Kojima says Phantom Pain will be the last 'Metal Gear Solid'

Well there was Metal Gear, then Metal Gear Solid then(Portable Games) Metal Gear Rising so next will be Metal Gear ???

Seriously, he's been doing this to keep people employed at console games at Konami as far as I'm concerned. It's beyond obvious that he's wanted to do Snatcher/Boktai/etc for years.
 
I really hope this means the final boss in MGSV is Solid Snake...(played by David Hayter) here to foil Big Boss's plans with Metal Gear in Outer Heaven...of course it's a boss fight you're going to have to lose... Or you know: Time Paradox!

I can see how he could end it here actually, if
the game ends with Big Boss becoming the villain and establishing Outer Heaven, or going a little further with the player taking control on Solid Snake and playing MG1 and 2 remade in Fox Engine.

He's in the perfect narrative position to "close the loop" and end the series, it's just a matter of whether or not he'll start a new loop.

I almost believe him this time, for some reason I feel he's really tired of Metal Gear. And that's what makes me even more hyped for Silent Hills.
 
I hope he actually means it this time. Give it a rest and come back in 10 years or so. Focus on Silent Hill and a new IP. Branch out Kojima, your insane ingenuity can work for other games.
 
I don't see anything so impossible about dropping the "Solid", but there's just gonna be a Metal Gear ____ after it so who really cares

Oh He meant just about drops the Solid word. I don't know if MG Diarrhea it's a good idea.

Dude, do you really think that Kojima can chose his own projects?

It's Konami that tells him what to do.
 
If there's two things I expect from the game industry by now, it's the following, repeated every generation, almost like an inside joke or something :

* Moylneux will claim his next game is revolutionary and epic, then it ends up being dissapointing... But the next one will be epic.

* Kojima will claim this is his last Metal Gear game, only to straight up return to work on a sequel the minute the previous game ships, then claiming it's because his team is not ready to do it on their own... Yet he still does all the heavy lifting and does not prepare a sucessor for the next title...

I'd imagine much of his freedom depends on him continuing to make MGS games. What other million sellers does he make? You don't give a guy freedom to make anything if he can only really make one thing you want.
