KOTOR II AND REPUBLIC COMMANDO BOTH SET FOR FEB 2005

Activision dismisses early KOTOR II release while Republic slips

15:47 A few excited murmurs erupted today when the official Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 site changed the Xbox/PC game's expected release date from February 2005 to Winter, fuelling speculation that it may hit stores in time for Christmas.

However, it appears that such excitement may have been a tad premature, with Activision denying any plans for a 2004 release - hardly surprising considering that the 'Winter' period also encompasses February 2005. When we phoned the company direct, a spokesperson dismissed the reports as "pure speculation", saying that "as far as we're concerned, KOTOR II will still be releasing in February 2005."

However, definitely making a slight change in its schedule is the impressive-looking Star Wars: Republic Commando for PC and Xbox, which has slipped from Autumn to Winter according to the game's official website. In fact, as our Activision spokesperson promptly added, the first-person shooter is not down to launch until February 2005, alongside KOTOR II.

Sorry Star Wars fans, it looks like the wait is far from over.

This news story is for the UK releases of the game as Activision distributes Lucasarts' games over there.

I wasn't saying the dates were wrong, just that they may be different for the US as this news story applies to the UK releases. Lucasarts has said all along that KOTOR II is February.

Episode III comes out in May 2005 so maybe Lucasarts is hoping that the games get the movie rub saleswise, which makes sense.

Sounds good. Having both an Xbox and a Cube made this holiday season packed as it is. At least we have two good games to take us through the drought months.

Republic Commando delay makes sense. No need to be eclipsed by the atomic bomb ripple on the market that Halo 2 will cause. Wouldn't be surprised if they released them to conincide with Episode 3 to be honest.
