Konami planning something for Castlevania's 25th anniversary.

I couldn't agree more, LoS is right up there with the Uncharted series as being one of my favorite games this gen.

I need to replay it soon. i have only played it once and it didn't really feel like CV to me.

Lords of Shadow is such an interesting product. Not because it's a good game but because it just....radiates mediocrity, it's so forcibly mediocre that it's somehow impressive to behold.

-The completely borrowed game design that feels like it should be fun but plays it so safe that it has no unique/cult appeal and everything is just a little off.

-The extremely excessive length where the game goes on and on and on, overstaying it's welcome several times over but somehow retains unique, appealing assets despite it all.

-The bland, uninteresting, repeat-ey levels that anyone should hate but they're all woven together with gorgeous art direction and just enough impressive set pieces to keep you going.

-The clearly bored and uninterested narration by Patrick Stewart. Booming down like the voice of god but if god was reading you his shopping list for after work when he just woke up.

It's like a genius set out to make the most middling product they could. A sequel would be interesting to see if they could improve it something genuinely great since they have all the tiles in place or to see if they'd continue along their own road to the point where they're putting people into deep sleep comas.

I found your post boring.. but the game, definitely not.

I want the rumored Castlevania Complete Collection (all console games from CV1-SOTN). It was supposed to be Wii/PSP and release around LOS1, I wonder what happened? They could still do it on Wii/3DS/PSPN imo.
... why would they do that when they can sell them individually??

I found it boring too. The Lords of Shadow is awesome. People need to get over the fact that all games borrow from eachother, games continually evolve to better games. Only so often do games revolutionize.

I'd really like to hear something about a follow-up to LoS by Mercury Steam & Kojima Productions. I feel like I'm probably in the minority here, but I really enjoyed LoS... It was flawed, sure, but I felt like the good outweighed the bad. I was disappointed to hear that the DLC were both kind of meh though; I was itching for more after I finished the game and some trials.

Agreed. And hoping we get some such news for the anniversary this week. If not, at least there is still HoD on PSN for me to be had.

Look at the Mega Man collection, and some others. It can be done, and CV is one of the most worthy franchises ready for a collection. And it would be timely with this anniversary, and the new customers recruited via Lords of Shadow. Bring on the CV nostalgia overload, in HD and with added Easter eggs.

I agree with LoS being mediocre. The game certainly looked amazing at points but the combat was dull and a lack of legit platforming is always a deal breaker when it comes to CV for me. Worst of all was the complete disconnect between the narration and in game cutscenes. Gabriel had all this great character development in the narration that was never reflected in the actual story. It made the ending an even bigger joke than it already was. It really could have been a great origin story but the actual impetus for the change was terrible. I had hoped the DLC would have made it work but it just made it worse.

As for the 25th anniversary, I just want Bloodlines on the VC.

I am so surprised to find people that actually like Lords Of Shadows, it has blown my mind!
Here is a little video poking fun about the creation of LoS for those interested

So you say Lords of Shadow, which is a pretty cool action adventure game with some flaws totally sucks 'because'.

But you continue to post some of the worst shit I've ever seen on Youtube drawn by a 5 year old with a script written by someone who got his brain for free from a cereal promotion.

Good luck with that.

Better than I could ever have put it.

All I want is for Konami to get off of their lazy asses and put some effort into a set of HD Actionvanias/Classicvanias (with options for the purist) for XBLA/PSN.

Good choice on listing Aria instead of Dawn. A man after my own heart!

It rewrote the rules, for me at least, on how a Castlevania story should be handled. Dawn felt like more of the same, but with a sort of boring story and some snow added to the levels haha

No Ecclesia? :*(

I'm in the minority on GAF when it comes to Ecclesia, I think. I didn't find it that challenging and felt like the weapon system was merely another extension of the already overused soul system.

There were too many levels where nothing of interest was going on. I liked it, I just didn't love it.

Castlevania might be my favorite franchise. It's a real pity how it's been treated these past few years (and I really like LoS).

EDIT: We never knew how good we had it when a new DS/PSP game was being released every year.

I knew how good we had it. The 20th Anniversary case that came with Portrait of Ruin was in many ways better than the game itself. Those days seem long gone now.

Lords of Shadow was fine as it was it just needed a PC release to fix that framerate. It got under 20fps pretty frequently. The game was really fun despite that though.

Castlevania should've taken the path of Castlevania!
To be honest, is there even a true 3D Castlevania archetype? Or are you saying it should have stayed 2D platformer? :P

A 2D Castlevania is a good Castlevania.

However, a 3D Castlevania that takes inspiration from Metroid Prime (minus First Person) and features a giant castle that can be explored rather freely would be all kinds of awesome if done right.

Please don't do this. You don't need to get insulting with people just because they disagree with you on a game, and he explained his opinions. He wasn't doing a one line drive-by troll. It's okay that you like the game. It's okay that he doesn't. If you want to have an argument with him, tell him what you liked about the game and maybe he'll bite.

Reading comprehension FTW. He just shipped a game called Leedmees for Kinect.

Your assholeness aside, I was more wondering if he was working on anything Castlevania related on the side.

And... Yep. Konami doesn't seem to have anything to show.

Demons Souls, not God of War, is the path 3D Castlevania should have taken, IMO.

you know, i never got all the "zelda should learn from demon's souls" thing (and i love both games), but the more i think about it, castlevania taking from it could really be amazing, both in depth/challenge and artstyle.
if it was a PC game, i could totally see castlevania levels/mods.

Title should of read:

"Konami Planning Nothing for Castlevania's 25th Anniversary."

pretty much this, tragically.
which is funny because i was just thinking: nintendo lazily toss mario all stars on a wii disc, threw in an art book (i think that's the highlight of why i want it, sadly) and called it a day. Konami could so toss 1-4 + SOTN, slap an 80s cover of a beefy dude with a whip and do the same...any GBA/etc titles they put on there past that would be a plus, but boom, $50 for basically rom dumps. i will never understand these missed opportunities.

the fact that the LoS guys are responding instead of konami make things clear: castlevania is done.

also, this. even sega quietly acknowledged the dreamcast's 10 year anniversary; konami proper leaving this one out in the cold is not a great sign for those of us wanting a 3DS/vita igavania, or really, just something from the series.
