills with a disguise that dresses you up like the enemy = devastation.

I find the health overall fine. It would make using normal guns like the assault rifle more annoying. It's not fun having to enter a full clip in someone, especially when you get so little ammo and especially if you don't have the best connection.
 
I can't emphasize on this enough: Move + Nav = Godly!!! I've been owning people left and right!

Pros:

- Great substitute to mouse;
- Melee makes you feel badass;
- You are more in control than you can ever be compared to DS3;
- Love the fact that the screen doesn't move when using ironsight, thus more focus on enemies above and below you if you are holding on to a spawn point or objective location;
- A MUST for snipers for you have much quicker reflexes than DS3.
- Two way of reloading i.e twist of controller or square button, giving more options;
- Voice chat without the need of a Bluetooth mic!

Cons:

- Finding the right spot and calibration is a pain in the ass. I have two couches that are not right at the centre of screen so I had to get a bar stool from kitchen for maximum precision and comfort;
- Melee, while badass, is hard to do. Quick succession of Melee attempts may move your hand from original spot and you have to move it back again, which during adrenaline can be forgotten and confuse you;
- Getting used to it is also a pain in the ass since finding the right configuration and sensitivity can take more than a few hours;
- Grenade throws need getting used to as well;
- If an enemy comes close to you, prepare to shoot like a maniac. Since Melee is hard, spraying all around is your only option sometimes;
- Since there are two controllers, prepare to charge them both regularly if you forget to do so for a while, and if you have one wire, it can get hefty/annoying fr those with smaller cables;
- While the PSEye gives you ability to talk, it can annoy others if your TV volume is high as they can hear that as well;
- Reaching for d-pad on Nav can be hard during firefights since it's under the analog stick and not on the side like DS3.

My only request (don't know If it's there) is adding Melee to nav's face buttons and not to jerking the move controller. I'm sure there is a way to do so if GG wants to. Simalrly, adding an auto-center button (i.e. Bring the crosshair to center) to Nav controller as well for those having problem finding the right spot. Maybe X for Melee and O for auto-center.
 
Just tried MOVE and holy shiiii!!!! It works great! I never thought I would prefer MOVE to DS3 but looks like I would be using move for even online as I have been much better with it and ending in top 3 :D

Welcome to the master race of controllers!

How does Move and Sub compare with k/m?

It's the closest thing to K/m. Fluidity is the same as mouse. The controller can drift off at times when you get too aggressive but I guess same could be said for mouse. It's like holding a mouse in the air. Check out TTP's video over at official move thread to get a much better idea.
 
Finally got to play the beta. Its still pretty fun, looks amazing, and I can see how people could work out some nice tactical plans during warzone (really like the addition of cutscenes, gives the presentation that much more of a boost).

I cant figure out how to use Tactician properly, so i'll probably stick to Marksman, Engineer, and Medic. You really do have a chance to run away from an enemy encounter, so its not who sees who first.

Whoever is in charge of the beta clan, could you send me an invite at TeknomanEX? Or do you have to be online at the same time?

Also can you slide/use cover in MP now?
 
the problem with melee is that you have to do it when you are sure it's gonna connect to the target, otherwise a missed melee can affect camera orientation depending on how far you push it forward (and the vertical deadzone - I have set it to 30% btw). I personally got used to it pretty well and since it registers little forward thrusts which don't affect camera one bit I just do that and I'm totally fine. I'd never want to push a button for that cos I'd actually lose time moving the finger. Same with reload. It's gestures all the way for me.

You just need to be confident and cold blooded. Don't panic :D

Yep. I need to find a sweet spot with Melee. Practice would do. I can Melee 50% of the time with success. Need to make it 99% successful. Here's hoping they can add it to Nav controller as well.

P.S. Confirm a few things or me over at killstreak thread :D
 
I downloaded psHome and went in there to get my 3 unlock points. Should I redeem it now or wait until I actually have the game?

Killzone plaza defender was.. interesting to say the least.

Played a few matches with fellow Gafers, and indeed the visuals and framerate have improved since the other beta. And I love the gameplay, IMO is an improvement from KZ2, less recoil and health, the classes.. can´t wait to the game! And after all the good reviews of Move, this game is going to make me buy it

Just to weigh in on the health discussion. The problem isn't just the health is too low. It's a combination of lower health and absolutely no respawn timer. Lower health would normal encourage camping however with KZ3, as soon as you die you can respawn giving no penalty for deaths (bar your K/D ratio). This then leads to problems with capturing TSPs and making the medic class redundant.

If they increased the respawn timer once you died it would fix a bunch of problems with the game but they won't.

You can't slide to cover in mp, you can't take cover per say, unless you crouch behind something.
 
Cagen, just wanted to let you know that I wasn't able to accept the clan invite again from my PS3 .. but while I was poking around on Killzone.com > My Killzone .. I looked at my Live Feed and noticed that I could accept the clan invitation there and it worked.

So I assume you should be able to send invites that way as well.

The only thing I am not sure about is how it'll work in a crowd of mortally wounded bodies. Since you can't bring out your medic gun anymore and it's an automatic function of the left d-pad .. I am not sure how you will be able to "aim" it, say to only rez the assassination target as opposed to the guy next to him from 20 meters.

We'll see.
 
I love being the medic. It sucks when my team mates don't wait for me to heal them, but it feels great knowing I can revive my fallen team mates with like full health, ammo, and grenades. Stupid question, but the Medic can only revive once per life right? I feel horrible when two team mates are down and I can only revive one. :(

The shotgun is way overpowered though. That's like my number 1 complaint.

I am also a medic, my favorite class in team based games. The revive has a cooldown, so if you survive long enough you can revive another guy.
 
Oh okay. Thanks. I guess I never noticed the cool down because as soon as I'm done reviving someone I die like 80% of the time. :lol

Hey what's up with this? I just finished all 3 waves and didn't get anything except some stupid clothes or something.
Is there a points minimum you have to reach or something?
