Killzone 3 "open beta" February 3rd to 15

The framerate looks rock solid.

It definitely isn't, but it doesn't drop that much in the demo section. More stable than KZ2's SP campaign though, as far as I can recall.

And damn, the demo is great fun with the Move controller, but holy shit my hand starts to hurt after a while. Perhaps I'm holding the controller at a bad angle.

I look forward to seeing some non snow filled environments. Way to "contrasty" I much preferred the darker look of the first game.

Demo is good though, lots of different game play elements to mess with.... nothing particularly "new" for the genre though.

That said the menu music is epic and the cut scene at the end of the demo gets you pretty hyped.

(Unfortunately, Rico is still an annoying tool)

EDIT: the demo is up on the HK store if there were any peeps from PAL land still waiting. 1.5ish GIGS

I think I now understand what some reviews complained about when it comes to Move controls across different vehicles. On rail sections work fine, but camera rotation with jetpack is odd. Too abrupt and the reticule doesn't ever reach the edges of the screen no matter how much you push it. Not that it is unplayable but you clearly feel the difference coming from on foot. Feels like cursor sensitivity and camera turn speed went up 10 fold :D

I just finished the SP campaign and was completely blown away!
All of the new gameplay elements come together so seemlessly in the single player experience. I really like sliding into cover and performing the melee combos the new mechanics add a very unique feel to the FPS genre and give the game a different feel from other FPS titles. I think GG deserves much more credit for adding new gameplay mechanics to the FPS that fit well. In some ways it reminds me of mirror's edge performing the attacks and sliding into cover in first person.

Now to the visuals, if you thought the MP looked good the SP looks phenomenal in 2D and perhaps the goal for 3D helped improve the overall visuals, because the game is stunning. It's definately the best looking console FPS period. Also, I thought the cinematic elements added depth to the overall experience. Even the idea of allowing Rico to revive you adds a feel that you are playing with a partner. *I wish there was support for online co-op...*

This SP demo completely renewed my faith in this game and I can't wait to experience the full story. All I can say is wow...

Once I hit submit I'm going back to replay this demo again!

You mean you finished the SP demo right not the whole campaign?

Just played the demo through twice. I really like the look of this game. The image quality is absolutely pristine... I cannot remember seeing graphics so clean coming from a console. Maybe GOW3, but really, KZ3 may be peerless (on consoles) in this regard.

Anyone try the demo with Move yet? Have they improved the way that turrets move around the screen since the first Move footage? I love pointer controls but the way that some guns move around the screen always annoys me. Goldeneye Wii seems to be the only game that got it right. It seems they've improved the animation on most of the guns for the beta so hopefully the turrets got the same treatment.

That's true.

I hope I can get my copy before the release date, just like what happened with KZ2 (1 week before release date).

Correct... I was so hyped typing my comments I stated the campaign and I was referring to the SP demo.

I'm replaying now on Elite, damn the SP is good!

Yeah its not rock solid but much better than previous demos of the same level.

I may end up buying KZ3 for Botzone but I have two quick questions first.

1. Is it possible to select which team you're on in Operations mode?
2. Is it possible to play Botzone with friends (co-op or versus)?

Man, I just finished the SP demo myself and the framerate is smooth. Those graphics are insane though, the mlaa really comes into it's own on certain edges, it's just unquestionable, really nice IQ. Of course, the graphics. I'm sure these are the best I've seen in a while and I've played quite a few of the lookers across varying platforms. I really like the motion blur implementation whilst running, and the effects in that demo level are really impressive, you really get the sense that the wind coupled with the snow are menacing, perhaps not to sev though, since he's just wearing a shirt, lol.

Can't wait for the new locales in the main game, playing this demo already says that it's going to be an intense ride from start to finish. I suspect, playing this on Elite wont be a walk in the park either, the Ai in KZ3 are pretty good even on normal difficulty.

Just beat it on Elite with the Move and it was not all that difficult. The most difficult part was getting on top of the AA platform (died a lot there) but after that it was fairly easy.

On a side note, the on-screen cursor was on on Elite (in the earlier preview demo I've got it's off). I can't check it out now but is it the same when using a DS3? Is the cursor on on Elite difficulty?

1. hmm not that i know of, you always change sides every round
2. you can't, its offline

all based on the Beta but most likely it would be the same in the retail version too

Just went to pre-order this from Shopto and WTF is this? UK doesn't get it 'til the 25th??? Fuck. :(

Are there any pre-order bonuses for us second rate citizens in the UK or do we get screwed out of the two classic maps and free unlock points as well? :|

No reticle on elite with DS3. What sucks is if you quit the demo after unlocking elite in order to play it again you have to complete in vet first each time.

Minor off-topic question; is it known yet if the save file will be locked like the one for KZ2? Major fucking suckage if that's the case.

Thanks. Hmm, perhaps they changed their mind about removing the reticule when playing with the Move. Odd tho, I had no problem without it in the preview build.

You sure you need to complete on vet to unlock Elite? I think any difficulty will do, no?

Yes, finishing the demo on any difficulty opens up Elite.

Has the A.I. improved over KZ2? I found it to be the best in the biz so if its improved than that would be impressive.

Quite a bit. Well, AI was great in KZ2 already IMO, but in KZ3 the higgs move behind cover (or switch cover) much faster. Their reaction times are increased basically.

Do we know of any PSN store that doens't have the SP demo as a PS+ exclusive?
Hong Kong

Damn, just finished the demo. Now I may be down on the MP, but the SP looks to deliver. Controls great with the Move, but the jetpack aiming seemed a lot twitchier than the default guns.

BeeDog said:
Yeah, seriously, what's up with the Move controls for the jetpack? It's like the sensitivy gets jacked up to 100%.

I did some tests and it looks like the camera acceleration area is severely "shrunk" when controlling the jetpack, so you reach top camera rotation speed much faster. I don't really understand why they did this. I'm actually worried for the online multiplayer now. Think I'm gonna suck at jetpacks... :/

I still haven't been able to log into the beta since last Tuesday night, really sucks that I can't friggen play it.

I don;t mind listening to the opening music, but it cuts out after a couple minutes waiting for connection failure, lol.

I don't like the Move controls all that much (yeah yeah, need to get used to it, etc), but going back to the DS, it's pretty clear just how much faster targetting is with the Move. It's totally possible that the top players will be using Move, as I do think there's an advantage to be had. If only I could get movement down to where I feel as comfortable as I do with the DS.

so the multi is back up.

Infuriating gme to play on your own. Routinely running into teams of snipers controlling the whole fucking map with their indefinate invincibility and silenced smgs.

Spawn invincibility is crap on TSLs. Give the spawning team a camera view instead of invincibility. Enough times i've cleared out a spawn only to get brapped by a prick with invincibility just as i neutralise. Don't punish me for pushing through, punish them for giving it up.

I imagine guerilla warfare will be all Tacts and Scouts all day.

There's your green folks!

I was going to post this but my shitty Mac had a kernel panic while watching that video on Killzone's website.

There is no countdown to respawn once you die is there? I can't remember and can't check as I am at work. If so 3 seconds is plenty of time to respawn and kill the tactician. I have done it multiple times in this beta, it has not been fixed. They have lessened the occurrence by shortening the capture time but it is still very possible.

There is a 5 second countdown.

I think that's more Killzone's shitty website than your shitty Mac. And I liked the look of the map too!

map looks great. Hopefully we can climb some of those structures.

those pop-ups are completely obnoxious.

Layout wise look kinda similar to the beta map with mechs. I wish they showed that map so we'll know if they fixed the spawn camping by mechs, and maybe added few more spawn points?

I just found out that Move players will play on different servers than DS players. This is probably common knowledge, but this definitely decreases my desire to use Move with this game. I thought I needed it to be competitive with the top players.
