Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days new trailer

Yeah, that was my first impression, but I wasn't sure.

Eh, I have nothing to base it on, other than that being the most likely possibility from what we know.

At the same time one can easily say that it's pretty much anybody who would be running around in a cloak that Mickey doesn't know or expect to see (and that's a pretty large number by that point chronologically).

I can't wait to play this game and the PSP version. I never played the first two,
I didn't have a PS2, only owned a Gamecube last gen
but I did play the GBA version and I liked it.

Nah actually we do know. BbS has been playable at both DK3713 and TGS. It's by no means "marginally" better because there are tons of new systems and special skills for each of the 3 playable characters, and it actually has new enemies in the form of Unbirth. KH DS is just the same recycled stuff like KH CoM was. Old worlds, old enemies, etc.

Actually, it looked like there would be new enemies. Also, I wouldn't say KH DS is the "same recycled stuff". Granted, we will probably play some familiar areas, but we've never played a character aside from Sora, some Riku and a little Roxas. Besides, one probably could argue that KH2 was the same recycled stuff in terms of worlds and enemies from Kingdom Hearts 1. Chain of Memories was, for the most part, the same as KH1, but 358/2 Days looks very new.

You really should play the other games. Seriously. It pretty much sets up for everything else. From the looks of things the portables will be fun experiences from just a gameplay standpoint, but you have no idea how much you're missing from not playing the first two games. Getting a PS2 plus those two games and a memory card will cost you about $180, and you can rent the two games or buy them used instead cutting the cost by $20-$30.

Really, this is exactly what I did, and after playing those two games I ended up getting a few more, like Persona 3 and 4, but that was my main motivation.

I'm going to have to get a hold of a PSP for BbS...hopefully one of my friends can lend me his.

And you've just reminded me that Re:CoM is releasing next month...

Well right now I actually don't have time to play the 2 cause of Gears and Banjo, but I'll try to get a PS2 with these 2 games if I can.

How does KH DS look "very new"? There are NO new worlds. Every single world is from KH or KH2. There are also no new regular enemies. There might be new bosses. How that's different from KH CoM? KH CoM used worlds from KH1, and had new bosses (Org XIII), and a new area (Castle Oblivion), and there's an entire Riku path. In KH DS you play as Roxas, and all the worlds are recycled, there are no new areas, and there might be new bosses. KH2 is not the same recycled stuff because there are BRAND NEW WORLDS. THat's my quantifier for what's new in KH or not. BbS has brand new worlds, this does not.

KH DS adds more to the story involving Organization XIII including the addition of a new character. There's also the new multiplayer mode which allows you to play other Organization members. So, there isn't a lot, but I think there's enough to look forward to this title. Plus, I'm sick of playing as Sora, so it will also be a refreshing change.

I didn't say there's no reason to look forward to the title. I liked KH CoM too. You just can't pretend the game is something it's not though.

0_o how much can the DS card hold? look to be alot of cut scenes cant wait for this

256MB seems to be biggest card size right now. I believe it should be possible Nintendo increase them, if bigger size card become cheaper I would think.

But I don't have a DS.......
Or a PSP....
or even a PS3 for that matter.
I've only played the PS2 games, so I'm a little confused.

But the hooded chick is totally Kairi.
.. did anyone confirm that yet?

It's
Xion, who is most likely the Nobody of Aqua from Birth by Sleep (the PSP game)

*sigh* I'm so lost.
Is there anywhere where I can read about what I've been missing, from the games that aren't on PS2?

I'm not pretending the game is something that it's not. I suppose "very new" was a bit of a hyperbole, but I think there's enough to make this seem quite new.

Uh, there's only been one game off the PS2, the essentially inconsequential (in every way*) KH: Chain of Memories.

The PS2 remake of that is coming to the US (separate from Final Mix+, which won't be making the trip), Wikipedia or GameFAQs (check for a script) should give you all the info you need in text format, and there's even a Let's Play of it you can look at to enjoy the nice spritework (once of the few good things about the game). GameFAQs (and probably Wikipedia) should also have relevant information in the FAQs for the KH Final Mix releases, although there's truly nothing plot-critical in the extras other than some shallow teasers.

Unless you count the cellphone games, and none of them have been meaningful until the upcoming KH: Coded, which probably won't be meaningful either.

Anybody talking about Xion (who Wikipedia says isn't Namine) or any of the characters in Birth by Sleep is only working with various interviews and scans from Japanese magazines to cobble together what will actually be told in the PSP and DS games, which aren't out yet. The story information you think you're missing will either be in those games or will be totally negligible.

(*And I really like the game!)

The only things confirmed is that the character is Xion, and everyone is going around the story trying to figure out who she is and why she looks like Kairi. I believe that the 358 part of the title references the number of days Xion and Roxas are in the organization, and the '/2' references the fact that this story is about the two of them, and how they each left around the same time.

In Birth by Sleep, the game is confirmed to be about three characters, origins mostly unknown, that appeared in the same named secret ending trailer in KH2

As for Chain of Memories, I personally consider it very important to the story, or at the very least a very large prologue. Half of the antagonists in KH2 are defeated/killed in CoM, and it explains why Sora is in the position he's in at the start of KH2.

Chain of Memories also had a better-written plot and better villain characters than KH1 or KH2. Much more actual intrigue, much less ridiculous identity switching.

They're making Chain of memories for PS2?
I thought that wasn't coming to America!
And why would they bring that one here and not KH2: FM+?

I agree. After playing KH:CoM, the storytelling in KH2 seemed so dull...

They either like taunting us, or they think that their creations are far too good for us Americans.

Those who didn't play CoM will be detached from the initial plot of KH2.

Yeah, it was indeed a bit confusing.
Where did the stasis pod come from?
who the hell is Nominé?
so many questions, so little answers.
I'm still a little fuzzy on the details.

CoM for PS2 this christmas.
Finally I can make sense of all this shit.

It doesn't even make sense.
Both KH1&2 FM+ would sell like hot cakes.
Do they not want our monies?
Is it not good enough for them?

Localization costs quite a bit when it involves bringing back a whole cast - moreso in the case of Kingdom Hearts where Disney gets a bunch of celebrity voices. I still don't think that's a good reason not to bring the Final Mixes over to North America (or the Final Fantasy International versions) but there you go.

Yay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that.

I <3 CoM.

Glad you agree, but I really couldn't stomach the CoM gameplay :( grinding for door cards really sucked, and so did grinding for a good deck. Riku's final deck was plenty of fun to play with, though, despite being a bit too simple. Still, it easily had the best and most interesting villains in the series, which made KH2 a disappointment when the villains had neither the intrigue of CoM or the charisma of Ansem from KH1.

No doubt. Compared to CoM, they really dropped the ball on Org XIII in KHII. Hell, just the story and pacing in general was a huge disappointment. CoM may not have been nearly as epic, but the story and characters left a much stronger impression on me.

In spite of that, I'm still deeply attached to this series. The premise of 358/2 intrigues me greatly.

I'm pretty sure Final Mix+ for Kingdom Hearts 2 has the English voice track. They would just have to change the menus and subtitles to English.

It doesn't, or else all the importers wouldn't have had to put up videos with english subtitles.

Late to the "I stand corrected" party.

I didn't know anything about gameplay specifics, I just remember the PSP version of the game looking better, and having a better framerate, but not AMAZINGLY better in terms of character models during gameplay, from the closed theater presentation anyway.

Dude, if they just added subtitles and translated the menus.
I'd be happy with that.
It's better than nothing.
I always watch sub'd anime's anyway.

Has nobody posted the Jump tidbits announcing that a Kingdom Hearts Edition that includes the new Nintendo DSi and the game will be released in Japan. The included DSi will have an original design of some form.

Besides it was confirmed, or reconfirmed in the magazine that the game is coming out in February 2009, no exact day yet or pricing confirmed tho.

I'm guessing he's referring to the new cut scenes which only have audible dialogue when you switch the language to Japanese. (a normal playthrough only has subtitles, no audio)

If they were concerned about dubbing those scenes, it wouldn't take much effort, just have like the janitor or someone voice Roxas and you're set.
