Krater - New ARPG from Fatshark (PC/Steam)

Really digging the art and theme for this one. Sent 'em an email about being an early tester. Going to be a great year for lootwhores!

Just expressed my interest via signing up to the forums, after realising I didn't do so back when this thread was created.

On a side note, I'm glad that some more teams are embracing the Minecraftesque "paid beta" concept. There's something interesting about getting into a game early and watching it expand and become refined over time.

Just got a test key, seems really nice so far especially considering it's pre-alpha code.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of NDA dealio is going on (if there is one at all) so I won't say too much.

Got mine, too. :) I've managed to get into two betas within as many weeks. Now, if only my good fortune would extend to CS:GO and Dota 2...

How did I miss this the first time around?
Would apply to test, but my internet connection would make multiplayer testing an issue. Unless they're good with testing on my own, I'll just keep an eye on this.

You only play in offline mode for now.

Ugh I'm not digging the pre-alpha at all. :( The graphics are unimpressive, the art design is boring, the writing is downright crap (it's supposed to be a placeholder though) and the combat doesn't work right without a pause option.

Pre -alpha not impressive? :-)

Those screens look great, I'm going to really check this out.

Actually the overall art is the only part I'm actually appreciating so far.

I haven't had much trouble with controlling the characters. I didn't think I would like the combat at first but it I'm used to it now, so I don't need a pause button.

I'm very conflicted about this beta.
There is much I *want* to like, but the game just doesn't click for me so far.
Many testers are praising how the game is "very quick, easy, completely manageable without any pause", but the fact is: that's the case cause the combat system is extremely oversimplified, dull, boring.
Every class has just TWO skills, both with cooldown, in a party of three characters, so there isn't virtually any tactical planning worthy of the name, it's just button spam.

Exactly how I see it. I have no idea what the target groupe of Krater is supposed to be. It's an utterly dumbed down reminiscence of classics from Troika, Black Isle and Bioware and the likes but it offers virtually nothing to appeal to that audience. I can't be bothered playing this any further at this rate.

I died on my first time playing it, haven't played since. But I do like the atmosphere/style it has going for it. I am going to give it a better shot once my backlog clears a bit.

Well, it releases in 12 hours now.

I could not resist and preordered the steam version just now. Will post some impressions after I have played it a bit.

I didn't know anything about this game but I played through Hamilton last week after picking it up during the Holiday sale for like $5. That was $5 wells spent. Except for one level near the very end (fuck that grid of rapidly changing floor pikes), I found it thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm tempted to just pick this up on launch because I liked Hamilton so much.

Love those graphics. Reminds me of the prerendered Final Fantasy days. I'm tired of the overly realistic look of games.

A friend linked me to the beta about 2 weeks ago, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Boy, this game took me by surprise! I really like it! I instantly pre-purchased it and I can't wait to play the game in a few hours!

Can someone sum up the main features besides the obvious ARPG stuff?

CORE MECHANICS
Extensive crafting (craft unique abilities, weapons and items)
Character persistence where both injuries and experience work in conjunction to evolve your team over time.
Simultaneously control a squad of 3 characters chosen from 4 different main classes with a multitude of specializations.
Prepare your team of Freediggers for the end-game and try to get as deep as you can into the main shaft, a dungeon crawler of massive proportions.
Singleplayer/multiplayer which blend seamless with each other. Use your progress from the single player campaign in coop missions and the other way around.

c&p from their homepage.

Gives me a sort of vague terraria vibe with the crafting and going underground deeper and deeper.

Hoping for a good dungeoncrawler.

i have no clue whether the actual gameplay for this one will hold up or not but the SETTING alone looks so awesome that i nearly wanna buy this just for that

Not digging the character design, but the rest looks great. Subscribed
