Killzone: Shadow Fall DLC multiplayer maps will be free

Is this playable on the showfloor? We need to see a match or two. We all know it'll look stunning, I'm more interested in the mechanics/weight/how it plays compared to KZ2/3.

I'm not much of an online player but this is how it should have always been on the current generation consoles. Selling maps was always a stupid idea because it fragmented the community.
Prior to current gen consoles, PC games always had free maps released.

Wait, no grinding? So we can all just play the damn game the way we want from the moment we turn it on? Its like I'm in the 90's again.

Absolutely.

What happened to the days of "experience" making you a BETTER MORE SKILLED PLAYER rather than experience leading to unlocks which gives you an advantage?

Absolutely hate that garbage in MP games. I don't have the time to grind.

That is also why I loved games like Warhawk. A first-time player has all the opportunities in-game as a 1000 hour veteran, only their experience and abilities separate them.

I was already sold after seeing the UI video from the conference that showed the multiplayer.

That free DLC is just icing on this next gen cake.
Delicious.

There were a couple unlocks that would put you at a disadvantage in Battlefield but not that many. For the most part, your starting equipment is pretty damn good.

Also, you don't have to 'grind'. Just playing the game generally gets you lots of unlocks. You could, of course, spend time grinding for something specific if you wanted to, but that's your own choice.

Most multiplayer games I've played are far more balanced to start out than people like you like to suggest.

You must not remember before COD, MP didn't have unlocks. It was just... fun.

Battlefield?
Damn i bought and sold that game in a second, was the king of grinding for stuff you have to grind for everything.
I've it "free" on ps+ and cannot bother myself to even boot it again!

The guns and abilities unlocked from the get go make me pretty happy. I think games that hide shit behind 50+ levels lower the skill ceiling.

But...I like the grind :/

I understand your point, you like achieving a goal that's given but why is it not possible for most games to put leveling outside a box that does not affect player skill and not force it down people's throats to get better gear?

To anyone worried about the number of maps at launch. The game has 10 maps at launch which IRC is the same number as KZ2 and KZ3 had.

My biggest wish is that they add variety to the maps like KZ2 had. Pyrrhus Rise was completely different than Blood Gracht. Of course Salamun Market stand above all even on KZ3 (the OG maps for that game were terrible).

This game is old school design in both the single player with its non linear multi objective missions and multiplayer. I really like it.

This was confirmed? That seems alright then.

No paid map packs, no progression system, and a customizable multiplayer experience. Guerilla has built a strong foundation for a healthy competitive community.....in 2013! I can see this being my go to multiplayer shooter for a very long time.

This is a smart move when you consider this is a launch game. When you have a limited player base, the last thing you want to do is cut up that base even further with those who have bought maps and those who haven't.

Oh man... I really hope they nail the multiplayer this time. There has always been potential in this franchise but the MP has suffered from too many problems (e.g. framerate issues, spawn raping, team balancing and some poor maps) which have killed it for me. Really hoping they can pull it off this time and getting the DLC for free is excellent news.

Wait..what all weapons and such from the get go? Damn son, better then expected! And look how you have to grind in BF and CoD to unlock everything.

This is really amazing. Love you fellow guerilla dutchies <3

I really only wanted one FPS at launch but this is shaping up real nicely. Still need to know about mechs, jetpacks and killstreaks. I want them all eradicated.

Battlefield 3 may be the worst one yet. You can't even properly try out different guns, they're all gimped until you grind for basic unlocks.

The grinding in BF3 or CoD are just the worst, the better weapons and even gadgets are at later levels. I hate it,i really do just behind a grinding wheel, now with BF4 there are packs just like Mass Effect 3 with all random things so you will get weapons you don't want or never going to use.

Now that is how you do it. Hope this proves super successful for them and other devs follow suit. I've never paid for a map pack or anything before and don't plan on doing so. Was on the fence about Killzone but the multiplayer stuff shown looked really cool and this makes it even better. Will probably pick it up now.

I like this skill based objectives... and by having all the guns unlocked and later unlocking new skills, attachments, ammo types like that combustion fire shotgun bullets it makes it a fair and also inciting aspect

oh and the map/game mode customization where you can not only change the I.S.A options but also the Helghast separately is very much welcomed

the IGN rewind where they discuss about this increases that

I'm really glad that they take this approach. Sony did the same thing with God of War: Ascension as well, there all the new maps are free. For bigger games like Call of Duty etc. it doesnt really matter because so many people buy the map packs anyway, so there are no shortage of people to play with, but with "smaller" titles, it can matter much more.

"There are over 1500 increasingly difficult challenges to complete in Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to prove your skills and collect rewards."

Nice! :)

This just shows you how ridiculous it is to pay for DLC. Any kind of DLC.

No not really. Any content of significant value created after the game released deserves money.

What this does show is that Sony and their devs are actually seeing good-will gestures win them customers.

Hopefully this starts a trend. Customization options seem nice to. I'm not familiar with Killzone, have they always had this level of options. Definitely something I'm going to have to check out.

I severly doubt it will start a trend.

Do you see EA giving away DLC for free any time soon?
