Kingdom Hearts Union trailer

I love Drakengard/NieR, but that title honestly belongs to that franchise rather than Kingdom Hearts. KH at least makes sure that you can follow the story by simply buying the games while Drakengard/NieR have so many side materials that tie into crucial plot points of the games that it's not even funny. The best part about this is that you are mostly out of luck if you don't speak Japanese as these materials are usually not translated.

Most of the stuff is actually translated in the drakengard/nier verse. There's nothing hard to get about Drakengard 1, 2, or 3 (aside from the manga side stories because whewww boy) and nier has had its shortstories and the like translated for a while now (the drama cds too for the most part)

Kh got that time travel shit that makes my head hurt and it's even more convoluted than 'androids jump through timelines'

yeah but E3 2015 had FF7R announced, he usually goes to E3 when a game he is working on gets announced

that's why i was questioning
Yeah you're right. But I think the company will find it worth sending him there to discuss big updates for both FFVIIR and KH3. Maybe I'm wrong tho.

Y'all can cut it, I have several of the games in different platforms (PS2, GB, PSP, PS3 and recently PS4 too). The only ones I've never played on their original platforms were KH3D and this X thingy.

That they made recently a full collection for the PS4 (and a few years before 2 collections for the PS3 too) is besides the point nor does it serve as an escuse for the way they developed the overall series.

They started out on the PS2, branched out to the handhelds for years on end, then to PC/Mobile and the only thing home console owners got were compilations well, WELL, after the fact. Many of those games added not only to the lore (which is fine and expected tbh) but advanced the actual plot even more (which was the not "okay" part IMO).

If the series remains relatively "niche" (slightly more than 21 million sales overall, with KH1 and KH2 having 5+million sales each, if I'm not mistaken) in appeal it's entirely due to their asinine decision to have the actual plot jump around platforms (having games on other platforms isn't a sin, but to move the story that way was).

You cannot develop a "saga" or global story arc by forcing people to jump around like that, which is why until very recently it was a hard series to follow (and to a degree it still is, I still see people confuse on the order in which to approach the games inside the collections).

What do you wanted them to do? Not make games on other platforms just because some people might get angry about it?

There's absolutely nothing wrong if a handheld game decided to advance and develop the plot even more. There's a lot of people playing these games for the story so nobody wants filler games that bring nothing in the grand scheme of things. There's a reason why no one cares about Re:coded.

People need to let go of this per-conceived notion that only video games released in consoles matter and everything else is not worth their time. The days of handheld games being nothing more than smaller console games with simpler gameplay has been over since the DS and PSP came around.

Kingdom Hearts Unchained felt like the most filler KH game I've ever played, and I played 358/2.

I couldn't even be arsed to finish it. Now there's more? Will it be 95% frippery again?

So as someone who has followed most of the series but not X super closely: there's a scene in the trailer where they're standing in the Keyblade Graveyard. How does that make sense? Doesn't X predate the Keyblade War?

Oh fuck off. You can't have X be the letter X, Cross, Chi and the Roman numeral for 10 all in the same game series. It's just pointlessly confusing.

That's gonna be explained in Union. We have some theories, but nothing stellar yet.

how and why is Ven there? someone spoil me i don't give a shit

The game is supposed to be set in the super duper past, but most of the game is some simulation, and there's a book that has prophecies regarding the future, so this might be a fake Ven.

I'm sure I got one of the more profoundly dumb story points wrong here, so I expect to be corrected.

KHX ends with the Keyblade War and your character getting mysteriously transported to Enchanted Dominion in the present.

Ephemer wasn't present in that conflict so I'm assuming both Skuld and Ven became "unchained" somehow and ended up there with him.

Ven is the Kingdom Hearts equivalent for the 10.000 year old loli stereotype.

I want to hate this, but you're right. He even has the most blatantly fanservicey shot in the series. Congrats to KHX for becoming the first trilogy in the franchise.
If it's for JP why did it load in English for me? Since it's just asking for an email address I went ahead and gave 'em mine.
EDIT: reloaded the site and its back to Japanese. Weird.

Oh wait, it was a different link: https://form3.square-enix.com/a.p/816/

Even has a different logo

KH 1.5+2.5 has a day-1 patch of 5GBs for bug fixes.

Also, has anyone found any info concerning PS4 Pro support? I know it should have it, but I want the specifics.

Speak for yourself. Coded resolved things while adding new things. DDD specifically mentions its more than CoM. lol

I was talking about the fanbase at large. I actually like Re:coded and I'm glad I played it and watched the movie, but let's be honest, the majority of people who call themselves KH fans for some reason don't care about the little things that take place in the handheld games such as Maleficent becoming interested in the Book of Prophecies from KHX.

People need to let go of this per-conceived notion that only video games released in consoles matter and everything else is not worth their time. The days of handheld games being nothing more than smaller console games with simpler gameplay has been over since the DS and PSP came around.

Read what I wrote more clearly. The issues with the appeal of this series (and this is coming from a fan who jumped in '06 with KH2 as his first game) is that to follow it, until very recently, you had to either:

a) Don't follow it and just read summaries online/watch YT videos (which is what a good chunk, if not the majority, did)
b) Buy/Already own several different platforms to follow the story. GBA, DS, PSP, 3DS and with X also play a PC/mobile game.

Again, the issue isn't that they made games on different platforms. Some of the best gameplay IS on said other platforms (I personally favour Birth by Sleep a lot, some others love the card system in Chains of Memory), and they're (in general) good games too. The issue is that to actively follow the story you had to jump around like crazy, which is something most people don't do. Most people get 1, 2 current gen systems tops (be they home consoles or handhelds)

The best way to avoid all these collections (2 separate collections on the PS3, 1 Mega Pack + 2.8 on the PS4) they have been making, to be sure fans understand what's happening when KH3 eventually arrives, would have been to make the handheld titles in particular multiplat, when possible, or even share a home console version too (again, multiplat if possible).

Instead what we got was a sequence more or less like this: PS2->GBA->PS2->PSP->DS->3DS->PC/Mobile to follow the current saga/arc.

Of course people who jumped in with the PSP/DS/3DS were confused as all hell, especially in the case of those without any acess to a PS2 (or later on a PS3). And I can't blame them. For the longest time the easiest way for any KH fan to keep up was just to watch YT videos, read summaries and go onto dedicated sites.

In my mind the way they went about it was weird and only hurt the franchise more than it helped, even if did produce some good (even great I'd dare say) games because of it. Granted, the PS4 solution at least is a sound one, that's where new fans/old fans that only played 1 or 2 games can/should start (again) going forward.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that following the series used to be more trouble (and money) than it was worth, but at least they managed to rectified that as much as they could by releasing the collections not once but twice.

At this point in time, there's absolutely little reason why people should be complaining about missing games in the series when pretty much everything has been available in a couple of systems for years now. KHUX is the only exception now if you own a PS4, but who seriously doesn't have a smartphone nowadays if they're really interested in giving that a try?

And considering how power creep works, I'm sure anyone picking up the game can easily rush through the story missions is that's all they care about.

I mean yeah, these day's it's much easier. Thankfully. But I was commenting, originally with my first post, on how/why they keep doing it time and time again (spreading the story around). At some point they're gonna do another movie of this X game, calling it now :p

Look. You don't have to watch Rogue One and read Doctor Aphra to enjoy Star Wars. You'll have a more informed enjoyment if you do, though.

You don't have to play Unchained to enjoy KH3. You'll have a more complete understanding if you do.

But Rogue one came waaaaaaaaaay after the trilogy ended. Way after the second trilogy ended.

Unchained/Union/X (meaning Chi in this case) all came/come out before KH3 and have been implied to be important to KH3, just like how Birth By Sleep is important to KH3 because that game will deal with Ven and Aqua and Terra (probably) in some way.

And yeah, they aren't required to play and you could jump in to 3 not knowing about any of this mobile stuff or the 5 clans and the keyblade war and dandelions and Luxu and the magic box etc but they have to be important right? Or why bring them up and then leave the answers to KH3? It's like how you could jump into Mass Effect at ME3 and enjoy a fun shooter/RPG but the characters and plot points will mostly be lost on you because you haven't been there from the start. Except in ME's case the side stuff didn't add super important stuff and the biggest thing it added was a cereal eating failure of an assassin.

I hope someone just makes one YT video of all the story content from the mobile games because I'm way too confused to try and figure out what exactly it is that I need to see and what is available to see now and what is not.

By the way Nomura confirmed on today's concert that KH3 info will be announced in one of the world tour concerts (after Tokyo of course since it's finished)

So people will start guessing which one.. :P

I might go to one of the LA ones. I went to Legend of Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses when they had their concert down here.

Mass Effect Deception isn't canon. You also don't have to read Before the Awakening to enjoy The Force Awakens.
Chain of Memories ended up a lot less important than people expected it to be. I expect that the [chi] subseries will be "important" in the same way: if you played it you'll get some emotional pay off. If you don't, you will still get the core of the story. Unchained is only just now tying into BBS in the latest update

wait, are these stupid animal face masks the new schtick for KH ?

Oh god...At least the org XIII hoodies and robes were #tooedgy but they weren't outright dumb!!!!

Story walkthroughs exist for both [chi] (yes they're translated) and Unchained X. Just skip the gameplay parts.

Could have been worse, John.
