why is she not the main protagonist?

Yeah Final Fantasy XV models look better than this. Don't see what the fuss is all about.
Could never understand why detractors would come into a thread and try to go off topic because a game they're interested in isn't getting praise at the moment...just baffles me. Why not just go to the FFXV thread and talk about it's splendor there and leave KZ be? But honestly, you're wrong so just leave and carry on...there's a reason everyone is marveling about the models. Quite simply it's because they match the CG from KZ2's opening cinematic. How many games do that?

Okay, so here is the question I was pensive about (racial insensitivity): Why do african american skin rendering work better than while trying to emulate other races? I genuinely curious as to how realistic black characters in general can look in terms of skin shader and lighting. It hit me while playing TLoU and looking at
Henry and Sam
. The same can be said about David Harewood's digital duplicate. It's like a gestalt of multiple rendering processes that work so well for that skin type.

Also:

I think the one difference between the two models in these stills at least is the shape of the scarf. The new one looks to adhere to the silhouette of Helghast sniper whereas the old one acts like regular fabric:

While they both look great and yet remain to be finished this post is so full of it...

The faces look way better than I expected. I am not a fan of the shading along the creased clothes though. It needs to be way more subtle. I've had this problem with the KZ:SF models ever since the reveal trailer.

"I think I’d rather be an uglyish looking person than a beautiful one, as how often do you have to look at yourself?

If you’re quite ugly and you’re sat facing someone who is pretty at work, who’s got the better deal?"

- Karl Pilkington

I think darker skin tones benefit from certain lighting, it illuminates the pores and imperfections better than it would on pale skin

I will say this: if GG can't nail the quailty of those character renders in the final game, I'll still have hope that they can pull it off in their new IP - the western RPG. This is the game they'll learn on.

The more I look at them, the more they look like target renders. It reminds me of the helghast render they showed in that one tech presentation - the one they were hoping to hit in the final game.

Anyone else just tired of target renders? I would rather just see what they've got, then see the goal...

They aren't targeting renders. The game director already confirmed that they're ingame models.

Oh I believe that for sure, I've never doubted GG on the graphics front. I should have been a bit more specific in saying "Target renders in general". I just don't like people showing me what they hope to accomplish, it's just weird.

But he said we would see that they're ingame models based on the teaser video.

They are not the same models we see in the teaser video. No way. They don't look the same.

FYI: I would love to be wrong about this.

How are they not the same? Here's an image of Echo from the teaser

Like I pointed out earlier, you can even see the angular pipe in the exact same spot as the official screens.

I dont get it, why is the chick saying she/they will protect their home? Vekta is not their home of origin. Story seems really lame so far.

Also those in game models are that amazing? Really? Hello its Next gen? This is what its expected, atleast from PS4, from me.

Edit: oops, CoolCat beat me to the story.

Unfortunately GG never told the story very well through the game but the Helghan corporation actually founded Vekta before the ISA came along and took it from them.

Holy Shit.

Two elegant words sums up my reaction to all of this.

David Estes
Ridiculously good characters (even if this is strictly limited to cutscenes, wow)
Echo looking cool as shit (please make her playable)
Jamie Gray Hyder just.... damn.

Unfortunately, I've fallen asleep twice to Shadow Fall gameplay videos so the game doesn't have much draw for me. Still, if GG is doing things like this I can't wait to see what Naughty Dog or other skilled devs bring to the table.

I just thought I'd post this little tidbit in here since it's not worth it's own thread. A few people were concerned about the ability to scan through walls but I think this is a pretty clever solution to abusing that and I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else.

Pushing up on the d-pad launches a sonar radar which allows you to temporarily observe the patterns of your enemies. This enables you to adopt a prone position and sneak through the environments, offing antagonists with melee attacks. However, holding the button down for too long causes the gizmo to overheat, attracting the attention of the Helghast, and squandering your cover. As such, there is a very deliberate danger associated with assuming a muted approach.

I think by prone they just mean crouching but this explains what the bar at the bottom of the screen in the demo was when the player was scanning.

there is alot of KZ lore that is sadly hidden away in their games but I'd advice you to read this thread:

to get up to speed... seeing how they wish to incorporate Helghan mythos in Shadow Fall I really hope we see ruins of the previous helghan colony that lived in Vekta along time ago

Dude, that is not the same model in that teaser trailer. The new images released today look way more detailed.
She looks the same. He doesn't.

The Echo character model in the teaser is in the same lighting and background as the newer Helghast models were shown at E3, separate from any footage. The area the models were in was just the general lighting viewer they have to test lights and models. The cutscene footage of him was probably from an older build and they just put a quick shot in of the newer Echo model at the end since it looks so cool.

It's the same model with different lighting (provided the iris' colour is unchanged).

Really? Ok.

Well the lighting they use in the teaser trailer looks terrible. It undercuts all the detail we see in the new images released today.

I hope you're right. He looks current gen in the teaser trailer. The model in the new image from the lighting viewer SCREAMS next-gen!

I don't think it's the same. Look at the collar of his shirt. It's got two layers in the shots from today and just one in the teaser. Unless the lighting in the teaser is just that bad and washed out, I think the new shots are an improved model.

Man, I'm excited for this but I finally started KZ3 today and I'm not enjoying this nearly as much as I enjoyed 2 when it came out. Maybe it's because I'm older now, but the writing and acting is pretty bad. I also miss the heavy feel, this one feels like I'm the flash when I'm running around. Not a fan. :/ I'll stick with it and finish the campaign, but I'm hoping this is more KZ2 than 3.
