I personally don't have a problem with her being a gay icon, but I do think that it's become a barrier in attracting fans her in the states. She could have easily been marketed to a wider, more diverse demographic similar to Shakira during her resurgent Fever era. Easily. It's too bad. She really doesn't get the credit she's due because of this distinction. People are too quick to associate her act with camp, or a family friendly version of Lady Gaga.

I remember Howard Stern pointing this out after he attended one of her shows with his wife back in 2009, when she took her act to America for the first time. It would be nice if she tours the U.S. later this year, but it's not looking so good, which is ironic, because her current label is American -- Jay Z I believe runs this outfit, last I read. Can anyone clarify?

Because for some such rampant displays of sexual... prowess (?) in a music video at the expense of any well crafted music (in the case of the instrumental, tone, and definitely lyrics - sexercise, come on) makes it difficult to extend any credence toward the artist, but yeah forget that I was talking of her seniority - I don't mind being taken out of context. But yes, I find that particular display shameful - more so for the state of music as a whole rather than her individually.
