L.A Noire Trailer is UP!

I just think there are some companies out there who want Sony and Microsoft to fund their projects, while the project themselves sound cool on paper most of the money just goes to the CEO's and the crew to increase their lavish spending...

This guys asked Sony for more than $35 million dollars and his studio is based in Australia. When was the first trailer supposed to show up? The official site had been hinting at it since E3 2006? or maybe summer 2006. Its pretty obvious they had nothing substantial and now all we get is a CG trailer with real time assets. Same thing goes for Lair…$25 million dollar budget, “Can’t be done on 360” big hype no tangible results (:lol) I mean can you guys believe a small company like Epic made GoW for on $10 million dollars? Just compare Lair with GoW

And Lair has been in development for a while now...

And Gears of War has only been in development for 6 months.

It has just as much to do with there being very few films in the 40s and 50s that used color, period. I can't name a single notable, color noir. If you're going for the style of one, I think it would be worthwhile to do it in the right color palette. If you're game is called LA Noire, takes place in what appears to be the 40s, and is clearly going for a noir-y presentation, it would go a long way to making it work if it was b&w.

Too bad they want to sell some copies too.

And i know you are talking about 40s and 50s, but to make it noir and having it take place in the 40s and 50s, doesn't exactly mean that you have to make it noir like they did in 50s movies.

Chinatown for example -> noir

Okami uses a really nice and different look to it. Black and White wouldn't be so bad.

What's that cool movie that is in black and white?

i think their are things they could do to really bring the noir and pulp feel of the game, but retain color. like i said with flash bulbs and flashbacks or something.

This trailer, reminds me of the"Eight Days" trailer for ps3..that kinda generic CGI look.
Doesn't have my interest at all..
I'm interested in what the gameplay will entail though.

What does Chinatown have to do with noir?

The difference is that the Eight Days trailer is trying to highlight gameplay (stuff like gunfight using cars and cafe counter as cover, destructability of environments and objects, whether they can actually achieve that level is another story of course), the LA Noire trailer is more about setting the mood.

...

Chinatown IS noir.

Or if you prefer, Neo Noir.

But no one in their right mind likes to refer to something with "Neo" in front of it. Right guys?!

Shut the **** up. You are the reason we can't have good things.
I speak on behalf of all of the 13-year-olds who would most likely destroy their televisions in order to make their shiny new video game display in colour.

Because those little shits are just that stupid.

He's right though. It doesn't mean he won't support the product if it's B&W, but I think the gaming market might not be receptive to a purely B&W game (Note: not referring to the Black & White franchise of course).

Okami is going to BOMBA. Well, it probably DID bomba. Point proven.

Sin City?

Are you kidding? They could play it up as a gimmick. I highly doubt making a black and white video game would scare away potential purchasers. . .uh, as long as said purchasers know that the game is intended to be in black and white.

How do you know its box office poison? When did the last black and white game come out?

Hey I don't mind if it's black and white. I guess they can try to make a 30+ million dollar black and white game and see if it sells or not. I'm always interested in finding out how an experiment like that will turn out. It would be awesome if it does end up selling.

See, we're really giving the general video game audience more credit than they deserve here.

Maybe WE would be able to appreciate a title in B&W, but that hardly means Joe Sixpack or his kids will, too. It's easy to say, "F*ck them, who cares", but when you've got a game like L.A. Noire, in which the stakes are very, very high, it's just not worth the risk.

Besides, haven't we already seen time and time again that most gamers have absolutely no taste?

Good thing Sony dumped this....is it true they also dumped the second Factor 5 game?? They seem to making a lot of smart moves lately :O
They have NOT dumped F5 second game. It is still under development AND it has not been announced yet. So, what are you talking about?
good night ;-)

But don't a lot of people here like Okami? And didn't lots of people like Sin City?

Oh, okami was a critic's darling. The topic being discussed was sales though.

Sin City might have done well though.

I can definately see the similarities with the original "The Getaway" game that was designed by the Team Bondi guy. The cutscenes have the same look to them, using high quality in game assets and motion capture technology.

Agreed. As long as it doesnt feel like the Getaway, my interest remains.

what about warhawk, that was playable at E3! It has seamless ground based combat! I bet it didn't cost $25 million to make and it sure as hell looks a lot better than lair
lol no, it doesn't.

bring back tex murphy!!!

i think tha trailer looks promising. it has definitive the getaway fell in it and i am looking forward to the game.

Okami wasn't Black and white, it had parts...and sin City, sin city had names.

No one went to see sin city to see bruce willis. They went to see sin city because its sin city.

Black and white wouldnt kill this game.

I'm expecting LA Noire to have names aswell to be honest, it is under the Rockstar label after all! Someone like William H. Macy or Matt Dillon doing voicework would add to the atmosphere.

I personally loved the trailer. I really really dig the atmosphere, the lighting effects and the music just take me places. I was hoping for some gameplay though, but I'm not really worried. Playing detective would be really awesome :D

If that's realtime, which I think it is, than the game is shaping up (graphics-wise) pretty nicely.

i didn't think it was fantastic/ mgs2 at e3, but i quite like it.

for one, i'm glad i didn't see yet another gun fight, lock on - shoot, change target, shoot ... cars blow up, screen shake, run away.

like many, i'm drawn to the style and the atmosphere. i have no doubt there will be plenty of action sequences, but i'm more hoping the investigative element of the game will play the more prominent part (not "push circle to interrogate", please!) am i being nostalgic of all the old adventure games i played when i was younger eg, cinemaware stuff? or would people like to see a game that's not totally reliant on who's the quickest to the draw, or who's the one with the best combos?

i'd like to sit back and play a game that has good puzzles. i want l.a. noire to give me the sense of achievement i get when i solve a case in pheonix wright and have a good laugh (not cringe) at silly dialogue or situations the characters get into. the trailer might not have shown any of this but that's what i'm hoping the game will be - whether or not this is the goal of team bondi, only they will know. based on the trailer, at least we can kinda hope it's not another massacre.

Nothing in the trailer really piqued my interest. For game concept that's supposed to be heavily story-driven, the trailer didn't really provide any interesting plot hints or really highlight any character work. The focus on the chase seems a bad choice since it's such a pedestrian action scene by either movie or game standards. And without knowing how much of that is truly based on in-game assets, it's hard to even get excited about the technology at work here.

Graphics and atmosphere are really great but I'm still worried about the gameplay.Maybe it's an other Getaway and this is why Sony left the project. No gameplay in the trailer doesn't help either.

It was okay. If those were the game's visuals in motion, they did a great but apparently understated job of it. The problem is that there's nothing to go on for gameplay...and that's why it's ultimately a lame trailer and doesn't really, to me, spark any interest after viewing it.

Well thats a disapointment. I was expecting a max payne style thing..WHERE ARE MY DRAWN OUT METAPHORS!
