Was in the paper the other day that Kelly Brook is doing playboy this summer. I'm sure that's welcome news to a lot of you.

That, and she's in Piranha. In 3D. In a wet white t-shirt. In 3D. It will be glorious. In 3D.

I think you are talking about Christina Hendricks, yes?
Ooo! I wouldn't mind seeing Gina Carano do it now that I'm reminded of her by your avatar!

Certainly athletic enough for it, but perhaps a bit too meaty. Has the chest for it, though. :D

I was thinking the same thing. as if Tomb Raider has some place amongst the elite acting opportunities in Hollywood.

Kim isn't actress at all. There is NO need for a movie to star her, ever.

If you want to see her in a tomb raider outfit, fine. I do too. There are things called photoshoots that will get the job done without having to pay 10 dollars to see it, millions to fund and waste 2 hours of your time where only 10 minutes of it is "the good stuff."

Tomb Raider movies are made for entertainment. A movie with Kim Kardashian could never be entertaining. The same would apply for a 007 movie. Yes, having hot chicks in bond movies are a must, but to sacrifice everything else that is potentially entertaining about a bond movie for some TnA is a stupid idea.

Instead of egging on the creation of a new Tomb Raider movie that's nothing more than sexist trash that you can use as fapping material (because lord knows there isn't enough of that out there), how about, oh I don't know, trying to actually DO something with the series? You could have a Lara that is sexy AND respectable, and hopefully a bit more realistic (as in, no beachball tits and no running around jungles in daisy dukes).

There's just so much of a void when it comes to action movies with decent female leads that I'd love to see them actually do something with Lara, a character that could actually go somewhere. Everyone keeps saying "Tomb Raider doesn't need to be anything more than wank-inducing rubbish", but that's because nobody has ever actually tried to make the series serious. Instead, looks like we'll just make the series even trashier than it was before.

Jolie's latest "Salt" movie looks like a pretty serious attempt at the genre with a strong female lead.

...but I don't think it's much of a franchise thing as much as it'll just be a one-off.

That's why this whole Tomb Raider thing kind of bugs me: it could go somewhere. The character is well known, and while yeah, it is basically "female Indiana Jones", you could still do something with that!

Other than Kill Bill, I can't even remember offhand the last decent action movie that had a female lead where she was (a) taken seriously, and (b) not forced to be saddled with a male co-star.

A Tomb Raider franchise should be a huge seller. They could literally copy Indiana Jones and place a nice looking woman in the lead. I think Crystal Skull would have been a better movie as a Tomb Raider movie.

Something is holding it back and I imagine it has to do with the demands for a heroine as impossibly curvy athletic as the videogame character rather than a female equivalent of Indiana Jones.

Kardashian is hot, but no way that body is raiding any tombs!

She and her sisters are bitches. They would arrange dates online with guys with fake profiles and watch/laugh at them when their "date" didn't show.

this thread made me come to the conclusion that kelly brook > kim kardashian. by a pretty big margin.

Point is that Hollywood is only looking for an excuse to put ass and tits in a movie. Since Sarah Connor and Lt Ripley there has been no strong female lead character.

I think right now Kelly Brook, Michelle Rodriguez or Evangeline Lilly would seriously be a good choice for Lara.

But T&A doesn't work by itself. You lose the dating audience and repeat viewers. Otherwise, the first 2 movies would have done better (Ironically, Jolie is much better at action now than she was then) and Barb Wire would have been in the top ten grossers of all time.

They have have a gorgeuos woman play the lead and make a good story. They're going to be spending 150+ million on it anyway, they might as well make it watchable beyond a bunch of horndogs looking for boobies!

EDIT: I love the Evangeline Lilly suggestion. It seems pretty obvious now that I think about it.

I think I agree. She's hot. That's for sure. I would love to see her in any outfit that might be sexy, including a Laura Croft get up.

I think people underestimate the need for an actress though. Sure the roll doesn't call for much, but I highly doubt she'll be able to pull of sophisticated/sexy/classy/dangerous/intelligent like Angelina did. Laura is supposed to be all those things and Kim is only one. The rest of those qualities will seem forced.

I'd just like to say that I quite enjoyed the first two Tomb Raider movies.

Angelina will be a tough act for anyone to follow. She actually could act, looked great and worked hard at all the athletic stuff. She did good.

I also like the games, which seem to get a lot of unnecessary hate from people around here.

Dear People of Earth,

Please continue to reward the antics of stupid rich people with no talent who want to be famous so badly that they will appear in home made porn films and self-release them.

THE KARDASSIAN EMPIRE HAS SPOKEN

Evangeline would make a pretty damn kickass Lara. Her body tone is amazing and she has some fire in her eyes.

That and Lost has shown us she can look hot without 3 tons of make-up on her face. As opposed to Kardashian.

ugh! wtf man! why would you suggest that buck-tooth wench!?

I don't think Kate would make a good Lara Croft. How would she make her way from the Himalayas to the Marvelverse to have sex with Sawyer?

Your point (and mine) still stands, though: Hollywood is absolutely terrible about creating quality female lead characters.

No, Hollywood is bad at putting quality female leads in ACTION movies, cause the concept of putting female leads in action based entertainment is stupid and immature - be it female leads for the sake of a male audience's visual pleasure or female leads that emit more testosterone than rambo. That shit belongs in games and comic books.

Yes, there are movies like Alien that do a great job at selling female actresses as physically tough like a man's man with boobs, but if you want to find movies with great female actresses acting like real women playing great leads or co-leads then go watch a movie with Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Maggie Gylenhal, even Charlize Theron lately, etc.

Doing what Ridley Scott did with Ripley right is tough. Same applies to Kill Bill and Quarantino. It can be pulled off, but it takes a lot of talent from the director, the actress, the screenplay, etc... but having a good female lead at like a real strong female from planet earth has actually been a strength of hollywood since the 40's.

It's not like there's much of a franchise left to protect.

That doesn't mean that they should stoop as low as to get Kardashian to play Lara. If they're running low on cash then they should just get one of the Lara models to play her. Sure they aren't as well known as Kardashian but it's not like they're going to sell tickets because she's in it. She's in no way a selling point.

Wasn't Lara Croft created by developers looking for an excuse to put ass and tits in a videogame? Seems like Kim fits pretty well in this scenario.
