KOTOR Collection (1 + 2) coming out soon on PC

weird timing to release these with no improvements. unless kotor 3 is going to be announced. Would love for it to be developed by bioware just for the epic implosion and tears on gaf :D

If they patch in controller usage, I'll be buying this for sure.

...okay, I'll buy it to have KOTOR 2 on PC regardless, but my idle threat stands!

LucasArts and Bioware. One is imcompetent and puts zero effort in, the other has been anti-controller for all of their PC games. It's a cluster fuck of missed potential.

I really hope these are released with new patches so the games run flawlessly on modern day computers and in higher, wide screen resolutions. I can't wait to play KOTOR again.

If it has gamepad support id buy it, the game was so much more fun on the XBOX (yes despite it being a bit of a mess technically).

There's only one exception I know of: Jade Empire. I guess even they couldn't deny how much more sense controllers made for that game.

Perfect widescreen can be attained at this moment on PC for KOTOR 1 and IIRC it is possible to set up a controller in the control options.

I wouldn't call it perfect (cutscenes and menus are not in widescreen I believe), but definitely better than nothing.

What the fuck. These games came out eight years ago... the incompetence of Lucasarts is staggering. KOTOR I and II can be found for like... 2.50 each, so 20 bucks is ridiculously expensive I think, and the timing is really odd (and late. really fucking late.)

But KOTOR II is a modern masterpiece, so I'll probably just send Obsidian a check one of these days, bypass Lucasarts and all that.

They are doing this to see how much a sequel is in demand, now they realize that they should have released it from the start instead of what they really did.

all leading up to KotOR 3 of course

But...but...BioWare told me TOR was KoTOR 3,4,5,6,7 and 8?

BioWare and Lucasarts really screwed up with how they handled Revan and the Exile in TOR. Even if they made a proper KOTOR 3 I doubt I'd want to play it knowing how they made a joke of Revan and the Exile in TOR.

So how's KOTOR 2 on xbox? I imagine you can't get the "fan made" ending but other than that? Like I said in the OP, I really can't stand the PC control scheme so I'm wondering if I should play the second one on Xbox.

Play the Xbox version, then if you wanna know all about the cut content (of which, there is no "fan made" ending, just lots of restored content that was already on the disc but couldn't be finished/polished in time) read this LP, which is both hilarious, incredibly informative (both on the cut content and quite insightful into the themes and characters in the game itself), and a real labor of love. Having said that, only do so if the control scheme is that important to you - moreso than the cut content, the Xbox version is hugely unreliable and you're not going to have access to patches and the like to stabilize it should you lose a save game or two, and the emulation on the 360 makes a bug-ridden game even buggier.

Pick your poison, basically. Still one of the best games ever though.

I was actually talking about playing on the original Xbox but not 360 hehe but yeah I get you are saying. Maybe I'll give the pc control another try...hmmm

People hoping for fixes and remastering are hoping too much.

Both games run great after mod on Seven, but this is not what a publisher would do.

I still hope for Neverwinter Nights 2 digital release on gog. this game is very hard to find here.

I assume you're not considering Steam because of DRM/some other reason?

As for KOTOR 2, there are plenty of mods out there that re-integrate cut content, but the game badly needs a second balance pass too. You can beat the final boss in 2 seconds without even attempting to minmax your character build.

Kotor 2 is an absolutely fantastic deconstruction of the entire Star Wars universe, and in my opinion, the single greatest piece of fiction to be written in it. Fantastic, fantastic game. Avellone doesn't get enough credit for this one. I might post again in the morning and go further in-depth with just how smart this damn game is.

'2 of the greatest Star Wars games ever'

I think they mean one and a half.

For those of you who want restored content in KotOR 2, you might want to keep an eye on these guys: TSLRCM

There's a team working on a giant restoration mod. They've been at it for a while now and released a couple versions already. Version 1.8 is supposed to be the big release that will make the game feel complete. No word on when they'll be done though. I've been waiting well over a year for them to release 1.8 before finally getting to play KotOR 2. Before them, there was another group called Team Gizka that was working on a Restoration Mod that I was waiting on. They split up, went their own ways and never released all the fucking work they did. Hopefully, the same won't be the case with these TSLRCM guys.

I have australian edition of Kotor 2 - true story - was only available in one shop in Poland who imported those games directly from there :)

But if they release Kotor2 on steam I'd gladly double dip for it just to have it in my digital collection ready to play whenever i want.

Just spent an hour reading on Wookiepedia about all the story stuff they expanded in Old Republic. Is Old Republic actually worth a shit? I've heard that it's basically WoW in space, which is fine by me if it's done well.

I played the game with the mostly finished TSLRP. Not sure where that team fits in.

Already have the box of KOTOR2, but I won't double dip unless they fix the last part of the game. Inexcusable and atrocious release of an unfinished alpha version by fucking Lucasarts.

Poor Obsidian, kotor2 would have been to kotor1 what New Vegas is to Fallout 3.

Huge fucking bummer right there. I assume this has to do with Atari selling Cryptic and the Neverwinter rights to Perfect World Entertainment.

I'm hearing that Hasbro got the rights back. Hopefully, soon, Hasbro will make some deals to put all their Bioware/Black Isle/Obsidian D&D titles on Steam.

Already snagged NWN2 on Steam just for a digital copy and would probably buy NWN1 again if it were on sale on Steam.

I need KOTOR2 in my collection, but physical PC games? Ew. If only it was as available and easy to tweak as KOTOR1.

Will buy only if they actually complete KOTOR 2 with a proper ending and some filling out.

I liked it more than the first one so it really stung even more how it was so rushed.

Oh, Hasbro and not PWE? What a weird situation but we'll see.
