Seeing GAGAF reunited brings a tear to my eye. :*)

My hands are currently tender like a twink's post-coital gluteous maximus from kinetically stanning for this masterpiece.

I'd hardly call it a masterpiece - I think the production is seriously boring. It sounds just like that 'Bounce' track with Kelis, same beep boop sound that's been done a billion times the last few months. I'm surprised she didn't pull something a bit more original for her opening single. But I'll agree that it is more refreshing than yet another inspirational Katy Perry anthem.

....maybe I got a bit carried away when I typed masterpiece, lol. But yeah, my other points still stand.

But where is JackEtc? Our premiere Gagaffer :(

I totally understand where you're coming from here, but I've always thought that Gaga's lead singles (bar Bad Romance) have never been the strongest songs on their corresponding albums. But maybe I'm just being an apologist.
I'm not into radio pop at all or even Gaga, but I remember a point where I was actually impressed by how I actually...kind of liked Bad Romance.

Then it was played 5 billion times and I hated it to death.

It would be neat to have that feeling again. Having just listened to Applause, I feel like it's pretty much a repeat of Born This Way and that, yeah it's...okay.

But just being "okay" is bad, IMO. For someone this high profile, it could serve as a misstep.

As for "lacking mainstream appeal," believe me when I say THAT'S A GOOD THING since the mainstream really doesn't know what's actually good. That said, this song doesn't really fit the bill of a deep cut, a sleeper hit, or a mainstream super hit. It falls somewhere between all these, from what my ears tell me.

There are parts that have the "Gaga touch" I guess, but overall it does seem kind of like any generic dance pop song. I already forget most of it and I JUST listened to it. Lacking something indeed. But, music isn't just a "one and done" deal and you can tell the fans know what a "grower" is, so maybe the song will grow with people.

Yeah, I guess. I just look at the music that's doing really, really well and it's dramatically different to what this song is.

The climate now is mid-tempo balladry, with the odd EDM song peppered throughout. That's what I meant but mainstream appeal.

I agree with your latter point though. I'm just glad that some people are discussing it logically rather than dismissing it because it's a pop song from a kooky pop star.

I really like all three of her previous albums. However, this is a pretty weak offering. The production is just not there for me. I'm sure the actual album will be much better.

bad romance is good but not great. this new one is an anthem for sure. what's your guys's favorite lady gaga song of all time?

I couldn't pick between Dance In The Dark, Monster, Bad Romance, Scheisse, Heavy Metal Lover or Bloody Mary.

Sis... I mean the song slayed live but still...

Yeah my love for the song wouldn't be there if I didn't see it live. The light, that opening bass line, the horse ;_;

The production is a mix of Madonna's Girl Gone Wild and Ashlee Simpson's 80s-inspired Outta My Head.

That is to say: completely uninspired.

The song's not offensive to the ears. But there's nothing at all daring about this track. Slapping Gaga's vocals over 80s synths doesn't make this track any less blasé than Roar, especially since 80s synths and themes are done to death in Pop as it is.

1) The Edge of Glory
2) Alejandro
3) Hair
4) Bloody Mary
5) Speechless

Where is HML or Scheisse?

I guess it's testament to God's way that there are so many varying opinions of what tracks are her best, at least. The #DIVERSITY.

This song is alright. Its catchy and there's nothing offensive melodicaly or lyrically. It also will probably be the first Gaga track in a long time to be played in the club. The only major problem I have with this song is even the worst Gaga songs have a catchy sing a long chorus. Applause doesn't. Its a fun song to dance to but you can't understand what she's saying during the chorus which is a risk for radio viability.

I think this song lends itself well to some good performances and music videos. I think if you're looking for a song more in the vein of Bad Romance you should listen to Aura/Burqa which is a leaked demo of one of her songs for ARTPOP. I like it a lot more than Applause and its one of, if not the, best written choruses she has written.

Very interesting timing on the release. Maybe leaks, maybe not wanting Katy to get to much steam going with Roar.

Don't like Gaga, but she has a hell of a marketing team.

Is it me or does that video make the second verse make a hell of a lot more sense?

It's about critics hating ("some people just like to read") the 80's sound (nostalgia's just for geeks) of BTW.

Well it's quite obviously meant to be about all the backlash and hating she received during her Born This Way promotional era. So I guess this makes sense as a "return" song.

It's okay. The chorus is really good, but the rest sounds a bit boring (dated? generic?). It's clearly really safe as a pop song. At least the song is growing on me.

She should have released Aura instead.

Would love to hear this song on the dance floor.

Anywhere else?

Ehhhh.

Edit: Lol

Song is pretty great. I was suprised I liked it as much as I did.

Perry's single was really boring and safe.

From what I remember about Born This Way (the album), the best songs were not the singles. But that's me and my weird taste.

I thought the best songs were easily the singles

Probably why I was so disappointed with the album

Edit: $15 for iTunes album? Yikes
