Lady Gaga APPLAUSE Lead single from ARTPOP [OUT NOW. QUEEN HAS RETURNED]

Is 'You And I' considered country style? That's one of the few Gaga songs I can get behind.

I'd group it more with classic rock than country, but it definitely has country appeal I suppose.

It's also her best written song. I really love You and I.

So I bought it and have listened to it about 6 times in a row now. God damn I am loving it ._.

Getting Mega Drive teas from the intro/backing track.

Gaga is performing at the iTunes Festival on September 1st.

She'll be premiering a whole hour of new music, so there'll be even more stuff from the album there.

Trying to decide which is better between Applause and Roar, is like deciding which turd smells less like shit. Both are massively disappointing compared to both of these ladies' previous work, especially considering that they are headlining new albums.

Also, title edit is some real stanning shit. Good job Y2Kev.

Yep. Both songs are pretty crap. After a day of listening I can't stand either song enough to play them again, or even spend the $1.29 on them in iTunes. Just pretty awful songs.

Although I give credit to Katy for crafting the better song for iTunes. Her song will be MUCH bigger than Applause when all is said and done.

Yes, we should credit Katy for pussying out from taking a risk with new music by releasing the same song we've been listening to since 2010. I've called this song "perfect", and it is, but it's perfect because it combines every pop music trope we've seen for the last few years into one shiny package. The problem is that the ingredients are all the same.

Absolutely nothing about Applause makes me think "oh Gaga just wants another #1." The wacky verses and busy chorus pretty much speak to that I think.

The song is ok. I won't judge too harshly as I'm sure the full album will be great. When BTW released as a single I wasn't too keen on it, my favorite tracks from BTW ended up being Bloody Mary and Electric Chapel.

Just gotta wait till November to see if it the entire album holds up.

Katy Perry still being mentioned in this thread. Why? Gaga and Perry are so different, with the two singles in question having even less in common, there's absolutely no sense in the comparison.

Anywho, I bought both singles this morning and I'm enjoying them immensely for different reasons.

I agrih, though it's dislike instead of enjoyment in my case.

I hope we'll get a Die Young/Diamonds situation where both songs slay the charts, so everyone gets to be happy :P

Also there's a Cher/Gaga collab that leaked and it's like the cheesiest song ever.

Man, that weird dracula voice she uses in the verses is kind of distracting for me.

It's been almost 24 hours, and Lady Gaga's single still has managed to go #1 on iTunes OR dethrone Roar.

For context: when Born This Way was released it went #1 in multiple countries in less than an hour.

A mod might want to edit the thread title to reflect the thrashing Katy is serving Gaga right now.

Born This Way wasn't released a day after a major release. If Gaga released the song as planned it would have went to #1 with no problem.

She didn't though and she's paying the price.

Right, we had a POP EMERGENCY for crying out loud. The video comes out Monday, can't wait. This is only the start of the ARTPOP era.

Born This Way came after Gaga's most successful era. She was crazy popular back then, she was everywhere before the release and everybody was checking for her. Then BTW happened and she went on a nearly complete media blackout. And she chose to launch against a much much stronger Katy who released some of the most perfectly crafted radio song ever.

Of course she was going to struggle... Doesn't mean she's flopping though, I'll wait for next week to make a conclusion.

As someone who has no clue about any of this pop stuff, Applause is way catchier and more interesting to me than the Roar track. Roar sounds like something out of a CW11 show, at least Applause makes you want to move, I like the chorus and bridge. Also not sure if anyone mentioned it but she sounds like she's doing a David Bowie impression in the beginning verse.

I really like it
The chorus is catchy - 'put your hands up make 'em touch' is the strongest part, weakest part is the opening verse, she sounds all over the place there

Seems like a pretty fun single instead of something like BTW which was really preachy.
It slays 'Roar' tbh.

Would it have gone to number one a week after it leaked though?

Do leaks really affect sales that much tbh? Outside of killing the "suprise" hype, I honestly doubt people who check for leaks represent much of the buying public. Most of them probably are fans and were going to buy the song anyway.

Yes it has been brought up. See, this man knows what he's talking about!

Listened to both Roar and Applause for some reason. I found Applause to be much more enjoyable. Roar just sounds like lazy effort from Katy. Also has a minor resemblance to "Brave" by Sara Bareilles.

Blah, such blah stuff. The chorus is actually pretty decent, but everything else is just...really meh. At least it's not generic-awful like Katy's latest.

Gaga's voice is just not made for EDM, which is weird because Scheisse really gave me hope that she could.

I also hope to god that her awful track of her talking over Zedd's Stache track isn't actually on the album. That was terrible.

When you buy Roar you basically get the entire album for the price of 1. People know a good deal when they see it.

I love how the opinions in this thread contrast so much. One person will say Roar doesn't hold a candle to Applause, and the next person will say the exact opposite. And, from what I can tell it's not just the stans doing this, either.

Leads me to believe that neither song is very good and people are only siding with their preferred performer.

Some folks seem to enjoy music as nothing more than a pissing contest, I guess.

yikes katy is destroying lady gaga right now on itunes
Gross. Roar is pretty awful. Now I will say, no album is going to top The Fame. Holy cripes is that thing amazing from top to bottom. Plus it just all came out of nowhere. I am interested to say the least in Lady Gaga's new work.
