I love these "Man, Hollywood" posts as if Hollywood didn't give you this bullshit to wrongheadedly exalt in the first fuckin place.

It's KINDERGARTEN COP for fuck's sake.

This fake cranky-old man shit is tired. You guys aren't even old enough to actually remember a "Hollywood" that ever acted the way you guys think it did.

Yeah, that! Personally speaking, I never found Kindergarten Cop that great of a movie to begin with. Sure, it had quotable scenes, but it's not some comedic gold people seem to praise it for. Seeing people going crazy over this is like seeing someone throw a fit over remaking "Cop and a Half", "Turner & Hooch" or "Funny Farm".

You could argue that the 90s were the last time Hollywood execs let creativity slip trough. I mean, Verhoeven still got budgets.

Can't wait to see them cast Dominic Cooper as sanjit in "brown face" with an apu accent

Actually nah it's not a serious role, it will be Aziz ansari

Why not make it a sequel with Arnold? All the kids grew up and went to school together and Arnie just kept teaching them life lessons like Mr. Feeny.

Except they're fighting the mob or something

The leading cop with will be paired with an Indian sidekick named Sanjit. Instead of hunting down a criminal’s ex-wife, it’s tracking down a lost flash drive…that finds its way to a kids’ classroom. Hilarity will likely ensue.

Sure it will.

Jesus Christ. Is this fucking serious???

As long as Larry the Cable Guy takes Arnold's place as the lead in the same way he did for Jingle All the Way 2, I'm in. :p

What's with the surge of remakes and sequels of old films in Hollywood?

You get what you pay for.

Jurassic World outperformed even the most optimistic of forecasts with an $82.8M Friday, the third best Friday opening on record, with only Age of Ultron ($84.4M) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 ($91M) still ahead of it.

Universal, who was playing it cool with estimates of $100M for the weekend, are now putting the three-day total at an astonishing $181.4M. Some reports are even putting it higher, at $192.7.

If we stay with the studio's $181.4M that's still the third biggest opening weekend of all time only behind Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.2M) and Marvel's The Avengers ($207.4).

Who is my daddy and what does he do?

Why are they even considering this to be a remake with that plot? Original is such a great feel good movie, wish they still made them like they did back then.

what is left to remake?

Coming to America, Big, Home Alone, Hunt for Red October, City Slickers, A Few Good Men, The Bodyguard, Mrs. Doubtfire, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, Speed, Interview with a Vampire, True Lies, Men in Black...

Remakes have a built-in audience most of the time. As long as they're decent, they'll probably break even. Best case scenario, you get a Karate Kid or 21 Jump Street and everyone's happy.

If a Turner & Hooch remake were announced, I'd be livid.

Half of the reason, if not more than half, this film is so amazing is because of Arnold. His acting, his accent speaking the lines, all of that. Can you imagine KC without Arnold? Just someone else playing the exact same role, reciting the same lines? The movie wouldn't be remembered by anyone at all. I can't even imagine a reboot of this one. Who in the world could they get to do the same thing like Arnold did to make it even remotely memorable?

This one is going to be one of those 0%-25% RT rated trash c level comedies. It can't be anything more without the Arnold factor.

You seriously think that there are equal amount of original IPs as 30 years ago? 40?
Making a remake of a movie based on a book is way different than remaking a movie that came not too long ago! That the problem people have.

Yes.

It's not that "new shit isn't being made" because obviously it is. It's that people refuse to acknowledge its existence without having it shoved down their throat via aggressive, targeted marketing first.

So what if Kindergarten Cop gets remade. It's an average ass family comedy.

You could argue that the 90s were the last time Hollywood execs let creativity slip trough.

It'd be a bad argument, though.

And it's not as if people in the '90s weren't bemoaning how intellectually barren and bereft the cinema had gotten, either. "Oh my god, they're making Mario Bros & Flintstones movies. There's a Car 54 movie coming out? What has become of the movie industry?" Difference being in the '90s it was actual old people turning their liver spots seven shades of red in righteous anger. Now it's a bunch of twentysomethings acting like the mere concept of remaking Little Vampires is an affront to God, the Father, and Jonathan Lipnicki.

I predict Kevin hart gets a role in this. After it a box office success they will redo his entire catalog. Wait haven't they already done a Conan and Total Recall remake

In other words, it'll be another Total Recall. Arnold films were great because of Arnold. That said, the one movie of his I'd like to see remade is Running Man. Only because I think it was very poorly directed, while having some potential. All the other stuff is driven by everyone's favorite Austrian. PEACE.

Yup. People act like this is a new thing. It's easy to let nostalgia cloud the way things are remembered. Hell in the 90s there was a fucking FLOOD of shitty remakes of old 50s and 60s TV shows. This shit goes in cycles a lot more than people want to remember. 20 years from now some 30 year old is going to be arguing about how awesome the 2010s were for movies and tv because all he's going to remember is the great stuff.

I like how they're at least changing it up, but it has a moutain to climb in my mind. A Back To The Future remake will come in the next couple of years, I know it.

Seems like a weird remake. I mean, Arnold and his accent really make the movie. Having the rock or whoever they cast in this thing say "its not a tumor" just isn't going to be as funny or memorable.

The whole novelty of Kindergarten Cop was 'big action star does action-comedy in which he kind of shows a soft side' (even if Arnie had already done comedy with Twins two years prior). I'm not sure who they can cast who might be able to show a side of himself not previously seen. Maybe Statham?
