Killzone: Shadow Fall DLC multiplayer maps will be free

Just like in the single player campaign, Killzone: Shadow Fall’s multiplayer gives you the freedom to play the game exactly how you want. Using the new customizable Warzone features demonstrated in the trailer, you can pick the number of players (4-24), rules, mission modes, classes, abilities and weapons you want to allow in a match, then save these choices as a preset to share with the rest of the Shadow Fall community.
That’s not all, of course – we’ve worked hard to make sure Killzone: Shadow Fall will be a fun, competitive multiplayer experience that’s easy to get into, but difficult to master. There are now eight different rotating mission modes, four of which are new to Killzone: Shadow Fall. The game has three classes with unique abilities and 22 different weapons – all unlocked from the get-go, so you can determine for yourself how and in which order you want to specialize.
We’ve also redesigned our progression system to work with challenges rather than XP. There are over 1500 increasingly difficult challenges to complete in Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to prove your skills and collect rewards. To increase longevity even further, we plan to continue support for the title well after launch – and yes, DLC multiplayer maps will be released free of charge to ensure everyone can play.

Multiplayer map pack DLC should always be free, to avoid splitting the community, which hurts everyone. Its good to see this.

This is the way it should ALWAYS be. When you have DLC maps that you have to pay for you alienate a large part of your customer base.

That's what happened with Killzone 2.

Killzone 2 & 3 had some awesome DLC maps (Loved Beachhead, Southern Hills & Lente Missile Base) but it was so hard to actually get a match on them because so few bought the map packs.

Glad they've solved the issue :D

If this is true its the right way to go, not dividing the fanbase and giving extra incentive to support their games! if they wanna charge for cosmetic stuff thats all fine

That's good news. Paid map DLC always ends up splitting the player base. Uncharted, in particular, suffers a lot from this. IT SHOULD NOT BE DONE.

This is great news, thank you for posting fellow GAFfer.

I might get the game now but I still need to review my Day One purchases for the PS4. Need to be careful with my wallet...

Oh snap, time to go out and support this game for doing this. Even if you're not the biggest FPS fan, a move like this should be applauded. Well done GG!

Cosmetic DLC is ok, just nothing game-breaking please.

Hopefully this is the start of a trend. I fear microtransactions out the ass, though. Make them all visual and we have a deal.

Nobody even plays the DLC with their last 2 games, so I'm damn happy.

Another part of me wonders if they could actually get away with it this gen, considering that they have a wide opportunity to garner a significant audience to stick around.

Or maybe they will get paid from PS+? I wonder how PS+ profits are divided..

I applaud GG for this. Not splitting the userbase will help the community a lot.

I wonder if there will be DLC of another kind, though. I don't mind purely cosmetic stuff.

Nice...can we get some actual MP footage now to go with this great news?
...They just showed some at Gamescom.

Every dev should do this. Fuck $15 cod map packs.

Respawn, please take notes and dont screw the pooch.

Free! This is fantastic news! Given how good the MP screen shots & footage look, plus the additions of bots, free maps is the icing on the cake.

Sounds good to me. It's pretty smart to do this, as the console is in its infancy. There'd be no reason at all to separate players through DLC.
