Korean Girls Draw A Nude Model

It's always funny thinking back to my first figure drawing class in college. Everybody was a little nervous since none of us had ever drawn from a nude model before. He was a middle-aged man who wasn't circumcised. Since we were a class of 18 and 19 year-olds and it's America, most of the girls (and a few of the guys) in the class had never seen an uncut penis before, and they were fascinated by this guy's turtleneck XD

At that stage in your artistic training, nobody knows how much time they should spend drawing the penis during the live-drawing sessions. Much like in the video, everybody was looking around, whispering to one-another about it - it was pretty hilarious.

Figure drawing class was one of the most relaxing courses during college. Honestly once you get over the nude part and focus on honing your skill, it becomes something else. I've drawn fat, skinny, curvy and people who look like they should be on a runway. Best thing I got out of it was learning to draw the human body in various unique positions. Something you won't get from copying a still image.

I don't think that's true, unless they're some devout religious person or something. Then again I live in a very progressive country where you have nudity in movies for kids.

Norway?

I don't think it has anything to do with religion, though of course, that does contribute to it. These girl in this video must be early-mid 20s, no?

Oh okay, that's pretty interesting. Makes a lot of sense then.

It's not true, at least in the States. Most people watch porn in high school, girls included.

That was hilarious. "Salad man" made me laugh harder than it should have.

Nude modeling is no joke. Its super hard and really takes a lot of strength and concentration. I remember in college during one of my figure drawing classes, one of the students took a picture of a nude model so he could "finish up his drawing later" and it caused a massive uproar, rightfully so. The model was pissed and she almost left the class right afterwards.
Holy crap, that's insane! Did they make them delete the pic off their phone?

I don't know, it was a video I guess. It did lead to this one though:
Koreans Try Whiskey For The First Time

Most of them didn't like it. Of course, the gave them nasty whiskey. Almost none of them liked Jack Daniels, because that shit tastes like floor boards.

Korean girls react to Westerners reacting to Korean girls react to a thing!

saying porn is banned in SK is like saying nudity doesn't exist in America anymore because Playboy stopped producing magazines with nude images.

it's a weird juxtaposition considering the huge amount of love motels that exist (and where keys are dropped off in the elevator instead of reception due to the duration of stay)

That doesn't sound equivalent at all, since the government actually has a role in this. From what I read (people who know more can probably clarify) but you can own it, but distributing porn is not legal at all. Not only that but porn sites are blocked, so the only way you can see some is if you torrent it or some other method like getting japanese porn, which most people probably don't do.

I worked as a nude drawing tutor in uni. Funny to see these grown up women act so embarrassed and immature around a nude body. Is it a Korean thing? Chinese female students (we always have a few of them through an exchange program) don't behave this way. They take it seriously and/or at least manage to hide their embarrassment quite well.
Common sense should also tell you that it's inappropriate and rude towards the model to giggle and make banana jokes. :/

These women aren't actually art students and most probably were actually encouraged to not really take it seriously for the sake of the reaction video.

They're exhibits designed for western titillation.

So annyoing. They really haven't seen a naked man?

E: Watched the whole thing, fair enough, I guess it's "acting".

I really doubt this. I mean, it's designed to be a successfully viral video on the internet, but implying that it's manicured for for "western titillation"? I bet they didn't think about playing to foreign crowds in particular.

That's just the vibe I got from it after discussing the sub-phenomenon with my friend. "Titillation" was the wrong word, a better one would be exoticification? Or maybe playing into East Asian orientalism. As Tyaren alluded to, I can't imagine actual art students giggling like high school girls over a nude model, and I really don't think mainland Koreans would be interested in it either. If you look at Western reacts, it's always X social group reacts to Y cultural phenomenon. But with the Korean girls react it's always something relatively mundane, that's played for laughs, and exaggerates their supposed Korean femininity.

I think you have a point worth investigating. I see where you're coming from.

But as someone who has had intimate access to Korean culture, I think you'd be surprised to the degree that Korean female identity does react to sexual and scandalized content in a pure/naive/innocent/easily scandalized/surprised/shocked manner.

Take your pick of what word works to describe it, but it is the case that a lot of Korean people (women?) would authentically react in the manner of these "Korean women react" videos. And this is in teens, 20s, even 30s....

Depending on how you interpret "a lot". Combining virgins over 21 and women who they've never watched porn, you'd have hundreds of thousands in the US at the minimum.

I actually thought these girls handled it rather well considering.

idk why they are acting so embarrassed. But maybe that's because my first figure drawing class with a nude model happened when I was 14. I always considered doing it for some extra cash, but unfortunately there is a higher demand for females than males, so I never got the chance.

I'm pretty good at drawing things which I'm looking at. Photo reference, model, whatever.

I could never draw on a semi-vertical stand, like that. I need a flat surface. A large book, lap desk, actual desk, table, etc.

Not all porn sites are blocked. They've just blacklisted a bunch. Just think of tumbler as a means of distribution instead of Pornhub (actually xhmaster might be unblocked).

Besides which you only need to visit a subway stall if you want purchase some physical media copy.

It's as much banned as prositution is in the country (which is rampant) and which goes pretty much hand in hand with business deals (but you are not exposed to that as much if you are a foreigner as they will make you exempt).
