Kojima says MGS4 coming out in 2006!!

Wow. I'm unbelievably hyped for this game. I'd be shocked if it were out next year, though.

If there were a religion, and all people did was sit around and talk about Hideo Kojima games all day... I'd consider checking it out now and then.

He's excellent at selling his vision (as well as speaking really fucking quickly). I liked how he described the market as going in "two directions" with Rev and PS3.

My only real wonder left is just how much of the game will be controlled from the first-person. Obviously it's how you aim in recent games, but if that's how you moved primarily as well... I'm not sure I'd like it.

It damn near already exists. It's called GAF. ;)

I'll be quite surprised if MGS4 comes out for PS3 in 2006. That would be huge for it (but it wouldn't be ending any console wars ;)

No, it won't. It's a series made for enthusiasts...unlike those extremely casual Ubisoft games (In typical Ubi-style, I hear the next 6 games are scheduled for 2006...so you won't have to suffer through MGS!!). :D

It would certainly end the graphics argument unless MS counter-attacks with something big. However, all three companies have bigger franchises than Metal Gear Solid.

There might be an option for FP movement now to go along with the new 3rd person view. Kojima's said he can't really play FPS due to motion sickness so I don't think it'd be a required part of the game.

I don't think Konami has ever shown a trailer for a MGS game more than one year before the game was to be released. And seeing how the sales of MGS3 have dropped compared to MGS2, I think Konami would want to capitalize on the post-launch period when there's less competition and people are more eager to buy games.

Kojima: - Snake won't die in this game. And this isn't the end of "Metal Gear", I just won't be as involved - but I will of course be the producer in the next games too. As long as the masses wants "Metal Gear", I will continue to make "Metal Gear". But if they no longer want it, that's when I'll no longer make the games.

Kojima: - The reason I said I would not make "Metal Gear 5" myself, is that if I design every aspect of that game too, it'll make an impact on the next game I want to make.

Dagbladet.no: - Is this something you can eloborate a bit more about?

Kojima: - Of course, I can't tell you in detail about what I want to do [with the new game]. I have many ideas that's piled up inside me, but there is this one special idea I've been thinking about for the last two-three years now, and that's the idea I will consentrate on now. And since this is something totally new, I can't ask anyone else to do it for me - this is something I have to make myself. That's why I have to sit down and concentrate on this, and this only.

My guess is that Kojima will do something else after MGS4 and after that make MGS5.

EDIT: There is no way mgs4 is coming in 2006.

Kojima: - I'm not a game producer because I want to make money

In some way, people always work for money.. but I believe Kojima.. he's really an ambitious man.

Obviously if he didn't get paid he couldnt live but I think he's saying he's a game producer to make games, not to make a shitload of money. The money just lets him eat, live, drive to work, etc. People with that attitude tend to end up making a lot of money anyway because his ambition shows through his quality work.

God, this game is so far above anything we've seen yet. I LOVE how they apply the filters so the game doesn't look too clean. If more devs knew how to do this, the Unreal engine could be godly, with no plastic characters.

That would speed up game development considerably. And if MGS4 is out next year, you can bet MS will try to have Halo 3 ready. Though MGS4 is an automatic buy for me and anyone else with a brain ;

Creating games for the sake of creating games.

:)

Kojima has created a great story to tell, and more than anything he wishes to share it with as much people around the world as possible. I'm glad he ended up in the game-industry instead of the movie one, cause with games you can tell stories so much deeper, and you really have the feeling you are lost into the sometimes twisted stories they throw at you. Kojima probably has the same mindset, and I applaud the man for that.

Not many can create something so epic and compelling like Hideo-san.

PS: Yes, he is my new god... :p

BTW, there's actually a video of the interview in the link above

bah, it doesn't look like the video covers the entire interview, just the last 25% or so. From what I've watched his translator never mentioned anything about coming out next year. They didn't get to the part about MGS4 being done entirely on PS3 dev kits.

- I had to use lots of words to show the characters emotion, as the game machines weren't able to show this graphically. Now the technology has evolved so far we can let the characters show their emotions trough facial animation and movement, Hideo Kojima tells Dagbladet.no

So is the "Emotion Engine" a generation too late? :D

Original MGS2 trailer was shown at E3 2000 and the game came out Nov. 2001.

Original MGS3 trailer was shown at E3 2003 and the game came out Nov. 2004.

When I first saw the trailer, and it was an FPS. I was all, "Hot holy fuck. Kojima will make the FPS to own all FPS'."

Then it wasn't. I was sad. Don't get me wrong, I would RATHER he made a true MGS game, but his fake FPS looked unbelieveably good.

Eh? What was so special about the FPS sequence?

Well think about it, it's the idea of the polished gameplay mechanics of a Metal Gear Solid game, but next hardware complete to push forward the warzone scenerio with again the attention to detail that Kojima is reknown for. Combine with the western love of things FPS, well you get the picture.

the dust and bits of paper being blown around, the naturalistic warzone environment, the way the apparent player character breathes heavily and uses cover. i suppose other people might like the squad stuff too. it's a brief sequence with no real action, but it's still pretty neat.

so can we assume:

Original MGS4 trailer was shown at TGS 2005 and the game comes out Feb. 2007? :D

That's still not too bad... although I'm sure Konami would try to push for a holiday release. Regardless, if it did come out in Feb, and the PS3 gets a US launch in Oct/Nov, that's a mere 3 months between US PS3 launch and MGS4. Not too shabby... :)

Yeah you're right not too shabby. I wish that the PS3 would come out in May or June but...
Kojima rules!!

I meant that if they showed a trailer this year, the game would be released no later than the following year.

Even if MGS4 becomes a launch title for the PS3 in North America, I can't see it selling less than MGS3.

It still might (PS3 getting a May/June release in the US), but I'm not planning on it.

Hopefully an official date will be released around X360's launch.

I don't think he's written off the idea of there being a FP option. He's talked about it before

"So, for instance, I assure you that in Metal Gear Solid 4, we're not going to be stubborn and keep that camera view that we had in the trilogy [which Kojima refers to as the bird's eye camera]. I know that this is a trend, the 3D-type [third-person] camera and first-person camera. I'm not going to push [the bird's eye camera] in the gameplay part [of MGS4] because I've been receiving so much feedback that users want the current trend in cameras--it's just what the users [are used to] seeing or watching.... So I'll consider the users' feedback really seriously.

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3142351&did=3

So if you want that style of camera in MGS4, it's probably best to let them know along with the feedback given for MGS4's online mode.

Kojima can say alot of things...........

like MGS2 would be his last Metal Gear game but he's already talking about 5 :D

:lol True. B that's an example of him doing it for fans though. Watch pointed out that if MGS4 is a big hit and fans want Kojima back he'll likely direct MGS5 also.

So if enough fans demand it, he's making MGS5 too? This man needs to take a break from the MGS series and make an original Revolution title. Throw us Nintendo fans a bone, here.. we like Kojima too =)

They can have n-space remake The Twin Snakes for Revolution.

The game is coming out in 2007 people. Case is fuckin closed.

A year after launch. November 2007, same time frame as PS2 launch to MGS2 release.

Given, a game like MGS4's calibur is easily in the 2 to 3 year development range (no way in hell anything less) but it's safe to assume almost a year of development and planning as already been put in the title. We have all of next year and most of 2007.
