Lastgen Black Ops 3 Screenshots leaked

Am I alone in loving these last-gen ports? I think they're so fascinating. A terrible deal for the consumer and potentially damaging to the brand, sure, but fascinating nonetheless.

Last generation, we saw the same thing with stuff like CoD World at War and Tomb Raider Underworld on PS2. Imagine that, a Tomb Raider game released on PlayStation 2 in 2008.

$49.99

good grief!

still better than Fallout 4

And it's not running at 60fps? Why? This seems like the sole reason being the devs were lazy. Not a good thing when you have people copping out $50 for the product still.

You're definitely not alone, I too find it interesting. For better or for worse, it's still piece of console gaming history.

No you're not. I find them interesting to investigate because the cutbacks and downgrades can be hilarious.

I find it fascinating, though as a player, I of course prefer to get separate last gen games. Those can be great in some cases. I also think it's a bit unfair to compare those ports directly to the last games that were made in the last gen by the main developers. The small studios porting now have way less money and time to do so and have to work off too high quality graphics. It's unfair to demand the same quality from them as from the top team at the end of last gen. From a player's perspective this is understandable but I don't like the vitriol against the developers, because I'm sure they often do great work within the limits of the previous gen. If Wii U just was as successful as Wii was, we'd certainly still be getting good downports and distinct last gen versions for years :(.

The dynamic behind the development seems to get so different when downporting from more advanced hardware. It's like most devs just flat out stop trying.

It's sad but also a bit interesting. It happened on such a large scale with Wii ports in the previous generation that they actually damaged the public reputation of the hardware and made it appear significantly less powerful than it really was. Some games were ported over by a miniscule team using macgyvered PS2 devkits.

Her eis a better recording of the PS3 version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AVOq38ZSA8

Lots of aliasing, bad shadows, flat lighting and it looks very soft. I expect the resolution to be quite low.

I have a morbid fascination with hem as well.

sigh ... at this point they should just as well not put out these. Although the moneygrab angle is clearly obvious.

This is just going to end up muddying our memories of what last gen games actually looked like when we use shit like this as reference. Let's not forget games like Halo 4 and Killzone 3 are also FPS's that came out on the same last gen.

Right there with you.

I actually don't want cross-gen to die just yet because they're just so interesting.

Persona 5's coming out in Summer 2016 and it'll also be on PS3. That's 9 and a half years after the PS3's launch. So that's something :p

I seriously don't understand why anyone would buy this. If they don't have a next gen console yet, save the $50 and put that towards one. That's already like 1/6th of the way to an XB1.

I know last gen still has a large user base but for the advancement of games they really need to leave behind these systems with so little memory and power. They had their place for a long time but if we truly want a new experience from these franchises they are going to have to stop designing with old consoles in mind. The game looks and runs great on PC and PS4 (During the Multiplayer test) so at least they've nailed down optimization on current gen systems unlike the PC version of Ghosts and the like.

Looks like the Wii version of COD 4.

I'm playing through Oblivion on PS3 (which hasn't aged well) and those screenshots still stand out to me as a bad looking game.

I just find the human condition to be so interesting to observe. We play the newest games and are sometimes floored by the graphics. But years later this same game won't graphically resonate as well as it once did.

I mean, I know that at one point I thought Super Mario 64 looked AMAZING, but I don't know what that feels like anymore. I can look at it in retrospect, but I can't replicate the same feelings.

Ignorance really is bliss.

The whole day one patch is believable. I mean, it's almost a standard nowadays unfortunately. So yeah, it does look funky in those shots, but considering it looks worse than Black Ops II did on previous gen I'm sure it'll be patched.

I get fascinated by the DS or java phone versions of games. You should check out the interrogation scenes in BO1 DS.
