Kojima talks MGS: Peace Walker and Rising

I'm listening to the Koji-Pro podcast and they did just clarify that there is a full single player experience in PW. I know a lot of people never thought otherwise, but there was some discussion about it after GC. So just thought I'd post.

Ugh, 10+ hours of CGI again confirmed?

I'm excited for Rising, not as much for Peace Walker to be quite honest.

All I needed to know. There was simply no way that they could do justice to MGS3 as a sequel without a full blown single player campaign.

I'll be honestly surprised the day I see you in a thread without utter shit to the side of your username.

Great to hear theres a Single Player coomponent to Peace Walker. I know that'll ease some other gaffers fears and my own!

That's twice you've attacked me in the last 2 weeks.

Putting your bitch ass on ignore. :lol

Some of us like playing games, not watching them. That's why we go to the movies. Can't handle it? Don't discuss it with people who have differing view points. It's a valid concern about a series that's too far up it's own ass to notice when enough is enough. How much CG was in MGS4? Too much. In MGS2? Too much. How long are the transmission calls in this series? Too long.

The gameplay in MGS is fucking solid, and that's why I play it. Not for the story. Complete dribble.

I know I was getting a little worried that it was just going to be a co-op game. Now it's much more appealing. A full single player campaign and another one that's built like PSO/MH. Should add a lot of replay value to it.

Afraid not. According to the podcast, it's co-op in the same campaign.

As for the 'CG', it really depends what you mean. There is about nine hours of non-interactivity in MGS4, about 15 minutes of prerendered in-game cutscenes and no traditional CG I believe.

Hopefully its a proper story campaign and not like MPO+ "Single Player Experience". Big Boss' codec calls have been the series' best to date.

Also will it be Hayter or will it be Doyle! I think brown hair should still mean Hayter and Old Age should mean Doyle.

I am greatly anticipating parachute-evac'ing my first enemy victim into space :lol

Edit: I see permutated is talking (nonsense) about MGS4 (CGI, really?). How wonderful, but we appear to be in a Peace Walker and Rising discussion so whoops.

I wonder if there will be a competitive mode as well, like MGO. That would be quite a package for a PSP game!

I also wonder if other characters will be playable in the coop mode. Obviously everyone wants to be Big Boss, but as long as the multiplayer modes with the 4 Big Bosses are non-canon anyways
RIGHT?! RIGHT?!!?
, they might as well let us play as Solid Snake or Liquid or Raiden or whoever. I mean why not, yeah?

I think Hayter should do it, but he should change the way he does the voice like he did for Old Snake in MGS4. Big Boss is definitely looking older than he did in MGS3, and I think that Hayter would be able to bring that through in his voice acting in a subtle yet meaningful way.

That's more what I meant, I put it incorrectly.

My bad.

Cut scenes, not CGI.

Oh, the coop is just a multiplayer version of the story mode? Weird, that's not what it looked like in the trailers...

As with all the Peace Walker news that's coming out, I can never tell if it's a good thing or a bad thing :lol

another MGS thread of people crying about how long the cut scenes are. You would think people would understand how the series works after four games.

Well in the trailer you did see a lot of environments that we saw Snake in alone in the initial trailer/screens, so it wasn't surprising to me. But I did expect a MH style co-op game.

Yeah, a MH style coop would make more sense since playing through an entire story mode with another person is usually not possible. Sometimes two people just can't sync up their schedules or whatever. Having shorter coop sequences makes much more sense.

Also, I wonder what this means for the game's actual story. I can't wait to see what happens in the "to be continued" trailer at TGS.

bUT i LIKE THE GAMEPLAY SO I CAN SAY WHAT I WANT

sarcasm

PErsonally excited for both titles, although PW seems more compelling to me only because it's closely a part of the mainline story.

God people need to shut the fuck up about the storyline and the cutscenes... it's Metal Gear. You either accept it and buy, or realize that it's not for you and move on. Metal Gear will always have a crazy story, and too much of it at that. That is what the series does and everyone should know this by now. If you don't like it, by all means, abandon the series and stop worrying about it.

I'm picking up both games - probably on day one. I hope Rising explores the universe outside of the Patriots story line and gives us a new kind of stealth action experience. Peace Walker is my sole reason for wanting a PSP.

And I look forward to 20 minute cutscenes featuring Raiden.

As much as I like the cutscenes, and have no issue with their length, and are annoyed by the complaints typically, in this instance I have no problem with people commenting, mainly because both of these games are logical candidates for a cutscene reduction. PW is on portables, and MPO had less than the norm, although it wasn't exactly Kojima. Rising is by another staff, is some what of a fresh start, and cutscenes are always the biggest complaint, the new people would be likely keen to combat this.

Peace Walker is my reason for finally getting a handheld since GB Advance sp. Cant bring myself to wasting money on an xbox, unless it is amazing, then might pick one up on the cheap.

Cutscenes. I can take em or leave em.

I had just as much fun watching the cutscenes in MGS4 as I did playing the game. I didn't even notice until after I played the game and was like, "Huh, there were a lot of cutscenes in this game." I enjoy Metal Gear's story just as much if not more than the gameplay.

This sums up the way i feel about cutscenes, loved just sitting back and enjoying them.

Crossing my fingers for some kind of jumping, running, flipping, wall-climbing, roof to roof stealthiness... and not a ZOE style murder jog. And can we use guns? .. is it Raiden before the events of 4? Is that an exo-skeleton he's wearing since they returned his jacked up body to normal jack up 2 status at the end of 4? ...

Whatever. Can't wait for PW tho... day 1.... i just really ... reeeaaaallly wish it was for the PS3. So badly i can taste a BB game with full game co-op and a DS3 in my hands on a HD tv with MGS4 shooting controls. That woulda been a fuckin star right there. ...

:lol @ "shitty staffs". This should be adopted for when we talk about B/C teams.

Why so little info on Rising? While Peace Walker looks awesome, Rising has an interesting take, but I haven't heard much about it since early June.

10+ hours of CGI is what makes Metal Gear what it is. If you don't like it then don't play it. I'm honestly baffled by people who are still surprised and upset about all the cut scenes. What the fuck else do you expect?

Why would PW have 10+ hour cutscenes.. Didn't Port ops have no more than.. an hour or so.

And regardless, long cutscenes have been a staple of MGS. If you only play the game for the gameplay.. then skip the cutscenes.

But alas, people will complain and moan all the time.

I would also expect Rising to have a truckload of cutscenes as well, mainly due to the fact that it isn't about Snake this time but an entirely different and more mysterious character in Raiden. Game having gone multiplatform as well will probably influence how many cut scenes are in the game (to help those who have never played an MGS game in their lives understand what's going on).

I'm sure Rising will have loads. But I cast my doubts with PW since it's handheld like Port Ops.

So why are you bitching about it in a Metal Gear thread? It just comes across as troll-bait, because you know it is probably never going to change.
