King Arthur 2 is totally underrated and you should probably buy it!

I will now convince you to play King Arthur 2 and buy it in an instant (when the next Steam Sale occurs).

First lets get some Questions out of the way:

I played KA1 and the game turned insanely hard in the middle of the campaign, is it the same in this game?
- As far as I can tell, NO. It is still a quite challenging game but nothing stupid like in KA1 happens where suddenly 10 ultra strong armies spawn and overrun you.
- It is overall a bit easier and has 3 difficult levels

I never played KA, why should I?
- The setting is in medieval Britannia with heavy fantasy influence. Knights of the Round, Merlin, Ghosts, Angels, Devils, everything you can wish for is there.
- And magic of course
- And awesome Knights
- Medieval Fantasy Britannia!

What is this game?
- It is a mix of RPG and RTS.
- The RTS part is equal to the TOTAL WAR series. You have world map where you can upgrade your Castles and Villages (only basic stuff, not as complex as Total War). The battles play the same but with being able to cast magic and some "objectives" on each map that give certain bonuses
- The RPG part is that you have hero units that join you in battle. They are insanly strong and you can level them up and equip them with items!
- Some quests play like a text adventure game with nicely narrated stories and many choices.

Well, what else?

Still not convinced? I will let Screenshots talk (all taken by me, not MAX settings -> game can look even prettier!!):

Well, you haven't convinced me to buy it - but you may well have persuaded me to play the bloody thing.

I remember really enjoying the demo for King Arthur & I picked up pretty much everything in the series in a bundle at some point. Problem was, I hit that mid-game difficulty spike that you mentioned, got disheartened, gave up & never even attempted the (supposedly inferior) sequel. Maybe it's time to give it a shot.

Many people call it inferior because they took out much of the Kingdom Managemt. I don't mind it that much, because it wasn't very good in the frist game anyways.
You get a little less free choices in this game, but it is much more focused and better balance as an exchange.
For me it is more fun overall because it feels more like an RPG with an interesting battle system.

I sort of remember this game getting decent impressions back then, never played it though. Could you expand on the campaign structure? Is it purely player driven as in Total War, or is there a story pushing you forward? Is there a lot of variety in how battles play out?

It is actually pretty linear and story driven. You have some sidequests to do, but other than that it is mostly story stuff.
Battles play out differently depending on your Hero/Army setup. For example I have one army with mostly melee/cavalry units and I am pretty agressive in my playstyle. My other army has 3 mage heroes, many Archers and some defensive heavy units to block enemy charges. So it is all up to you pretty much. The game gets more interesting as the story develops because you get more units and more varied units. I guess the later Tier units (Angels, Demons, Giants, etc.) will change the playstyle a bit.

How is the AI? I know in the Total War games the AI sometimes just breaks and even when working right is no match for a human.

All I remember of the first one was that it ran like shit on my PC. Pretty sure it was locked to 30fps or something and didn't have v-sync. If the second runs better I might get it.

The AI is okay. I haven't seen major stupid thing from them.

It runs pretty good on my 4-5 year old PC.
