Killzone dev Guerrilla confirms work on new IP has begun

Nooo I want a Killzone RPG! Although I don't think this is the end of KZ, SF will probably sell lots (its a launch title) and GG will want to make another quick one before shelving the IP.

Where is the evidence that either Killzone sold millions?

Everything KZ does is done better by other developers. Hence why they're not a A tier developer. To count Guerilla among the biggest FPS developers in the world is lunacy. A lot of the love for them comes from people who have a great affection for Sonys WWS. Outside of this, they're unknown.

Killzone 2 is the best shooter of the gen, it was truly something unique before they went after the CoD crowd.

Still a long way off? I thought they had been working on it for years now.

I'm guessing that they where working on what genre for it to be, story, etc....

and not telling on what Genre it is right now is just them trying not to have the limelight of KZ SF be taken away before it's released

Killzone 2 alone has past a million in the first month it released over four years ago

It's not that hard to extrapolate with Killzone 1 and 3 that the series well into the millions.

And the rest of your post is just personal opinion that doesn't hold any weight in the grand scheme of things. I could go on and on about Ubisoft and Team Meat producing better and more innovative platformers than Nintendo has with nsmb series and the only reason people play them is because of great affection and nostalgia to Nintendo's history. Or talk on how Forza is a low tier franchise because GT sells much more.

Lots of trolls in this thread that think reality is shaped around their opinions.

You just summarized my post in one sentence

I mean for fuck's sake, the Forza titles sell multi-millions, and Turn 10 is a cult developer now? I can understand there's bigger kids on the block, but the exaggeration is just nonsensical.
His opinion > facts. I guess the only thing that can be done is to avoid feeding the troll.

I always thought they have been working on it for a while now. Huh...
I wonder who will make the KZ games from now on. Does GG has another team besides of KZ team? (I really hope GG Cambridge stays a handheld dev)

They have two teams at the main studio.

Killzone 3 sold signifantly less in its first month. 288k to be exact. To me that makes the franchise very niche. It's obvious Guerilla struggled to get people's interest.

As I said, hopefully any new IP can be less generic and offer something unique.

Selling almost 300k copies in a debut month is nowhere near a niche franchise.

I can't see why they can't keep both I.Ps.... why are some people saying how they'll drop the KZ series

KZ SF in my guess will be a trilogy

kz3 still sold 1.6 mill in its first 5 months. that is nowhere near niche, so shut up already.

I remembered correctly then. They have been working on this before surely. Maybe it's just the actual development that's started now.

I'm guessing the story, concept, idea, and art has all been established already so like you said full development is just now starting with Killzone almost out the door.

Sales for the game dropped off a cliff after the first month. It's obvious they've had trouble generating interest in the franchise.

Sales in the UK were very low as well.

Edit. Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread any further.

that 300k first-month sale was because killzone 3 released on feb 22 which is 6 days from the monthly npd. so in fact it was 300k first-week sales.

and as EmptySpace have said, kz3 sold 1.6 million in 5 months. so yes go ahead and shut up already.

Nice. GG's games are superlative from an artistic and technical perspective, Killzone 2 has some of the strongest art design seen in a game. Will be interesting to see what they can do outside of the KZ universe.

well they had some weird pitches most of which if not all where dropped

and they've been expanding on some character artist teams from being small around February:

September more Artist:

I'm guessing that they got the route of their idea now and are busily drawing characters and places for their game

Weren't they doing this sometime ago?

Anyway, this is good.
I always though they had talent when it comes to the tech department, but it always felt like a waste since Killzone is a generic dime a dozen shooter.
They remind me of crytek, best in the graphics department but you just wish they would do another genre...although, I'm not fond of Ryse.

i'd be really interested to see what guerilla would do with an rpg. i've never been sucked into a wrpg though (tried many times). i've really enjoyed guerilla's games, so maybe i could get into a wrpg from them.

I would really love to see a medieval-fantasy game infused with a little alternative steampunk sci-fi from them. An RPG or MMO. Of course the whole thing executed in their dark, gritty approach.

(And as an FPS. Sorry I love first person shooters)

i just hope it's something they themselves REALLY want to make, and not some Uncharted-clone Sony pressured them to make.

i have faith. we'll see.

I would love to see them do an open world RPG. Even if it's a shooter. WWS needs an open world RPG in its repetoire bad.

Hopefully Guerilla's experiment with more open level design in Shadowfall is a test for both the engine and the team.

If they want to be REALLY different, would like to see a 3D platform game from them. Something bright and cheerful, and able to provide major differentiation to the portfolio of blow everything up games that have become so common.

They did that. It's called Knack, and it's generally shit on by people on the internet. The market just doesn't crave these kinds of games anymore, sadly.

About damn time.... I never felt that Killzone was a very strong or compelling IP to begin with. Always seemed like a rushed attempt to have a sci-fi shooter to compete with Halo.
Will admit I am very impressed with Mercenary though.
