Kotaku: Sony And Nintendo, Best Friends Forever

Some people in here are ridiculous. The hate Kotaku gets from here is rather dumb. They don't have the best articles, but there are like 3 new threads per day that someone cites them for.

Just seeing some people so upset that they want to ban the site, or see people fired is just sad.

Personally, I don't want it banned.

They post an article, people are like WTF, and the reply is "Why so serious" when my question is "Well, are you serious? I wouldn't be surprised."

System Memory: 8GB
Video Memory: 2.2 GB

10.2GB of non-unified ram?

I pointed this out to him yesterday and he's going to keep ignoring it when you point it out and blindly keep referring to that article as a way to legitimise his site. (ironically)
His tactic is to jerk off gaf (Gaf is sharp) in an attempt to gain goodwill (instead of earning goodwill like the rest of the world).

In game journalism terms 2.2GB of dedicated memory vs 8GB unified memory = close enough.

These clowns won't voluntarily leave their PR masturbating safety blanket. I say shame on anyone who keeps giving them clicks to feed this behavior.

Connecting handhelds to consoles was done by the GameboyAdvance/GameCube! Nintendo did it! ...But actually it was first done by the dreamcast/NeoGeoPocket.

some of ya'll are needlessly scathing.

if kotaku's gonna say they were spot-on with their PS4 rumors/calls, don't we need to wait to see if the 2 SKU's/prices pan out?

I've also asked just what the joke is in this thread a few times now and it keeps going unanswered.

The joke is Sony & Nintendo are corporations who dislike one another and are referred to as "friends" for glibness, but the example of Sony stealing Remote Play is incorrect.

This article would have worked with the Move launch.

Well, they actually weren't.

I like it here. NeoGAF is sharp. There are of course some people looking for any excuse to get angry, but that's everywhere on the Internet.

Fair point. I suppose you get your fair share of backlash and anger in the comments section of your own website anyway, so here is no different. Any other Kotaku writers on Gaf?

Do not know if the term "Game journalist" apply to the people involved in the media , since it seems most of time is more GAME and less JOURNALIST.

Goodness, I hope not.

In some ways, when Kotaku gets something right, it almost feels like a miracle. It doesn't help that the sardonic tone of the article feels so forced, even if the predictions were correct.

I like Schreier, and maybe Kotaku is slowly getting on the right track. But we really don't need this as news.

Jason seems like a perfectly good writer, if a little eager to defend. It's the likes of Crecente and Bashcraft that I based my opinion of the site upon, I honestly don't extensively read it anymore.

It's pretty sad for journalism that it's gotten to the point that they brag about getting something right. I mean, isn't their job to deliver accurate news?

I guess when you fail so often you have to hold your successes high.

People have suggested banning Kotaku for a lot more reasons than just inaccurate leaks. It's good you guys got a leak right, so a victory lap is well earned. You have every right.

But yeah, I actually read Kotaku unlike a lot of people here, and have for years. There are lots of other issues with it, and specifically with you if you want to get blunt about it. I don't see any reason to get so overconfident when the laundry list of issues with some of your coverage is so long.

It's neat that you comment here and engage the community a lot, but you also play dumb all the time about issues that bother lots of people. The site isn't without merit, and I still check it frequently. But there's also something almost every day that gets under my skin, and I don't think that's an accident at all.

I wish the "Nintendo PlayStation" was actually a thing.

Sony + Nintendo teaming up would have been unstoppable.

I would love if Sony and Nintendo teamed up, huge exclusive line up, and probably almost all third party's on board.

Maybe one day.

Doubt it though

"PR masturbating safety blanket." Yes. Because PR is so pleased that we leaked most of their plans for the PS4 before they had their big event.

As for the RAM, you'll have to pardon my lack of hardcore technical knowledge, but isn't "unified" memory just VRAM + other system RAM? What makes you think this machine doesn't have 2.2 GB of VRAM and 8 GB total RAM?

WTF are they talking about?? They never said PS4 had 8gb of ram. What they said was the PS4 had 8gb of system memory, and 2.2gb of vram, AND a 4core steamroller processor. Which didn't come true. Little did those idiots know, that what they actually had, was specs from an outdated dev kit probably over a year old. According to VGLeaks it was a much older dev kit, that matched up exactly with the specs they had of a much older dev kit. This literally shows how out of touch there sources are. Their sources didn't have have the curtsey to tell them what the specs were coming from OR how outdated they were, OR even worse Kotaku just omitted this info.

They never made the claim that PS4 final spec would be 8gb of unified gddr5 ram and a 8core jaguar cpu. Its basically coincidence that the final unified 8gb of ram ended up matching there, 8gb of system memory, which was also a split memory set up.

Seriously GTFO out Kotaku, you should be banned. Not for being wrong on specs, but trying to take credit for something you never did. Your specs were correct but were outdated dev specs that gave us no info that actually mattered anymore.

damn it's crazy how much gaf attacks you guys like rabid dogs even if guys are right lol

People tend to remember and harp on the negatives. People always like to talk about when we get something wrong, like Final Fantasy Versus XIII being cancelled--which, who knows if we even actually got wrong, because when was the last time you saw Final Fantasy Versus XIII? but that's another can of worms--and rarely when we get something right.

In other words, it's more fun to hate something than it is to love it. I'm just trying to add a little balance.

Square basically confirmed it's not dead with the release of this.

Unified RAM means that there is no "VRAM", there's just RAM, and the CPU and GPU share it however they'd like. This is similar to how the 360 works but in contrast to how the PS3 works, where the RAM is split (256 for the CPU, 256 for the GPU).

I read almost every comment on almost every one of my articles. I read a lot of GAF. I listen to peoples' opinions and feedback, and I consider it, and I use it to get better. I can promise you that I'm not trying to "play dumb" about anything.

Your feedback is often anger at my anger towards Square Enix and my hatred for Final Fantasy XIII. Sometimes you bring up good points. Otherwise you make me sigh. One of our mandates is that we as writers don't hide our opinions. So if you like JRPGs, and you frequent a game site where the person who handles most JRPG coverage doesn't like the JRPGs you like, I understand why you might get peeved. I really do. It's something I keep in mind as I write - not just how you might feel but how all of my readers might feel. But it's my job to be honest about my opinions, not to say what I think you might want to hear.

And this is why you shouldn't be commenting (smugly I might add) about being right on the leaks.
You don't understand what you are saying or why what you are saying is wrong.
I'm not going to spell it out for you, you are the journalist, do your research next time.
I suggest you just stop posting, you make yourself look bad and I'm going to end up banned for mocking you as I have little patience or tact when it comes to these things.

Humour section of Kotaku you say?

...

What was the joke again?

That he thinks Nintendo invented remote play and motion controls, I guess. Even though Sony had move working with the EyeToy in like 1999-2000, and Remote Play was a feature of PSP/PS3. See, it's funny to be ignorant of gaming history!
