KOTOR Collection (1 + 2) coming out soon on PC

Getting the steam version of the first game running in widescreen isn't as simple as editing an ini or running an .exe. It'd be nice if there was a rerelease of 1 & 2 with real widescreen support, but I would be surprised if this bundle wasn't just untouched versions of KOTOR 1 & 2.

Just spent an hour reading on Wookiepedia about all the story stuff they expanded in Old Republic. Is Old Republic actually worth a shit? I've heard that it's basically WoW in space, which is fine by me if it's done well.

Yes it is WoW in space and no it's not done well. By the time I quit in March they were still missing a ridiculous amount of features that WoW has, and if you're going to shamelessly copy something you need to at least be equal to it in the feature count from day 1 (coughorigincough).

You may as well just youtube the individual class stories because once you go through and level 1 full character up the only difference in the others are the class quests, which is very low compared to normal grindy quests. You'll burn out pretty fast.

KOTOR 2: the Special Edition?

This. Unless they are doing something to KOTOR 2 I see no reason to buy this personally. I still have my Xbox copies of 1 and 2 on my shelf. However for those that have never played the series I'm glad this is coming out. Has this even been put up for sale on Xbox Games on Demand? I assume it plays better with the controller unless the PC version had it's own interface and wasn't a direct port.

I'll gladly buy again.

I've put another 200 hours into KotOR again after buying it on Steam. So that's at least 1,300 hours I've put into that game alone.

I doubt I'll put that kind of time in KotOR2. I didn't the first time around.

If this is real, then I hope they've at least fixed the games for modern PCs. So 16:10/16:9, maybe even Steamworks achievements, and any fixes for Windows Vista and up, if there are any problems.

I'd double dip on KOTOR 1 (have it on disc) and grab KOTOR 2 if I don't have to mess around with patches to get it all working as it should.

You need more games, dude.

If you care about story, sure give it a shot. You get a free month with the game which is enough time to run through one of the game stories and determine if you want to keep going and sub.

Lot of improvements have been made to the game and now (1.3 update just came out) they they consolidated players, raised server caps, more optimizations, and added in new features like group finder, the game has been alot better.

I use to think like that.

About mid point last gen was when that changed. I've found I can get an infinite number of hours out of just about any WRPG. As long as there are noticeable differences between character classes, and even minor changes in story I can keep coming back again and again and again.

KotOR II has been FIXED!

I can't post new topics and since no one has posted this yet, I'm bumping this thread.
For those of you wanting to experience KotOR II as originally intended (or close to), The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod 1.8 has finally been released.

Welcome.
Thank you for downloading and installing TSLRCM 1.8.
This mod's intention is to restore much of the cut content to The Sith Lords, that was lost to the main game due to a rush to release the game. This rush also left the game with a plethora of bugs (some of which also blocked out content, so not everything restored was really "cut", for example the quest 'Corrun Falt'), this mod should seriously decrease the buginess that plagued TSL.
Overall, our goal is to make the KOTOR2:TSL experience closest as possible for us (as modders can do) as Obsidian originally intended it to be...

Be sure to check our website for potential upgrades, patches and compatible mods for TSLRCM. Our site will always have the most recent version of TSLRCM, something we cannot sadly enough promise from other sources.
Also if you have issues, questions or feedback, please post it on the official forums, as otherwise it can be read much later, or not at all. After all, we can't monitor the entire internet.

Also an interview with a co-lead of the project, zbyl2: Community heroes: modders debug and restore cut content in Knights of the Old Republic II

Perfect timing with the re-release of the game in this bundle. If someone can re-post this as a new topic, I think that would be better in getting the word out. This post will just be ignored here.

Did they fix the ending of KotOR2? No? Then I'm not really interested. KotOR1 is nice and all, but I already have it for X-box and the DLC area isn't too huge a deal.
The fact is the ending was never broken to begin with. Loose threads, sure. The conversation before the end credits, however, is the "ending movie."

First one is still one of the greatest games ever developed, period. The sequel really didn't have the same magic or quality, and TORtanic is just a soulless husk of the remains of this great franchise.

For me the most soulless entry is the first game by far. It does nothing well. TOR, for example, does everything better than KotOR1. Everything. There isnt one aspect where the original game outshines the sequels.

lol, I feel like such a ghost. No one cares that KOTOR 2 Restored Content Mod is finished?! I've been waiting years for this.

I feel like I have to play the devil's advocate here: the KOTORs are not as good as they're often hailed to be. I think a lot of KOTOR1's *magic* comes from the fact that it brought the BioWare-style RPGs to a larger audience.. unfortunately it also came with a terrible ruleset, weak camera and movement, etc. in other words, today it feels like an unholy hybrid between their old party-based stuff and the Mass Effect action-y production, and just doesn't feel good to play.

KOTOR2 felt like its own thing, which was good, I dunno if Obsidian could have done a better job than BioWare at doing a prototypical Star Wars story, and even if they did it would have jusst felt "more of the same". That said, it didn't improve meaningfully on the original's gameplay and, at the time of release, was buggy as hell.

They're two good games, but no masterpieces.

I own the first one via steam but it's a goddamn buggy mess. Tons of glitches including not being able to move after every. single. combat.

Is this shit fixed in this release?

NOOOOOPE.
KOTOR1 might as well have been NWN in Space, right down to the lead heroine turning evil and you choosing her fate after fighting her in the final act. The twist was perfectly acceptable and stuff, but that's about it.

At least Obsidian tried to do something original with KOTOR2.

NOOOOOPE.
Care to point out what is better in KotOR 1?

Lets take the most basic element you do the most in the two games, the combat. Would you say that the combat in KotOR 1 is better than TORs? Combat in the first game is basically mash Flurry or Rapid Shot. Thats it. Theres nothing going on in KotORs combat. For a game where the gameplay is almost exclusively combat you couldnt design a worse system.

Combat. Gameplay. Story. Plot. Characters. Pacing. Inventory. Loot. Graphics. Even the god damned mini-games are done better in TOR. The only thing that is on par is the sound production. i think the only thing that KotOR 1 does better than the subsequent games is play on nostalgia of console gamers first foray into wrpg.

Just answered your own question there. KOTOR slays TOR in terms of story and characters. Even though combat may not totally be up to snuff by today's standards, KOTOR 1 delivered the total package. KOTOR 2 has no 3rd act and TOR, while maybe having better combat mechanics, just doesn't come close to immersing me into the world of Star Wars like KOTOR 1 did.

As another said its been too long. I play them both a couple times a year and other than the high res packages I am having a hard time even thinking about installing it. Its awesome of the mods though for sure.

Damn, never played KOTOR 1 or 2 and it's two games on a DVD-ROM. May get this for my birthday.

i disagree. The story in KotOR 1 is insultingly bad. The characters are across the board weak, especially the villain. Combat up to snuff? It was horrible then and horrible today. It is brain dead and has zero depth.

totally agree with this.

but I'm one of those who think that the only good episode of SW is Episode 5. So SW fans might not agree with us about KOTOR1 story.

So with both games being readily available on steam, why was this bundle pack released to begin with?

I know hopefuls think it hints at a HD collection for consoles or perhaps a 3rd game.
But i'm guessing they released it just for the hell of it?

KOTOR 2 isn't available on Steam, and they kind of suck in regards to modern PC support. If they fix those issues it would be worthwhile.

So, take this guys opinion into consideration if you all you want out of TOR is to level more than one class back to back and do nothing but that. He's right, you will burn out really fast. As you will in any MMO, ever.

If you are actually interested in, you know, playing the game beyond that, it has great story driven endgame raiding and has ranked warzones that are pretty fun if you like competitive gameplay.

If you really are only interested in MMO's for the level grinding, welp, fuck, sorry. You could utilize their legacy perks system to customize your leveling experience to mitigate the fatigue in grinding levels. You can obtain up to a 30% increase in XP for class quests, Warzones, Flashpoints, Space Combat, and exploration.

It is not WoW 2.0. It's not the next revolution in MMO's. It's a solid MMO and if you liked KotOR or Star Wars in general, you should give it a shot.

It has a free trial up to level 15. Keep an open mind, try not to go in as an ultra pessimistic, jaded ass WoW player, and you might actually enjoy yourself.

Back on topic: I cannot see them willing to do more with this than a direct port. Cash grab and nothing more.

KOTOR1 hits all the right buttons like visiting Tatooine, playing in Korriban, the last battle is epic, etc but it's nothing really to write home about. A few of the plotlines were good, like the origin of the sandpeople or the trial on the water planet.

KOTOR2 is like the opposite of that, in that it's much more of a character story than a predictable-Star Wars arc, plus you can tell they played with the themes a lot more than playing them straight like most Star Wars fiction probably does. Also Korriban in K2 scared the fuck out of me the first time I showed up to a proper haunted burial planet. Even just finding out what happened in Peragus was pretty good. Not the best starter planet but at least they tried.

Give me a HD collection for consoles. Thanks.
That would be nice.
I own both games already for PC so the Collection isn't really interesting for me unless they add something new, which most likely won't happen. But I would buy a HD console port nevertheless just for having the games on all my platforms :D

I would buy KOTOR again if it gets controller support.

The ending isnt broken. Its a mess cause they didnt have the time to finish it. And most of it will never be restored.
