Kirby Developer HAL Laboratory Teases New Projects For 2021

Games, merch and more...

This year marked the 40th anniversary of HAL Laboratory - the Japanese developer behind the long-running series Kirby.

In 2020, it released Kirby Fighters 2 on the Switch and brought across the title Part Time UFO to the hybrid system as well. What's on the horizon for 2021 then?

In an interview with 4Gamer recently, three directors from the company teased new games, merchandise, and even events. Here's the translation from Siliconera (thanks, Oni_Dino):

Tadashi Kawai:

"We at HAL Laboratory will continue to deliver games in 2021 filled with three key values: surprise, fun, and warmth. Thank you very much."

Teruhiko Suzuki:

"In 2021, I want to release another kind of weird game from HAL Egg! And please play Part-Time UFO! It’s a fun game that you’ll absolutely enjoy! Let me know what you think!"

Yumi Todo:

"We’ll keep working hard on our goal in 2021. That is, for as many people as possible to enjoy Kirby [games]. We have plans not only for games but also for merchandise, books, and a variety of events like with the Kirby Cafe. We hope you’ll continue to support both Kirby and HAL Laboratory in 2021!"

Give me 3D DK, please. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I absolutely DK64 as a kid.

Robobot was legit. Probably my favorite Kirby game. I'm hoping for another formula-bending Kirby such as Canvas Curse or Mass Attack, personally. Isometric Kirby platformer in 3D could be cool.

Heck, I'd even take a Kirby spinoff in the puzzle genre.

Yeah, Robobot was really good. I hope for a 3D Kirby game. They kinda, sorta, maybe(?), hopefully teased it during the final boss fight in Kirby: Star Allies.

A new Kirby game was listed for the 2nd half of 2021 on that Nintendo leak from last year. So far Kirby and Pokémon Snap have been accurately listed. I thought it was fake, but this just adds to its credibility.
