I'm sure everyone's already said this but....

Animations need work, battle system looks like it has potential.

Awesome visually.
Fivehigh.

Definitely has promise, while I liked the humming at the end, something tells me it may end up being the contender for worst JRPG scene since Tidus+Yuna laughing.

Could it be that cavia was responsible for the graphics-engine?
I mean they are part of the whole AQ Interactive family wich were developing the Mistwalker games.

It's just because the quality of the graphics reminds me of Darkside Chronicles.

Holy shit just saw the trailer. So glad this is an action RPG and it looks really nice.

Why wasn't this at E3 (and announced for America)? It would have made a huge splash.

If this would've been showed at e3, Nintendo's conference would've been on par with Konami's.

Prolly cause it's not coming out this year. The game should come out for Japan in the fall or winter

have the japanese ever made an rpg that isnt anime-ish?

Depends on how you define "anime-ish" but Demon's Souls, Dark Half, a number of obscure older Falcom games would qualify - they're much more influenced by american-style fantasy art than anime.

Wow, I love the battle system in that video. Really unique looking battle system (is this the first time an RPG has had a cover system?) for an RPG.

The Mass Effect games... and Valkyria Chronicles (if you consider it RPG, I consider it more SRPG)

I thought that looked pretty damn awesome. Footage looked rough/early, but the gameplay looked very promising.

I'd written off The Gooch, but I'll have to keep an eye on this one.

really hope so

darkside chronicle had stunning moments.. the dam scene of operation javier was amazingly done

Wow that looks really awesome. I'm very interested in this title now.

Combatwise it looks to me like a JRPG approach to what Mass Effect 1 did, which is to have an action game layer on top of a RPG system and with the ability to stop time in order to cast certain spells.

In addition to the combat system what really interests me is the town section, which looks like a really full featured town, which we haven’t really seen since FF12. Most games now seem to veer away from that, explaining that it’s too difficult and expensive.

Speevy quit being a dick, man. You used to be cool. Nobody is "port begging" or whatever you are trying to imply.

Well I'm still not sure why having any game on the Wii is a waste. It is the best selling console this generation, afterall.

Stick to what the system's strengths are.

You mean...games? I'm not sure what you're saying here. Some gameplay mechanics don't work well on the Wii? Any gameplay mechanic, if properly implemented, serves to strengthen the game in which it features.

I'm just a guy sharing an opinion. Can't I do that?

Sure, make your points clearer next time instead of calling an entire game a "waste" because of the console it's on. They can make great games on cell phones. It doesn't mean I have to buy them, and I don't begrudge anyone their right to do so.

Your argument is the very definition of a slippery slope. If one game doesn't belong on a certain console, why make anything for it? Why make No More Heroes for the Xbox 360 when that game's defining attribute was the Wiimote implementation?

I don't get why I have to be the bad guy here when there are at least a dozen posts calling you out for the very same thing. Bad games are the only "wastes". Platforms provide only the means of playing something, and the barriers for developing it. Since the Wii seems to provide a fine way to enjoy this JRPG which is well underway in its development, I'm willing to give it a shot. Aren't you?

I enjoyed Lost Odyssey so I still have faith this could be a great game, the battle system looks different enough to make it fresh / fun and I like the character design & setting.

I feel like I've gone to Andriasang every day looking for updates... that was rewarded this afternoon. Trailer really looked great and I can't wait to get my grubby little mitts on this game.

It looks sooo good, so couldn't Sakaguchi put this kind of effort in Blue Dragon or Lost Oddyssey? Or do the xbox peasants only like old school rpg's according Sakaguchi?

Lost Odyssey didn't have effort? lol ok.

It was good, but next to the short stories, it was just another RPG. With nothing interesting going for it. I mean lack of effort in the sense it trying to make something memorable.

I looks pretty good. Like others have mentioned, I am not really too crazy about the animation. Seems stiff and floaty at times. Looks like it is going to be fun though.

I like seeing the village/city and all the people walking through it. Makes it feel alive.

Gave in and watched it..thought it looked very nice.

You're beating a dead horse, Speevy. Read my other posts from yesterday. People have initial opinions about something, other people share similar or rival opinions, those opinions can sway or strengthen each other's opinions. I'm not saying that you don't know, but that's how a normal conversation goes. I don't just talk, I listen as well.

My original thoughts were that if they are trying to be Assassin's Creed, why not just do it on 360 or PS3. Others mentioned that they are not so much trying to be Assassin's Creed as much as they are simply using some of it's tricks in order to strengthen immersion and presentation. Maybe the goal was not to have a bustling city as I originally thought, but the bump into the crowd animation is still good to have even if there are only three people on screen. It's just more realistic. That made sense to me. My original opinion was swayed. I never hated the game or the system it's on. Sorry for the waste comment, but my original thought was that they were trying to do something that the system couldn't handle.

I've said it a few times now, even in my original post that the game looks cool and I'm interested. I won't post any more about this. Let's keep it on the game.

All five of them?

Come on, there are way more people than that. The part with the guy running through the town had quite a few people walking around and such. You guys want 50 or 60 people walking around in town? That would be a pain in the ass to navigate through.

Oh, I'm sorry 8. You can't really call that alive though. All the people didn't slow me down in Yakuza.

So is all this sudden Gooch & Co. love based on the sad state of the JRPG genre this generation finally lowering expectations back to realistic proportions, or is this all just a transparent side-effect of the platform switch?

The Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey threads were all filled to the brim with ten kinds of hate and vile back in the day - the kind of which I'm really not witnessing with this game.

I suppose FFXIII sucking wind, instead of inspiring unrealistic CG trailer-based damnation for competition, is partially responsible for boosting everything in it's wake, but I'm still finding the sudden unadulterated affection for Mistwalker a bit confusing after spending so much time arguing for their favor just a few short years ago.........

Eh, JRPG's have found their home on handhelds, console gaming for them is just trying to relive their glorious past among high tech devices.

The Last Story should be awesome.

I still loved FFXIII for what it was, so I'm not one of these weepy nostalgia junkies...

although I won't deny the glory of The Almighty Gooch's reign as project manager for Square back in '98-2000 :D

This is the Gooch we're talking about. He will ALWAYS get one more chance. Unfortunately, that faith cannot offset the crappy quality of the companies Mistwalker collaborates with.

It's really too bad that Sakaguchi isn't in charge of an actual development company. I think that's one of the things holding his games back from greatness these days.
