You don't need to use it. You can use the left side of a standard controller (DS3/6XS) for the left hand.acm2000 said:most games shown seem to use it tho, or worse, 2 moves per player

Baki said::lol I love these price comparisons.
To be fair though, Kinect does not have Navigation controls nor is the Navi a required feature of the MOVE.
So actual price comparison is:
$149.98 = Two MOVE controllers and a Game. (2 players)
$149.99 for just Kinect (or 2 players).
Because Microsoft did a good job at promoting this thing?Tom Penny said:If the price is so high why is there interest on Amazon?

Microsoft is buying all those Kinects on Amazon. :lolTom Penny said:If the price is so high why is there interest on Amazon?
Clear said:Anyone else find it amusingly ironic that the arguments about long-term cost versus buy-in cost for Kinect v. Move are a mirror of their parent platform's pricing strategy at launch.
You know, PS3 = high buy-in cost but comprehensive feature-set, versus 360's buy add-ons to match features later, after starting from a more modestly priced base-unit.
It may be good at tracking large body/limb movements, but I have seen nothing to indicate the ability to track smaller, more subtle hand and wrist movements.derFeef said:The precision is there, look at that fitness game. manueldelalas said:I think $99 with a game is expensive for this thing (2 shitty cameras + 4 mics??), I'm sure the actual cost of camera + game is below $50.
This is a marketing strategy to reveal the price at $99 and people will think it's cheap.
I predict failure. Miserable failure
If $150 is the real deal then no need for a price drop, you can already buy a Wii for $159.BorkBork said:I would laugh my ass off if Nintendo throws a price cut in this holiday season to make the Wii the same price as Kinect.
So casuals would have to spend another $50 to video chat like it is being marketed on the videos??? One would assume that feature be standard/free ffs...:lolZombie James said:Sweet, Gold-only features, too.
infinityBCRT said:I think the technology might just not be good enough in this thing. It runs at 480p 30fps. I've gotta think you need a 720p 60fps camera at the very least (1080p 120fps would be ideal but expensive) to have a lag free and accurate motion sensor.

Probably have to blame the IR camera data for using up some of the cable's bandwidth.Alx said:There just not enough bandwidth for higher resolution or framerate.

They both say that, and the statistics didn't change once it was done. =PWazzim said:It says CALIBRATING IN PROGRESS >______>

Sure about that? Didn't they both go to 5,7" after calibration?expy said:They both say that, and the statistics didn't change once it was done. =P

Why can't we just use controllers?

Maybe she wasn't standing up straight in the ubisoft demo. Could be a lot of things.
What isn't arguable is the price. Fuck $150. I'll check it out when it gets clearanced around next September.
Alx said:Precision in height measurement will depend a lot from the distance to the camera... the further you are, the less precise it is. The difference observed in the Ubi demo may be explained by that.
Anyway the important thing is more depth precision, and the silhouette was just as defined in both cases.
Hellsing321 said:Wow. All Nintendo needs to do is drop the price of the Wii $50 this fall and Kinect is dead in the water.
I guess compression wouldn't be an option unless the 360 hardware was built with it in mind.Alx said:You would need a better connexion than USB2 to allow that, though...
I think the max bandwidth of USB2 is 480 Mb/s
Quick estimation (if data is uncompressed and depth is 8 bits) :
RGB + depth camera @ 30fps = (3*8 + 1*8)*640*480*30 = 300 Mb/s
There's not enough bandwidth for higher resolution or framerate.
